Farmers should hate the fuckwits in charge instead.

exactly, and as an ecologist(ie a scientist not a tree hugger) what grips my shit is that anti's claim to be "ecological" but dont understand the science and the pro hunters think all ecologists are tree huggers and anti's and so they ignore the science too

nope why? I'm not sure it would be easy to carry out the cull, and cull is he wrong word. Its not culling a few to control numbers its killing the whole lot, every last one. THE KREBS TRIAL * 30 areas of the country selected, each 100 square km * 10 culled proactively, 10 reactively, 10 not culled * Badgers culled through being caught in cage and then shot * Incidence of bovine TB measured on farms inside and outside study areas * Reactive culling suspended early after significant rise in infection, proactive culling reduced infection rates inside t

Culls have already taken place in a number of areas to look at how a larger cull might work, and the answers were they didnt help and in some cases made it worse. Having a cull isnt the same as the issue of digging being legal or illegal they are two different things. Also, no offence intended, but a few half arsed people going about digging wont help either. If a cull was to be effective it would have to be done properly with all the badgers in a huge area killed in a short period of time.
-
So you'd be happy to give up work to spend 6 months culling badgers all day every day, good on ya mate very public spirited of you. Just one question if its not been shown to affect TB rates in cattle what would be the point?
-
Without wishing to bring too much reality to your happy rantings the vaccination would be a much cheaper option as the vaccine is taken orally and can be left out on bait for the badgers. Culling is hardly a cheap option either and there is no conclusive proof, despite tests being done that it has any effect on TB rates in cattle. The cheapest option is to cull the infected cattle, they are easy to find after all, and have better control over the movements of cattle around the country.

Doesnt mention anything about the language people speak.

A good point but its worth doing some research to look at the effects of capture and release. If you love the sport there's no harm in knowing the science about whats happening is there. That writing above will be someones interpretation of the original science. We have no idea if the people who did the science are pro or anti. A good hare population is crucial for coursing and the reduction in numbers is a worry, no doubt the full picture of research shows that coursing has very little effect compared to habitat loss. Just as big game hunting in Africa is being used to help the wildlife the s

Bring back Huntig with dogs,Repeal the hunting act
anagallis_arvensis replied to no ban's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I would say there was a very slim chance of the cons doing something on hunting with dogs but zero of the condems doing anything -
I reckon whilst breeding would have a huge effect on making them too fragile, show owners also seem to keep the animals penned up in a house all the time, in case it gets dirty or scratched, then the thing goes mental and sprints into the hoover

I took my dog for a short walk round the park yesterday, she's on lead only due to injury, but f**k me if a women with two staffie crosses didnt bring a cat with her on the walk, mates lab got deterred pretty easily but not sure it would have had such sucess with my dog had she been off despite the two heavy set body guards........
-
I was talking of the people who, said if a dog goes up to another on the lead, its the dog that goes up to its fault if something happens, which is true to an extent, however if you have a dog that cannot be trusted with others it would be best to keep away from areas with off lead dogs. Each owner is responsible for the behaviour of their own dog, if you can predict what might happen you should minimise that risk and wandering about with a poorly socialised dog in an area with off lead dogs seems daft to me. Not that I have to worry as my dog does neither. Although she has been chased by a co

Thats got to be the most stupidest thing I've read on here. Who says the womans dog is dangerous? As for the horse, it is easier for you to get out of the way from a horse than it is for the horse to get out of your way surely? You sound as if you struggle to control a dog so I wouldn't go slagging off someone who has mastered riding a horse. cant be arsed
-
Now I'm firmly in the middle in this arguement but it seems to me that as long as you have a dangerous dog on a lead you can take it where you like. Its a bit like those dozy tits on their even more dumb horses who seem to think anyone with a dog or on a bicycle should always get out of there way just so their dumb animal doesnt mental and buck them off.
-
True I suppose but when you see two dogs stand at a distance and do a couple of bows to each other followed by trotting up to each other I dont think there's any need for shouting and screaming owners as I've experienced. My dog wont go near a strange dog in general but if one comes over to her its ususaly fairly easy to see whats going to happen. Entire male dogs can be more unpredictable though.
-
I dont think its as clear cut as saying if someones dog is on the lead and yours isnt its your fault. People choose, very often to take there poor trained and socialised dogs to areas with lots of off lead dogs and then piss and moan if your friendly dog does what dogs do. Almost as bad as those that start screaming and shouting in terror when their dog and yours meet off lead, despite it being blindingly obvious that both dogs are happy and non agressive.

Lure coursing - harmless fun or ........
anagallis_arvensis replied to david2363's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
I've taken my dog lure coursing, its a nice day out and she enjoys it despite always seeming to come last as she is racing what appear to be pure whippetxgreys. I dont hunt with her as I live in a city away from where I grew up so dont know any farmers around here who would be happy for me to hunt their land and stock breaking is hard without easy access to omeone who trusts you stock. Hunting isnt obviously in my blood to the extent of many. -
makes me think the article is written by an idiot

anagallis_arvensis replied to jenksi87's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
find someone who uses their bitch for what you want to do then get a dog similar and get a puppy, train it right and worry about breeding less....simples -
You lot are like kiddies in a sweet shop or the blokes who buy the latest euan and charlie BMW to ride to the shops.
