The wild cat, isn't that the one you can dissmantle and clean? I've got the t8 on my other 22-250 and it rusts like hell. I was thinking of a stainless steel one on my next gun, are they any good? What do you think of stainless barrels apart from theyre a bit shiny?
-
Cheers derboy, now I understand! I went to zero my 22-250 today with the S&B scope ready for tonight, there's no mod on it so it was like a cannon. There's no way Im putting my eye tight behind an add on on that b*****d I came straight back and stuck the S&B on the .22 what a difference, my boys toy bb gun sounds more powerful than em sub sonics! So I need a new gun no matter what! I'll give one of those calibres a bit more thought. Cheers

Derboy you've got me when it comes to measurements, 6mm? what's that? I only understand basic terms Im afraid, Im only any good at pulling triggers not the technical details! How do you find the 204? I've just phoned for a form to vary my fac but Im unsure of the best calibre. I was thinking of .222, .223, or the 204 just for the nv mono. I usually shoot a 22-250 but as I say I haven't shot it with the add on so dont know what it's going to be like. I only shoot fox so Im looking for advice on the best calibre for low recoil with the best stopping power for use with an add on.

That wilcox mission helmet recording system looks interesting, I can record the fox running away once I've missed it! There's certainly plenty of accessories for them monos!
-
You can use a .222, .223 etc to shoot muntjac and chinese water deer in U.K. .243 is required to shoot anything bigger roe, fallow etc etc I stand corrected!
-
I now know exactly what you mean. I have just managed to sort out the yukon mono, I've got it to focus. It's only on a 6x42 S&B but looking 150yrds was like 75yrds. I haven't shot the rifle with it on as the scope isn't zeroed but tomorrows another day and if it works I'll be looking for another mono for spotting. Derboy what calibre have you got the archer on? You've probably answered that elsewhere but Im afraid research isn't my strong point.

£200 for a lens??? I better get my trainers on and run half the distance so I dont need the magnification!!!!
-
You know what my hearts set on camo, it's not another yukon even though Im more than happy how it's turned out. How much are the 5x lenses. My eyes are not that good and the 3x on the yukon is ok but 5 that sounds much better!

UPDATE: I feel like a right T***T Let me start by saying: There was a rugby match between Wales and Scotland on tv yesterday so because I sampled one or two beers during this period my vision and judgement must somehow have become impaired So after being advised yesterday and this evening doing some researching it turns out if I could see the recticle in the scope in theory it should work. I reluctantly got the yukon back out tonight and thought I'd try once more. This time instead of the ags on the .22 I thought I'd try the S&B 6x42 on the one 22-250 which was the one that lit up yest

If you want to shoot deer in England a .243 is the lowest legal calibre.
-
That's exactly what I thought and bought a yukon, but I bought it just for spotting. After I bought it I found out it may be possible to mount it as an add on but since has been proved otherwise. So you seem quite happy with it's performance as an add on, would be nice to compare against other nv mono's.
-
Derboy which of the archers have you got? Just been looking there's a few differences in the tubes. How do these compare to the envis or pvs-14? I wish I had bought an archer now instead of my yukon as I can't use it as an add on.
-
After an evening of trying everything, screwing things in, out, putting on the scope, off the scope the 1x lens doesn't work. I had a few heart attacks because the 3x lens wouldn't work either when I put that back on. I couldn't see a thing, I tried zooming in the objective lens, zooming it out. I tried getting the eyepiece to focus. I thought I've f****d it, I shouldn't have bothered trying in the first place! ..................................................................................................................................And then my left hand touched upon the lens cap

Sorry guys Thomas Jacks were spot on! The lens fits perfectly but the fork wing thing wont focus, not on the gun, I could see the cross plain earlier but off the gun. I just tried it to see the difference in the light of the tube on and off the gun. Off the gun it wouldn't quite focus, it was like the lens needed to screw in that little bit more than it could. Anyone know of a yukon mono I can use as an add on? seen as I've got the DSA

What is the Best lamp for foxing?
sako replied to TWOTWOTHREE's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
They look rather simular! I suppose there's only so much you can do with a 100w bulb, reflective cone and a handle though. -
Yes the amp of the battery will just tell you how long the battery will last depending on as you say the drain from the lamp.If your lamp uses 7amps an hour and your battery is 12v 7amps an hour you know your lamp will last an hour. Your battery has got "lazy" you've probably left it discharged, or kept charging it without draining it fully, or left it for too long and not topped it up by charging. The light then tends to yellow. I've had batteries which would be fine for 20 mins then the lamp would go yellow but the battery would still last for a couple of hours after. If the deben mini has

Im no electrician but as long as both batteries are 12v no problem. Wouldnt like to say about the bulb, I suppose if it's that much hotter you could melt the plastic around the bulb or blow the fuse. If you need a brighter lamp just try changing the bulb and if it does kill the housing go get a deben max pro or something. You needed that brighter lamp anyway and you've got that spare bulb that burnt your last lamp

It's alot easier to have someone else holding the lamp so you can just worry about where you are going to take the shot from. If im waiting or I know where a certain problem fox is coming to, I'd rather be out alone. -

If you've got someone else to hold the lamp blitz! Dont you find the 170 scope mounted a bit on the large side? I've only tried the 140 scope mounted which was ok but I didn't like how it fitted to the gun. It seemed to put to much pressure on the scope when I'd knock it.That was 15 years ago so the mount's probably a lot different now. I've mostly got someone holding the blitz for me to shoot and it's definately better than the hand held 170 or scope mounted 140 for longer shots and brighter with filters on. If Im out alone and mostly only shooting out a couple of hundred yards I've got a d -
Now I feel Well at least anyone looking for a dedicated nv scope knows it's a genuine buy now. Sorry for the remarks about the dust, I was just making an observation. I'd heard a few things about ebay sellers not being that honest and to air on the side of caution when buying from there especially untried nv equipment. 5 hours sounds nothing which it is for a nv device but as you say if your spotting them through your mono and only switching on the nv to shoot thats plenty of shots. I'll let you off with the dust,I won't let my mrs go near my cabinets and accessories they are locked away i

Looks the part, lot of dust on the case so the scopes probably been on the gun a while. 5 hours use???? mmmm I dont know Any way I want an add on first I m not rushing into nv again!!!

You obviously know you can twist the bodywork of the lamp to change from flood to dot right? The 170 stays tight a lot futher than that. The bulb has to be set right for the optimum potential of the nightforce to. -
All you needed to do was cut the positive wire stick a female spade connector on either cut end and push in a car type fuse, 10 amp I think. Tape the connectors fuse and loose wires and just leave the top of the fuse showing to view it in case it blows. Lasted for years and never blew when I did this but the sparky will do a much better job than my Jim ll fix it!

Yes they are great lamps. personally I prefer the blitz more penetrating, tighter dot when set right for making out body shape in cover to take the long shot. all the blitz range are great lamps. A lot complain about the wiring but it's not that bad and it's simple to rewire them if needed. A dimmer switch is very handy if not essential so is a good battery.
