  1. Im looking for what I paid for it because it's been tested and confirmed as a perfect N1000 as you can get! Ha ha
  2. Do you want to buy mine I want one of them laserluch's! N1000 variable 3 weeks old bargain four fiths of the price!
  3. Camo good advice again! N1000 job done! But personally I prefer my led illuminator out to just about 100yrds then the N1000 gets switched on after. Unless the mono's on the gun and then I've got no choice I have to use the N1000 at all distances because the mono IR illuminator is blocked by the scope and lamp.
  4. Ah gottcha I assumed pulsar was a lamp! What they haven't told you is the lasers are harmful to the human eye whereas the led's are eye safe. What distances are you hoping to shoot?
  5. I also am a newbe as you say but I have used a lamp and IR filter to give the extra illumination. It will work no problem but first you need to ask yourself: Do you have the lamp on the gun or does someone else hold the lamp for you? If someone else is holding the lamp they'll also need a nv mono or they wont know where to point the lamp for you to shoot. If you have the lamp mounted on the gun, go out for the night and instead of lamping and spotting the target then looking through your scope, try just looking through your scope all night to spot and find your target. Not only is this hard it
  6. Well I've Emailed border barrels just wait now I suppose. What factory 204 rifle would you guys recommend fot the most accurate description of a 1 in 12 twist?
  7. I'd say yes. From all I've seen, 1:10 gives the best compromise from 32g to 48. Berger supply bullets from 25g - awesomely fast! - to 58g. They recommend 1:9 for the heavy rounds; 1:10 - 1:11 seems fave for the sensible weights in between. Start with a decent action, nothing flash, put a Border/Archer 1:10 on it and upgrade the action as you go. As ever, just my opinion. I like the sound of this opinion as I think I want to use the heavier bullet straight away. How do I go about buying it in bits? I would like to buy the whole thing from the same place if possible. How much is a
  8. Yes I need the 204 for a nv add on, it's been recommended that I don't go more than a 223 for recoil. Also shooting rabbit's with nv on my.22 is hard work because I can't judge distance so I want a flat shooting round I can just aim and shoot out to about 150 before I have to think about distances or holdover. I'll still have another 22-250 with swarovski scope for lamping foxes as a lot of my shots are well over 250 so I can't be without a 22-250 either. I specifically want the 204 for nv.
  9. I only shoot about 50 foxes a year so hand loading has never been high on my list of priorities as I probably only go through 200 rds of 22-250 a year including the occasional rabbit and crow. I suppose I might shoot a few more rounds through a 204 as it'll be so much lighter so I won't mind carrying it more often. I can't see it fully taking over the fox control from my 22-250 just the lamp shy ones and cubs. I doubt I'd ever wear out a barrel but Im just worried on it's stopping power at distance when I really can't fault the 22-250.
  10. Cheers snap, how long would the barrel last shooting 32's?
  11. Now I am worried! I thought a 204 was the one for me Im begining to now think 223. So would I be better off getting a cheap 204 and then replacing the barrel for a 1 in 10?
  12. Can anyone tell me how a 40g bullet through a 204 with a 1in12 twist would stabilise? Reason I ask is I was hoping for a 1-10 twist or 1-11 but sako's factory 204 with or without stainless is 1 in twelve. Im a little concerned as I mainly want to shoot the heavier bullet longer distances.
  13. Get busy testing, I need to buy a more suitable scope when my variation gets here. That said Im going to try a few thursday when the gun shops open late. I need to get rid of my 22-250 so I'll test a few while Im there.
  14. Trooperman, can I ask why you haven't got the 204? Did you not get on with the calibre? Im about to vary my fac for something with less recoil for nv. the 204 was my first choice. Im still hesitant but I've only got until thursday to decide.
  15. My scope doen't have parallax adjustment and neither does my AGS but both work it's just the S&B is better so I use that. As I said what do I know though! But they are only any good at certain distances.
  16. Im really not the one to be giving the best advice on nv, I can only tell you my very little experience of it. The two above posters are the men for the job! My scope is a non adjustable S&B. It has been said these are not much good for nv but until I get a new gun Im sticking with it. I like you couldn't get the cross hairs into focus, I think my main problem was the eye adjustment on the scope. You have to set the SCOPE for the add on. Just using the scope in daylight I needed the eye adjustment on the scope all the way in. With the mono attatched it needed about a third of a turn out.
  17. With mine I had to concentrate getting the cross focussed correctly. That mean't a lot of fiddling with the eye adjuster on the scope, the front objective lens, the eyepiece lens on the mono and also moving the mono forwards and backwards until the cross looks the same as it does in the day. The mono needs to be set up completely different for the scope compared to just looking through it. Once the cross is focussed you will probably need extra illumination as it most certainly wont be as bright as the mono off the scope. I found with my non adjustable parallax scope it's at it's best between
  18. Excellent reply again. You are totally right about the practice but when a live fox affects my lively hood and it looks like an elephant through my scope......Im having a go. 20 years ago I used to shoot a lot of rabbits and crows with the.22 and from that I remember aiming way high hence my comment earlier in the thread of shooting a foot high. As I said my .22 shall now remain redundant from the fox or distance shots as it doen't suit MY style. I've shot a 22-250 for the last 18 years and I wouldn't even have thought about using the .22 if my nv fitted the 22-250. Each to their own I suppose
  19. Cheers John, I think Im going to leave the .22 in the cabinet and stick to lamping with the 22-250 until my 204 arrives. Then I'll get back out with the add on. At least I know how to shoot the 22-250 and the best thing is I haven't got to think about large hold overs until Im past 300 so I don't look like this as often when I miss.
  20. Dadioles, excellent reply a lot of good information there! No wonder I missed that fox last night my zero was at 50 and I only took aim just above him, eight inch drop im definately gonna miss. I just haven't spent time shooting targets with the .22 as I never use it for shooting further than I can hit something with the butt of it, hense my poor target aquisition with it. Will it drop a fox at 100yrds or has it got to be a head shot?
  21. I need a metre stick to measure my shots!
  22. Well said that man danw! Rossy looking at the pic there's gonna be a lot of longer shots, mmmm which would I choose?????? I wonder Ask yourself this. How many people have had a .22 and then varied the fac for a .17? Answer absolutely loads Now how many have gone and varied the .17 for a .22? No where near the same number Im afraid. A .17 does have a crack when you fire but a good mod does do a lot to reduce this and if those lamp shy rabbits are a problem the .17 is ready for a nv add on. I missed a fox with my .22 last night with the nv at just about 100yrds it looked like an elephan
  23. That most certainly looks the part! Did you not get on with the reme barrel?
  24. I wasn't talking about 60 yrds! 150 yrds is way to optimistic to hit a rabbit with a .22lr every shot . Dont get me wrong if I could be bothered to go out and practise following the rainbow with my .22 then I'd learn the tradjectory a bit better and do more than pull off lucky shots. This thread is for a 'firearm newbie' therefore my opinion is .17hmr for rabbits simple as that. Everyones entitled to their opinion and granted you must be an expert in the field of .22's but I don't rate them and when I miss it affects my living so it's centrefire all they way for me. A lot of people who shoot
  25. Mike my main reason of getting the 204 is for a nv add on. It's only reccommended up to 223 but I like the sound of a 204. I've got two 22-250's the one is my lamping gun with a swarovski z6i for the longer shots and the other can't be fitted with a mod so it has to go. This barrel issue is something Im now going to look at in great depth thanks for everyones help.
