  1. My ferrets eat roe off cuts. Preference may also vary with deer species?
  2. Out of interest, Whats a slider? - (You said it was in place of rings, would it slide down the string with the force of a rabbit and then hold shut? Sounds interesting, if I'm on the right track at all!) Any chance of a photograph? Thank you
  3. I'll have a dig through at the weekend and see what I've got - I'd been meaning to get rid of some since last spring and not got round to it!
  4. I have some spare nests you can have if you want - they were given to me and I don't use them. (I must have about 150 and never use them all.) Am in Farnell, nr Brechin at weekends.
  5. Hi everyone, The albino hob that I was given in the Autumn escaped from the pen last week. The farm is near Farnell, Brechin in Angus. I'm hoping he'll come back and there's food out and my jills to entice him, or that maybe I'll find him when I'm ferretting. Should anyone locally pick him up I'd like him back! Thanks, Steph
  6. Thanks Sighthound - Thanks for the offer, I'll give it three weeks and then might get back to you.
  7. I found an add on the web for a polecat jill in the right area, from 4 weeks ago, so seems hopeful. I e-mailed them, but waiting for a reply. If its a shit worker I'll hand it on a pet as so far seems very tame, and its pretty. 3 ferrets, 4 ferrets... I only wanted to have 2 jills, but seem to permenantly have more!
  8. If anyone's lost a polecat jill in/near Menstrie villiage let me know. Well handled, pale face and 4 white paws. In good condition, mostly due to the people who's shed its been living under feeding it really well for the last few weeks. I'll put up some posters in the village but wondered if anyone on here might have lost one?
  9. Here's an update of my hob ferret Martin (mostly because I've learned how to get photo's from my phone onto PC!) This ferret ate so much, and I didn't really feel that attached to him, so once he was better I had decided to rehome him (October). But then my little old jill was loosing condition, (really thin, abdomen massively swollen and full of water) the vet said it was probably congenital heart failure, so I'm back down to three ferrets, which I think is a fine number for what I do. I've since discovered that my hob is just lovely and I'm glad I didn't get rid of him. So here's s
  10. Thanks very much for the support guys! I was knackered and could barely walk up stairs the next day!
  11. I was also suprised to see how steep it was ~ my editing faults, NOT meant to decieve! So here's the photo cropped at the edges, but not squashed down to size, just to set the record straight. (sorry about that)
  12. I'm rubbish at taking pics when I'm out, but here's my first attempt at documenting an outting. Decided to have a crack at the hill a few weeks ago. Was a lovely Sunday morning. This is the view from the bottom, the rocky bit at the top is where I was heading. I can recommend using a dog to carry your nets. There are hundreds of rabbits living in the slopes at the top, and they're quite tame and bold. I've been meaning to go up there for ages, but never have the time. Netting the rocky ground wasn't too easy, especially when it turned to scree in place
  13. I have been ferretting rabbits for over a year and still prefer to hit them over the head with something (a large spanner) rather than stretching or chinning them. A guy showed me how to do both of these things when I started, I did and still do practice on dead bunnies, but I'm not confident about it and prefer to hit them. Bruised meat about the head and neck results, but I can live with that, till I get better. I would suggest this option to you New2This.
  14. I have a Wildview infrared xtream... got it from an American company, through work, so I don't know the company off hand, but can find out. Think it was £120. I remember it being a good £30 less from America than UK. You can pay a lot for them, Around £ - £250. Mine takes good shots through the day, but night photos are mostly poor. I've not trialled it throughly yet. shop around.
  15. Sorry, just realised that this should be in the ferrets for sale or free section - Can I move it?
  16. I posted on here a couple of months ago that I was given a really knackered albino hob. I have three jills, and to be honest, only wanted two, but a friend of a friend was wanting rid of two that belonged to a relative who'd died. So I have three, and now four. But he's eating tons, double what they normally get through! When I go ferretting, I usually take 1 or 2 ferrets with me when I go, so 4 aren't going to get the excersise and attention they deserve. He's still underweight, but otherwise is in good health. Not bitten or nipped at all, even when I was hand feeding him everything.
  17. Hello and welcome. What are you studying and what do you want to know about?
  18. I've fed sea bass, no problems, happy ferrets.
  19. I'm a girl and love all this hunting melarky. My now boyfriend was well impressed when on our 4th date I produced my landlady's air riffle for the evening's enteratinment! I've been shooting his pigeons for the past year, but only last Saturday decided to try the rabbits... they're quite tame as they're used to folk driving and walking around, normally they're only shot at night, so I could get to within about 20m. I shot 5 and ferreted one. which I was very plesaed with!
  20. The One - the vet said to bath him, but I haven't, as I didn't want to stress him out any more. He's not been scratching, I think most of that black in him is flakes of dried blood from the scabs and cuts. Do you think I should wash him? I have been leaving him alone to sleep and eat as he wants ~ this is the first time I've taken him out of the cage, and he was back to his sleeping within 10 mins, his house is very cozy. He's on a mixture of minced pork, chicken, lambs liver and 1/2 egg/day.
  21. Thanks Kay, I'll keep on the case. He's picked up a lot, he was walking about inquisitively last night for the first time since I've had him. In the top couple of photos you can make out the lump on the right side of his face and also he has a 'gunky' left eye. The vet said the lump could be an old injury, and even if new, would take a long course of strong antibiotics, so he said just to wait and see. So long as he's eating lots and putting on wieght, I don't think he can be in too much pain?
  22. And her's another couple, (worse photos I'm affraid) of some of the puncture wounds acros his back and the bruise is on his underside. (i'm assuming its a bruise ~ can ferrets just have coloured skin like this?)
  23. I took some pictures of the ferret last night. Not sure how well they'll look as had to crop them down a fair bit and my camera (nor my photography) are great!
  24. When I was a kid we kept hens and had chicks every summer. Something was picking off the chicks (not baby chicks, about 6 inchs high) one by one in the daytime, and they were all inside an ark/run. One day my mum and I were upstairs standing at the window and saw this cat we ended up with (caught it in a trap and the Cats Protection Legue had no room for it so we ended up keeping) on the lawn, staring at the chicks. He was there for ages, and then one of the chicks stuck its head out through one of the 'carrying handle holes' made in the wood at the end, to peck the grass outside and the ca
  25. Thats a LOT of rabbits! I bought a 50yard long net at the start of the year ... had a look at it, got a bit tangled, spent an hour trying to fold it up again and gave up. How rubbish is that!? Will have to have another go, even if I do make a mess of it.
