I am looking to get a terrier it will be my first so nothing that will eat me alive lol, its to do I bit of digging and ratting with I have a whippet at 12 months who has just started working on the lamp I have done a bit of ratting with her but a terrier would probably be better suited. I was thinking of getting a jack rustle as someone I went digging with had an old strain and they were brilliant. I like patterdales but not sure, ive been told they are complete nutters so mite not be the best dog to start with. And please no one suggest Plummer that’s a definite no just that name makes me

i was given a jill that somone found but i had no idea how old it was, recenlt it died leaving the poor hob on his own and like you said they are not the same animals enless thay have company, so 2 jills should give me a good start, i was also given the hob by a mate but he doesent know how old he is is there anyway i can tell? hee seems really healthy.

Thanks for all your help I have a hobb at the moment and he has had the chop but hasten been al that interested in working, so I think I mite get 2 jills to keep him company and hopefully they will be better workers.

Hi, is there a big difference between ferrets in there working ability. As I was told that a lot don’t go down deep enough in the burrows they just seem to stay in the top level. I am looking for some new ferrets this year I was going to just get a few from the first litter that comes available to me, but would it be worth trying to get some decent working ones. As I ferret a lot of banks ferrets that go deeper would be better but im not sure this is true what are your opinions?

yeh sounds a good idea wish there are some good sites on ferreting like www.ferreting.biz but I haven’t come across any sites that explain well with the use of pictures. It mite be worth spending a bit of money and getting a proper site name. when the site gets good im sure you will get sponsors to pay for it but it wont be that easy. Good luck all the best rory

what the reason for sale?
-
oh ok the reson i belived in the terrior blood idea is because the slightly more stocky dogs seem to do quite well in the racing or is just because they are better built for sprinting, but i realise this is not alwase the case. and i was told by somone who has been racing a long time that alot of the non ped racing dogs have terrior blood in them to give them that go. sorry im not trying to cause an argument iv been asking to many questions lol all the best rory

Hi I realise it will dilute the speed, but what I was thinking is why are the non ped racing whippets faster than the peds I was told because fighting terrier blood has been bred into them to give them more fight and determination. My stupid logic was that this mite be the same as many patterdales seem to be very determined dogs. But I can see without diluting the terrier blood some more they will not have the [bANNED TEXT] build to go fast. At was just a thought and I don’t think it will make any better lurchers than already exist so I wont risk the chance of not finding homes for pups in t

hi i would like to give snaring a try as there are tons of rabbits coming of the railway lines near me and i am sure the best way to cath them would be to snare them, but i dont have a clue i got myslef 20 snares to get me started, i guess id be better of making my own in the future as it would get expensive. ive made pegs but i dont understand how you get them to stay up. are there any sites that show in detail how to set snares? i really dont have a clue. all the best rory

Does any one have any pictures of this cross as i would be interested to see how they look? i don’t know much about breeding lurchers but if I crossed a patterdale with a whippet and then crossed that with a whippet again is there a chance i would get some good dogs? as then they would have plenty of speed and allot of will power and determination from the terrior but it would still be a small dog. all the best rory

Hi just out of pure interest does a paterdale X whippet make a good cross for a small lamping dog, Does anyone have any pictures of this cross? Or would I be better of with a Bedlington whippet? all the best rory

If tried ragging a rabbit skin and using it to train her to retrieve from when she was young. I think I will give running her with another dog a try, but the only person I know with a lurcher in this area is not very good on a lamp seems to have no confidence in the dark for some reason, mite be something to do with a late start because of the foot and mouth.. So until I can start ferreting again I don’t know how it will be possible.
-
no i was thinking about it but not with the ferrets i have at the moment as i dont want them killing underground to often when rabbiting (if thats true) but i mite breed and keep some purly for ratting.
-
ok thanks i will give running her with my mates dog a try. i was told not to run 2 dogs together when young as it can ruin them is this true?

Hi I have a non-ped racing whippet at 19†I was intending to use her for lamping and ferreting I have taken her out a few times on the lamp and she catches up and turns with the rabbit so well but she wont pick it up she will keep on chasing it until she looses it. It was the same with ferreting she is brilliant at marking and will watch the holes but once one bolts she makes no attempt to pick it up. Shes only been at it for a few months as she is only 1 years old this month so do you think she may learn to pick up? I was thinking of catching some live rabbits when ferreting and put her in a

Hi me and a mate have recently started ferreting, we have just got all are kit up together ready for next season as we found are self running out of nets which I don’t mind to much because it gives my whippet and my mates lurcher some runs. We are quite happy with the ff2 receiver now we are finally used to it lol. Anyway what I want to ask is there anyone that would be willing to take me and my mate out ferreting just to pick up a few tips and get a better idea of the sport, also some experience of lamping would be so much appreciated and now im starting to sound like a [bANNED TEXT] cheeky
