Sorry mate, Had look around another forum couldnt see anything in the south of Ireland, hope you find something,How is your pup bred? I take my young Whippet to the Northern ped whippet rasing club, hes trialing at the moment, a bit of fun on a Sunday afternoon. This is him chasing the lure at about 5 or 6 months old the is him now at 10 months. All the best with your pup -
Some smashing looking and well toned up Whippets a credit to you all Hope you dont mind me adding mine to the line up 10 months 20 inchs & 28lb

I had a JackRussel years ago then added a Dobermann that russel put the Dobermann in her place from day one and the Dobermann was always submissive to the russel but would tackle anything or anyone if provoked. Its not about size its about dominance within the pack order.

There the same breed mate they changed the name from GSD to a Alsation because of the 1st world war, with the anti feeling towards anything German but there is a differance between the old British, GSD breeding in confirmation eg bigger boned more of a level back ect, to what you see today but still one of the same dog

As Pennymeadow said he was pre ban, I believe he was the last champ to be made up before the ban came in. If you have look on archive Whippets it will give more info. Cheers

Cheers folks for your positive comments, Hes 20 inchs and should make it to 30lbs hes about 27 lbs at the moment. I made the decision to get a Whippet above a lurcher because Im new at the game, Its hard in the area I live in to get permission so Im less likely to get pulled, if out mooching with my Pedigree pet Whippet Plus hes Race/coursing bred so something else to fall back into if I cant give him enough work, Hes doing okay with his trialing and his recovery after a run is very good, He is out of Photo Finish, pre Ban coursing champ and Penny pictures race bred, both are keen workers.

Heres two more of him the day after his first rabbit alot more focus and alert.

Hope these pics come up,first posting of of my pup. He is race/course bred sire is a pre ban coursing champ and I have high hopes working him, doing some mooching with him at the moment and hes doing okay but like alot of lads on here trying to get my foot in the door with some permission.

Do you have anymore info on Bilco, Was he a Ped or Non Ped Whippet ? I have looked on Archive Whippets and cant find him , Im bringing on a young Whippet very pleased with him on the track and out in the field, His breeding is racing lines and coursing,His sire was the last pre ban champ, In the coursing season 2004/05 he ran 20 courses under rules and won 17. He is 20 inchs at the shoulder & 14.51 kg,,,31.99 pounds. I recon such a alliance with the right dogs would compliment and produce some decent dogs. IF anyones got any info that would be great.

This will be my first season with my young dog going by his mother and sire im not to worried about stamina, I would imagine regarding stamina breeding has alot to do with it , correct feeding, exercise, and the dog its self, loads of drive & heart. Again theres people on here with alot more experience than me who should be able to give you the answer your after. If you dont find what your after, try the working Whippet forum the lads on there have years of experience with Whippets.

Correct coat on a working dog
northwestmitch replied to northwestmitch's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
Youre right there Desert dog borders only look right when handstripped. This year at the welsh gamefair i noticed a few really pale wheaten coloured borders,i got talking to the woman who bred one of the winning borders[100% worker] and she told me their owners are lightening their colour by clipping....sad really. She also said she had been breeding borders for 10 years and had never seen a genuine wheaten border as they must have blue coloured ears if genuine. Can anyone help with me with this womans name as she had to rush off before i got her details i am sure she called her kennel Badger -
Correct coat on a working dog
northwestmitch replied to northwestmitch's topic in Earthdogs & Working Terriers
They are the sort of old propper borders had a very thick skin, and some were difficult to scruff, so thick was the skin!!! But, I still hunt the hills every winter, where the border terrier was origionally bred, and with dogs that have far less protection from the weather... maybe an outcross is needed for my blood, to help restore coat. Thats them D&N, ain't seen type like that for years. I'd be careful with that outcross if I were you, Borders with hard jackets & thick skin may be difficult to find but with excellent working ability, harder still...! Aye, tell us about -

What are peoples thoughts if any? How important is it to have the correct coat on a working terrier, been to a couple of game shows and seen dogs being placed with coats stripped out with no top coat in front of other dogs, maybe not as smart but showing correct texture and type of coat ,I thought these are working shows not the pedigree fashion shows or are they??
