well said dee.reading some of the other posts i dont know what people are talking about ie.i like a hard dog but he must have sence :icon_eek:ffs your dog is either hard or he is nt. IMO a hard dog is the dog that goes in and will not come away no matter what he would rather die than leave what he is at.some people have dogs that go and take hold for the duration of a dig but without getting knocked up to badly and then one day they meet the right opponent and when they start getting some punishment they either come away or with a bit of luck they start boxing clever.to me they are not hard do
-
Give me a mixer anyday that will turn up the pressure when needed, especially in roomy earths or with educated game. A hard dog always has its place but it must have sense, these dogs might not see as much as others but have to be admired for the way they can bring a dig to an early conclusion when other dogs have failed to

thinking of getting out of the poaching game
CorkyJohn replied to coney clucky's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Easier ways to get rabbits than looking for short enough fields in July with dogs. If you've been doing this 20yrs you'd know Hexham is now one of the worst places to lamp as the coppers are clued up now & will try & nab you. Blowing 2k on shite dogs is ridiculous, if you had've taken the time to run a couple of well bred pups on they could've been shaping up into handy animals & unless you travel I doubt your dogs see anything near the numbers that the lads down south see. I'd say wrap in mate so its one less lamper in the north east -
I went out with a lad that had a bullx that was the same around the holes when a terrier was to ground. He went for a couple of dogs but what was worse was the wanker who owned him kept chuckling whereas I would've tried to sort him out immediately & had that not have worked......

How do you work that one out? Unless the dog can't get on & is trying to get to its quarry another way. Please explain as I'm curious as to your comment -

thats some cracking ground in the last pic

Nice pup, similar stamp to my old dog from M Thomas lines
-
I'd go for a Border if thats all you require, even stuff not bred from digging lines make sensible, intelligent & easy to train dogs ......... I'd still go for decent lines if available to you

Red fells or red lakelands
CorkyJohn replied to terriermaniac's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Keep your own line of reds going? Again, colour means nothing so why get hung up on it? If your dogs work well stick to breeding what you have, at least you know what they're about. No disrespect to Clachan but I'd avoid any recommendations by K9delboy judging by the dogs/standards he keeps & his preference for looks in working terriers rather than working ability -
Too wide for what? It just gets worse & worse

I can't believe folks will pay silly money for timber setups like the one above. The timber can be bought a lot cheaper & I'm no joiner but they aint hard to knock up. When its time to replace my kennels I'll defo pay the money & buy galvanised runs.

The breed is in safe hands lads

Aye thats why I have only seen one terrier I'd class as decent in hunt service. Would you breed from a dog of that calibre/standards? -

I respect you for being honest Del but what do you expect? I'm not having a go at you but some of your ideas/actions , IMO, is exactly the reason why theres so much shit about these days. I just think a bloke with 30yrs experience would have seen the light by now. I'm still interested to hear how much work the dog you have advertised for stud has done as he looks unmarked to me for a 7yr old dog unless he is the same standard as your 8yr old bitch. If folk were honest when selling pups & stated they were bred for looks then thats fair enough -
Lovely Pup Corky John, did you breed him yourself? No mate bought him in, he was of Mal Thomas stuff. Very handy but strong little dog, was a bit too hard for his own good but done well. Died not too long ago, wish I had another like him mate

Wouldave got me into trouble buddy. He hated cats. I was given him because of his worrying and worked him a fair few times but he was far too hard for me. Guys on here that know me know that i keep Russells and most of mine are bayers, I have no place in my kennels for nutcases, I want them all to get along and do what they are bred for not to have them in sick bay everytime they go out. I have Megan, my 8 year old bitch whom i have dug 28 foxes with and she has been nipped twice. During all these digs and before anyone starts, Most times i dropped one hole as she sits a foot away screaming h -

Thats what I thought Del, looked through the rules & it says nowt anywhere on this section about stating a price therefore I'm doing nothing wrong

Take a tic tac and stop talking shit....... ye ye brill mate well done round of a plause :/ most of you have got bull crosses for nothing but a f****n image you dont care who its came from and the majority is staff not pit, i surpose the reason you dont care who its came from is proberly because there shit hot wether they came from a top breeder or a crufts breeder?? The bullshit you've just spouted makes you appear to be an anti/copper/rspca that has just blown their cover........ or a complete f*****g retard who has had whippet lurchers 5 mins
-
FFS its only June, let the dog enjoy being a pup then try her once the cover starts dying off & the season starts. Is this your first terrier, I take it because you've let her watch an experienced dog you've either bought in or it belongs to someone else. If it belongs to a friend they obviously don't have a clue either otherwise they'd have told you to stop being so impatient

Suppose it just shows how backward some people were with their training ideas
