  1. Fireblade, I was in the same situation as yourself. I thought about a decent rangefinder and thought I could use it to spot aswell. I decided against it and did a little research and ended up going for those leica rangefinder binos 10x42 (Im sure they were £1500 not £1700 after discount though). I am so glad I did they are extremely expensive but cheaper than the zeiss. The glass is superb and like you say range quickly. I wouldn't say they were the best on the market but I certainly don't need anything better. I can't recommend a cheaper pair but I'd definitely say hang on and keep saving or
  2. I've got the swarovski z6 but the 5-30x50 IR and the 3-18x50 non IR they are superb at all lights whether natural or lamp can't say they are the best for nv though. I looked through the zeiss etc but not the IOR and preffered the swaro. It's a personal choice and you need to compare them yourself before you decide. Do you need to dial in or are you a point and shoot kinda guy? Personally I didn't want target turrets but many do. The swaro's are second focal plane and if you set the parralax at 100yrds I only need to adjust it over 350yrds when it's magged right up otherwise I can't say it's bl
  3. All sorted now cheers all, here's a pic........... Edit: did attach a pic but didn't upload for some reason
  4. Green pants, vest and plenty of camoflauge paint.
  5. I haven't put in the order yet but I think it's sorted, If I use the 30mm ring with weaver rail attached and cut the weaver grab off the bottom I can use an extremely high reach 30mm mount for the torch but I can't attach a pic for some reason. I haven't got the quick release lever I want but at least the torch will clear the scope. No need to phone you now as that is the way to go Excellent I can put the welder away

  7. Why not buy these, normal mount on scope and off set on the V2 This is what Im currently looking at. They do a 25mm scope mount with a rail attached but not 30mm so would have to use the 30mm mount with weaver grab and bit of rail like you suggest. I could mount it directly above the scope as my laser is off set but I think I'll buy the offset mount as it may fit straight on my piccatinny rail on the gun but I would prefer the quick release type mounts for changing scopes so I could leave the scope mount and rail on the gun and then just add the torch with QR mount. Any idea of wh
  8. Claretclass, what scope mount do you use for the catapult v2? I've got the catapult v3 but Im struggling to find a suitable mount as the body is 30mm so choice is limited. Well done on the tools sounds like your well equiped!
  9. Obviously you've NOT been using an illegal artificial illuminating device to shoot deer! There are several LED torches on eBay at great prices that do the job very well, spending loads on a lamp isn't really necessary. Must admit I bought these led torches and they would certainly do what the op wants but they are no where near the quality beam. Some also heat up and some are better than others. I bought 3 of the same and they all had different beams and slight differences in brightness but were worth every penny. I will say if you do buy a cheap one make sure the unit switches on
  10. I've got one of these. It's a great torch well made can be split in half and used with one battery instead of two. It will pick up foxes eye shine I suppose 300 yrds and shootable to about 200yrds. It's not as bright as a deben max pro but would certainly be more than the op needs. I compared this to the torch in the previous post linked to the torch from uk hunting supplies and to be honest if budget is a consideration then it's the hunting supplies package. It has the same led and a decent build but I don't know what filters fit it. I haven't mounted the catapult v3 to the gun so the ranges
  11. I have read about these image stabilising binos, how do you find them? They are a fair price, are you paying for the glass, name or stabilization do you think?
  12. This makes me think about my leica's. I was looking at a rabbit through my leica range finder binos at last light at 584 metres (think it worked out nearly 640 yrds) and could see it reasonably ok, so I thought I'd look through my swarovski scope..... I turned it up to max mag (18) as I thought that should almost look twice as clear as my leicas on 10x. The picture was shite I was gutted, then I thought....Fork this scope is parralax adjustable! say no more!
  13. I seem to find my guns take a few shots to settle back down after cleaning, so don't tend to clean after every outing. Some nights though I might have only fired 1 round so seems a bit pointless. I usually just watch how many rounds I've used or clean if I think my accuracy is suffering.
  14. Best way sometimes but later down the line and if your accuracy starts to suffer it's a bit late then wondering if it would have made a difference shooting it in. I haven't been meticulous with my new rifles but I did make an effort with the first few shots with bore cleaner. I would say get the cleaning rods out and give it a good scrub now though. You should have run a dry patch through it before you shot it in the first place to get any oil out of the barrel.
  15. I just re read this post and felt it could be misinterpreted who it was directed at so to clarify it was in reply to post 15
  16. Pot and kettle springs to mind on this one
  17. Dude you're sooooooo funny! No have to be honest and say thanks for your help with this guys. I've been looking back and forth between everything for the last few days so hopefully now my mind is made up. Well until so smart alec comes along and say "well actually I use one of these ***** and they're great!" at which point It'll be a case of Look before you dive in there is an LED torch from UK hunting supplies it's 900 lumen short and light comes with batteries and charger but it's £20 over budget. Have a look it wasn't quite bright enough for me but was good value for mone
  18. Sounds like you need an LED torch like the tracer ledray gl4 tactical gun lamp!
  19. Hi Sako Again, thanks for the advice. The amount of light-loss was one of my concerns however like I said, ideally I'd like to have a white light that I can switch to red when I need to. The idea of carrying around a separate torch aswell sounds awkward. I'm not really expecting to ever have anyone else out with me you see so that's why I'm looking for something that is small and self contained power-wise. The Deben max lamps is another set that I looked at but because of the bulky power pack, I was put off. I get the feeling that I'm likely to have to compromise a bit and either give
  20. I think you'll find with led, filters are not as effective as they cut out to much light, hence buying the red led to start. You may want to look at a deben max lamp, light, not to big and not to costly and a pretty impressive beam with the choice of flip up filters making it easy to swap between white or filtered light. I use one but I also use lightforce and a LED torch. Edit: Have a look here you don't really need a lithium battery as the max doesn't have a massive drain on the battery I believe they have a 50w bulb so a small lead acid battery will suffice, all within your buget to!
  21. I have both. I like the way the N1000 can switch off either end of the power settings ie off,1,2,3,4,off where as the dipol has to go back through the nine power clicks back to zero. I've never really had to adjust the beam allignment on either once they've been set. The dipol needs a allen key to adjust where the N1000 is just adjusted by hand. Both adjust the beam diameter by twisting the front lens. They are very close on full power and would not choose on preference of power. I prefer to shoot with the dipol, as on 3 I think it's slightly dimmer than the N1000 on 1
  22. I wouldn't go that far, have a think of an add on to start as camo said. That's the cheapest way to get into useful nv and it then doesn't have to be tied to one gun. Try it out on the .22 see how you get on, see if you like nv. If you were to buy an add on and laser and didn't get on with it they are always in demand so you wouldn't loose loads of money if you were to sell it but if you are like everyone else you'll become addicted to an expensive habbit.
  23. Sounds great mag for add on, I use a 3-18x50 but you'll need to say the make and whether it has adjustable parallax or not for these guys to tell you if it works well. Also there's a scope simular to the one you suggest on the bay 6x mag and a £2000 rrp price so you could get bargain. I tried my nv on my.22 but just didn't get on with it. It's hard judging distances with nv so unless you range find or stick to closer shots with the .22 I found I was missing as many as I'd hit with mine. I've now got it on a .204 which is pretty flat shooting and it's now boringly simple to headshoot
  24. I'd do the same, stick it on the hmr so you haven't got to worry about hold overs as judging distance is hard at first with nv. Then when the rabbits start dissapearing after the first loud bang swap it onto the .22 with sub sonics and silencer to get that edge again!
