  1. border collie/greyxwhip/grey X beardie/greyxwhip beddie
  2. anyone tell me what sort of time I need to get there to entry me lurcher in the racing? 11 seems the best guess so far.
  3. anyone know what the timings are for the lurcher racing at Thame?
  4. 3/8 grey, 1/4 whippet, 1/8 beardie, 1/8 border, 1/8 bedlington Not done anything yet due to hip problems (mine not the dogs!!)
  5. Vet bed was so comfy and warm, I kicked the dog off it and slept on it myself when camping!!
  6. Much as I dislike the police, I cant help thinking/hoping that as with all these things (smoking, eating etc) the charges are usually bought when the driver is not concentrating and driving like a cock or behaves like a twat when pulled or in this case he's yanked the chain of the police a few times before and they are looking to do him for whatever they can. However the vast majority of my dealings with coppers leads me to believe most are just tossers.
  7. Its not though because their are different numbers of chromosomes in the egg or the sperm.
  8. Not the same genes, they are different species and produce sterile offspring, this is because they have different numbers of chromosomes (strands of dna that carry thousands of genes)
  9. you dont, as the female could carry the gene, which was my point I think. good example
  10. What complicates matters is that females will produces X and Y chromosome eggs and so can produce either sex offspring and males have only X chromosomes in sperm. So females should have all the available male and female gene traits but it is the egg which decides if the offspring is male or female. I am no genetics expert but I would fail to see how it could matter. So some double recessive traits can be past from females to males, but still need the recessive trait from the male to be expresssed. Or to summarise females have male and female genes, males just have the male ones, but could hav
  11. Indeed some chromosomes control sex in humans the 23rd pair is XY in males and XX in females. Its possible that a trait could be sex linked, like colour blindness in humans. I'd be very suprised if any trait that are benefical to hunting dogs are single gene controlled or sex linked. Happy to be proven otherwise though. It should also be noted that a collie and a greyhound will have 99.9% of the same DNA which is why they produce viable offspring whereas a horse and donkey have different numbers of chromosomes so that would make a huge difference
  12. Just to the go who said dont put the crate near the bed as you get seperation anxiety, IME your talking rubbish. My pup didnt settle well for first week, finally although I felt like a soft twat I slept on the sofa bed, with her in the crate. She was quiet straight away, two nights of that and I was upstairs in my bed agin with her downstairs. A few weeks later and she was outside at night in her kennel. To say that this leads to that with puppies is crap, you have to take each dog as it comes and be prepared to try different things with some.
  13. it depends on how people train there pets. No reason a well trained dog couldnt be both. If by pet however you meen a poorly trained dog that just runsa abouts parks a couple of times a week barking at everything then it wouldnt work. I suppose it also depends on the idea of "work" if the work is just a thing you do cause you want to as opossed to needed to feed the family, you might have different ideas too
  14. I couldnt afford kingspan, but lined my kennel with 2 inch thick polysteryne sheets with some more wood inside. That said dog is in the house the last week.
  15. my grey/whippet/beddy/collie will growl at people in the dark but then comes and hides behind my legs so I dont thinks its being protective
  16. I only caught the last bit of countryfile I may watch the rest later if I fancy making my blood boil, but what struck me about the useless plod is that they didnt even think about trespass or damage caused by driving about the fields. But it was so one sided and surely should have shown some responsible lurchermen.
  17. Its widely accepted that you can breed dogs of a placcid nature so I dont understand why some people dont accept that you can get dogs born aggressive. A good owner can override most but a huge number of owners are fuckwits.
  18. Kea has a dash of border collie and a dash of bearded collie rest is whippet/grey with a side order of bedlington. 7 months in pic, 10 months now, couldnt catch a cold.
  19. was looking for a dog that would end up bulky when i was younger until a good lurcher man asked me how many body builders i had seen win the london marathon!!!!. yes but there not uselly run in compaison to a marathon runner more a series of sprints and all the best sprinters are very heavily muscled. Sprinters cant run twice though
  20. I crated mine in the end and slept downstairs on the sofa bed with her in the room, felt like a twat but after 2 or 3 nights she was sleeping in the crate fine and after a month or so she decided the kennel was better than the crate and on her last piss at night she went in the kennel and refused to come out so she has been there ever since. For a while she wanted to come in at about 4 am which was annoying but I just put her in the crate with no fuss and she soon got the idea.
  21. How longs it been going on? How long you had him. My pup took a god couple of weeks to settle at night.
