  1. Out by a meter. If your working in meters. Which it isn't.
  2. Far out. Don't you mean far in? The reading has always been like this from new so I doubt it needs re calibrating.
  3. "As for carving...I get my fill" As in turkey carving?
  4. Still don't get it, or maybe you don't. Ill let you mull over the technical details. Ill just work my dogs with my locator that suits me perfectly. Thanks for your concern. FTB
  5. Forgot to add, that is using the ortovox collar. The b&f collar is different again. Maybe you should stick to a string with knots tied to it if you can't get your head around it. Not rocket science. FTB
  6. What's there to explain? 2.1 on my box is about 3.5 ft. So for the 6 ft+ dig you so urgently crave, the reading would be about 4 on the box. I don't know if its in ft,meters, yards or some other scale. But I use it enough to know how to convey the reading on the box into actual depth. Does that explain it in english for you. If not, please PM me to keep your shite off the thread, or go and seek help. Thanks again. FTB
  7. Nae bother. Sometimes thl brings out your inner prick. And some are just pricks 24/7. ATB FTB
  8. Internet heros? Bullshitting? Ive got nothing to prove and am more than happy with my box. I use it enough to know exactly what it says on the box, and exactly what it will be when dug. I don't know what 2.1 in Barryvox terms is...ask Bryan or one of the many users. The way I see it, the shorter the distance, the more acurate. So Im really not complaining. A scale of 1-10 in inches is more precise than a scale of 1-10 in metres. Use your noodle and work it out. I didn't put this post up for an argument, merely just as I thought like minded people might be interested in
  9. Jr. I can only hazard a guess that you have not done as much digging with a barryvox as you make out. Nowhere did I claim they were 6ft or anything like it. Probably 3.5 to 4 ft. What I did say is the reading on the box which is acurate and never failed me. Maybe you should pm bryan about the box depths if it bothers you that much. Secondly, when digging on a steep banking, only a fool would go for the lowest reading. You have to do a bit of judgement to break through on top of the dog. As you have done so much digging, you will know all of this. In any case, I wouldn't loose any sl
  10. Jr. Barryvox is in yards not meters. But thanks for your input anyway mate. And there's feck all wrong with my box I can drop on the dogs nose every time. Thanks anyway buddy. FTB
  11. Well, Lamping got written off last night so I decided to have an early night and get out sharpish with the dogs at first light. Got up at 6 and was at the spot for 7. It was a beutifull morning with the dew heavy on the grass and a slight nip in the air. After a mile walk from the van, I crossed the river and was walking up to the earth. I felt the leads start to pull on from 300 yards away, so I knew something was or had been there(bitch is an exceptional marker). Tied up the youngster and my wee bitch flew to ground and was on in literally 5-10 seconds. Which, quite frankly, is amazing
  12. Well, the day started with a long treck from the road up onto the hill face. On the way, I passed various woods, some of which have the odd hole or two. After attempting a few to no avail (werent even kicked out) I thought I had been to soon in the year for rattling the holes. As I made my was further up onto the hill, the land becomes very steep and the last wood before the levels is a thin plantation of birch and scrub. I could see on my way up that the earth in question was kicked out, and although the sun was out, I was optamistic charlie may still be curled up form his long night. I ti
  13. Thats what it's all about. Its nice to be nice! FTB
  14. Managed to upload them onto photobucket. Thanks alot FTB
  15. I know of a lad who shall remain nameless who keeps a few terriers, one of which happens to be the last of a line of top notch working lakelands...by ANYONES standard. The dog is kenneled 24/7 and hasn't seen work (or even a showring ) in the last 3 years. I took the dog out to try an earth that was holding last season(due to a shortage of dog's). When I picked the dog up he was an utter state and an embarrasment to dogmen. His coller was embeded in his neck, and had to be cut off with a stanley. I have offered to take the dog off his hands, and offered him cash...but he won't pa
  16. Cheers. I'll have a play and see what I can come up with. Aye Archie it's a blackberry with a card. FTB
  17. Just wondering is there any way of getting pictures off your phone, onto your computer without the USB cable thing? Thanks for any help. FTB
  18. Had a dig this morning with the barryvox on a steep banking (by steep I mean i was digging into it, and you struggled to keep your footing). Dropped right on top of the dog. Never in a million years would that happen with the counterparts I have previously used (mainly bellman and Deben MK1,2+3). Just an opinion and obServation based on experience. Cheers. FTB
  19. Don't know what you mean mate, maybe im being a bit thick? Wouldn't change my barryvox for love nor money. Cheers FTB
  20. German pointers are a very versatile breed. But either way you will have to weigh up the pros and cons of having an all rounder as opposed to a specialist. I would go for a gundog, personally. FTB
  21. Go and chap farm doors. Hundreds of them and don't get disheartened. Or help out keepers who don't do terrierwork themselves.
  22. Depends how much you are going to dig compared to how much you want to spend. If you only use it occasionally (like 90% on here), then i would say the deben should be adequate. If you plan on doing a fair bit, then it will be money well spent. I used my deben last season on a fair few digs whilst my barryvox was a way getting fixed. Wasn't a problem. Know of loads of folk who have a shiny bellman and flint ... sitting gathering dust. FTB
  23. Get a bit of permission first. I would go onto someone elses ground and show them how to work their dog. But I wouldn't invite a stranger onto my ground. Once bitten twice shy. FTB
  24. Viewings can be made in ayrshire/central scotland at weekends only.
  25. I am selling a metalic blue ford fiesta van 1.4 turbo diesel. Its an 07 plate with 57 k miles on the clock. Looks and drives like new. 1 year MOT and Tax. 4 new tyres. Just been serviced. This is a very cheap van, an ideal runabout and will be hassle free/reliable. Vans like this usually go for 3 grand upwards on autotrader. Very economical at 55+mpg. Not in any rush to sell! Only bought the van as a runabout until I get the one I'm after (bigger transit connect). Will easily fit 3 or 4 dogs in it. Has bags of room and very comfortable. Being honest,it is too nice an
