  1. Mate, without trying to sound disrespectful to yourself you really need to do quite a bit of research before you even contemplate going out and working ferrets, I understand that you are new to the forum and looking at your username you could quite possibly be young??? What I suggest is asking someone who is local to yourself to be your mentor until you learn at least the basics of working ferrtes, it's not as easy as people think and the myth of going out and chucking a ferret down is sadly a urban myth. there's lots of things to consider before going ferreting, such as; are your ferr
  2. Bit of a understatement mate, most places it's dangerous to even walk over the sets as they are like quicksand
  3. That's awesome, did it get stuck in the net? Imagine digging down to a kill and pulling out a pheasant
  4. Can't remember mate, not something I thought of at the time
  5. maybe the bunnies like a good toot, wanna show me where you found these mate?
  6. Well the wierdest thing me and Col have ever found was a frozen chicken, not just any frozen chicken, this was still in it's plastic wrapping fresh from the supermarket, this was found down a hole in the middle of a quite large pine tree forest, random or what????
  7. I'm nowhere near you mate but do you have your own permission? might just help if people were to know.
  8. She's 6 months old, she's got no experience, she might be getting a little bit scared or excited when working warrens, give her a chance, don't make any sharp sudden movements when she is exiting the hole, don't be scared to pick her up just take it nice and steady and give her a nice little stroke and talk to her when you do pick her up, she will sonn learn what hunting is all about but be patient and give her time
  9. You're in for a EXTREME shock next time fella, we're going reet up to the top of that woodland to see what's about, no MESSING and I'm not carrying the rabbits again, will just take the DRAGGING FERRETS and they can get them back to the van themselves You are a good digger though, i'm going to take my bucket and spade the next time to build sandcastles
  10. HAHAHA, think we have all been there mate, I used to do a lot of ferreting in amongst brambles and nettles while being cut to ribbons and stung do death, however I used to love the feeling when I got home and jumped in a nice hot bath, ground burrows, also have their disadvantages as they can quite often be deep whereas hedges tend to be quite shallow and from experience bunnies in hedges bolt a lot harder and easier, I'll stick to ny ground sets for the time being though
  11. Think we could get a load with the shotgun mate but to be honest my days of bolting bunnies to guns have long gone, much prefer to do what we can in the winter with ferrets and nets then have a good go with the air rifle in the summer and early autumn. Did you have a good day at work?
  12. MK3 all the way marra, in my opinion the only people who say the mk1 is better than the mk3 dont know how to use it correctly
  13. Decided on another day out today with Andy up on the permissions as no messers are allowed, I took my 2 ferrets, a black eyed white Jill called SKY and a 7 year old polecat Jill called sandy, Andy took 2 of his jells and a big hob, we decided last night that no "Dragging ferrets" would be required and if there was any kills underground they would be dug to ( a decision that Andy would regret later ) Left my house just after 7am and up to the permissions for about 0820 to be greeted with wind and rain, This is new permission and there's a lot of it so don't really know where to start and
  14. Bit of a Messer and a jack b*****d :)

  15. Rumour is the mystery man doesn't have hands, instead he has a spade and a shovel :)

  16. Unlucky mate, keep at them pretty sure the bunnies will follow, how many ferrets are you putting down the sets at a time? Touch wood, never blanked when i've been ferreting
  17. God you must be easily pleased How did you get on today? Waiting on a phone call from Andy to see if we are out tomorrow
  18. very good call, plenty on unchartered woodland on our place Get in there then tomorow, and get it posted Nah, can't be arsed and I really need a sleep in past 0600 hahaha Really need to get up there when we have had a few good frosts, the bunnies up there are totally massive and full of fat so they are still sitting outside most of the time, some really cold weather should but them underground, saying that we thought the same last year and they were sitting on top of 2 foot of snow chewing on whatever greenery they could find haha
  19. very good call, plenty on unchartered woodland on our place
