hi i just thought i would post some pics of my 2 dogs. they are both non-ped racing whippets and are racing a bit aswell as ferreting and lamping. this is more my dads dog than mine she is 7 mounths, when i was taking her for a walk today she caught her first rabbit she is 21-22" in height. this is my dog she is 20" a year old and has just started on the lamp catching a few and has been ferreting but only at the end of the season this winter should be a good one.

Hi all, just wondered if any of you will be going to the terrier and working dog show at Spy Park in Wiltshire on Sunday, purely out of interest because last year there was a lot of lurchers. But how many of them actually work I don’t know. There is also another one at bowood house on the 22nd of july anyone going to that one? all the best

site wont work

i can see your point larger dogs are nice to see running on rabbits, but i dont know with all dogs but my mates seems to miss the rabbit on the pick up and gets outturned by it, but my small 19" whippet (only just started lamping her) but she seems to make a easy job of lamped rabbits (now shes picking up )but shed be made to look stupid by a larger dog on fox im sure. cant wait to get her ferreting

i want it mostly for rabbits so lamping and ferreting the whippet a have is brilliant for ferreting and ratting so i would like something a little more suited to lamping both rabbits and the odd fox and maybe the very occasional accidental hare and I have seen one whippet saluki run it was a really good dog the bloke took everything with it that’s what sorta gave me the idea but a grey does sound good and there are plenty around would I go to a good racing one? Thanks all the best

yeh i am not sure i just thought it would give it more stamina and would be a slightly smaller dog than a grey cross as i dont want a to bigger dog.

Hi does any one know of or have a saluki dog to put over my whippet bitch? Ideally a good working one, I was told the Arab imports tend to be better but I am not sure? I am in Wiltshire so really needs to be in or around the county. What sort of price will the stud fees be? Thanks all the best

used them with whippets, better off making your own from a old starter motor and a big solder real or somthing simalar far cheeper but if you have the money http://www.jansgifts.co.uk/list.php?type_id=100 i think the whippet racing club i go to mite have a home made one for sale it works well il find out if you like? all the best!

Many travellers are brilliant people, I think they have a more logical way of life than most ppl its natural to be mobile and move( I know that most don’t now though) it’s some of the Irish that are a bit more troublesome but a lot of them are ok to. Ive heard about people eating hedgehogs it wasent just travellers, but there are so many nicer foods out there thats far easier to get not many people bother. This is my opinion so don’t have to much of a go lol

was so funny one time we were walking through some posh blokes estate and we bumped into him with the dogs, he was really interested and asked what can she catch can he take deer and my mate said yeh with some hesitation lol, and one popped out the woods and he gave him permition to run it on it and the dog took it down after a bit of a run, the bloke was amazed and said we can come back anytime (it was al accidental of course) a few weeks later he got himself a lurcher don’t think its taking deer tho lol

Hi, I am asking this question for a mate, he has a beddlington whippet X collie greyhound (he will be on the forum soon) when I go out ferreting with him, more often than not his dog will pick up the sent of deer hunt them down and start coursing them and sometimes catching them, which for him is very frustrating. It is a brilliantly well behaved dog and can be called away from anything els it chases. I think his biggest worry is the dog getting hurt. Would it be worth borrowing a shock collar to stop this, do they work? Thanks all the best rory
-
hi wow you know your stuff, so i should be ok using them for a bit of lamping and ferreting then. thanks alot mate all the best

whats the name of that painting i cant find it on google? thanks all the best oh sorry i did not read the post above
-
non ped racing whippet as i have just started racing shes 12 months seems to be doing ok with the racing but not picking up very well at the moment on rabbits, but i am told this will improve with time. but my main worry was ruining her for racing. no one with non ped racing whippets seem to use there dogs for rabbits aswell as the racing. i was told it was because they have so much go thay will try to hard and ruin themselves but i really dont know now lol thanks all the best

thanks for your help il stick with what ive got for the moment and maby move onto some larger crosses in the future i do like the idea of the beddy crosses, is it hard to find desent bedlingtons to breed from ?
-

-
hi i live in a small place called lacock near Bath in wiltshire. yes i would be interested, the only thing is the farmers around here are a bit funny about hunting in the summer, and al the grass is to long or has livestock in it, but in the winter it will be ok. il pay for your petrol of corse. were abouts are you then ? thanks all the best
-
ok i mite just stick with the non ped whippets for coursing not ideal i know but as ive just started a bit of racing aswell it saves me having more dogs and they seem fine for ferreting. i dissagree with your small dogs are not up to the job comment, i havent seen many lurchers but the smaller ones turn so much better and alwase seem to finish a course quicker than a larger dog, and enless you are taking hundreds of rabbits a nite which im not i dont see the point in me having a large dog. thanks all the best
-
thanks for all the help i mite go for the quickset a bit more money but at the sounds of things they are worth it. there doesent seem to be many people atall in this area that do any ferreting let alone use long nets and as im not driving yet i cant go far. but im sure il learn eventaly. thanks your all great people all the best
