  1. Sooner the better then. Your going to be busy.
  2. Cheers for the replies lads, sure the dog will be ok, it's bound to happen sometimes when your out on average twice a week, and run them on any ground. Dog still caught 2 after it's incident, tough dogs the collie x's. (Didn't stop it yelping every time it moved on the way home though!) Thats the first time any of them have been injured this season.
  3. Just keep her close to start with until the sheep move away, the rabbits will occupy her, and at 12 yrs old I cannot see her worrying them. You'll know your dog better than anyone. By the way, have a good un!
  4. Al you never post anything negative, only stuff for a laugh. Some people need to lighten up a little.
  5. I'd say the same, but then you have to think about whats going to happen in a 8 weeks time when you have nothing but milky does you cannot shift, You'll just be killing a lot of rabbits for nothing. (You'll still shift the bucks.) If it was the start of the season maybee, but with only a month or so in reality till they are getting quite a few young uns in them.
  6. Been out again today, took the old man, one of the young dogs, and 2 hobs. Nothing really to report, didn't take the camera out of the truck when we set off, so only an end shot. Good to see some running today, dog probs nailed 16 of them, rest were mostly dug to. Dog got knocked up later in the day, running some heavy ground it hit a rock when it struck at the rabbit in full flight. Think it has a little rib damage so probs out for a few weeks. Poor bugger. Didn't expect to have such a good day though, so here the end shot of 26 with the old one.
  7. Yep Will. We use nets when needed, especially here!
  8. Often think what would happen if you slipped in your waterproofs there, bye bye! Always find a firm flat spot for the ferret box to sit on!
  9. Not as fit/fu##ed as the dog! He has not moved since we got back!
  10. It is quite literally breathtaking Richie!
  11. Seeing as normal folk are working hard, whilst jobless muppets (myself) are stuck at home doing nothing, I went out today, just to give you something to read, with the terrier on the ghyll side as the old one does not seem interested for some reason! (Bit too steep for the old man I think!) Took one of this years hobs which has been doing well so far, very darkly marked poley, fast as feck and he is now named the black assassin! He stops whatever he can get his teeth near, any that escape on the ghyll side are cute rabbits, they explode out of the holes, and if n
  12. Nice to see this years doing the business!
  13. Allthough it is better if they are used to other animals in the workplace, nothing worse than squabbling ferrets in the box!
  14. Nice to see the blade whirring! It's faster than the shutter of the camera! Shame about the result, but thanks for posting the pics, an honest man showing all the days out.
  15. Gloves are just a temp measure Doddsy, until they get used to being picked up. You can certainly feel a wired jill without gloves!
  16. Thanks for the replies lads. Brimmer, The shovel was an old one i had in he garage, my mate borrowed my motor and i left mine in there, but saying that i could do with one with a bit more angle on it, i hear bulldog ones are supposed to be good, i seem to remember that you mentioned you had one (maybe wrong) How do you rate them? The bulldog rabbit spades are great for shallow stuff, Maybee up to 2 and a half foot. Get any deeper and they don't have enough angle on them to lift the loose out, then you have to get your mitts in. The bulldog roundmouth/bullnose spades are ideal for t
  17. You may need to split the two brothers up as the year draws on though. Just depends on whether you can stomach a little homo/incest thing!
  18. Sorry to hear about the injury. Did she tear any muscle? Hope in a short time she will be back up and running. Hard ground and hard dogs. Doing propper work.
  19. One of them has a slight bit, but it was hooked a bit further than the jaw. It was carefully removed with the pliers, but it still went back like a rocket.
  20. Wind is not great for longnets, must have done something right to get a few!
  21. They don't live together in the wild in big forced colonies beyond kits , That's our doing.
  22. Just get gloved up to start with, it can be less painfull. Eventually the attacks will subside. Then it's time to go in with the bare hand, don't leave the tender bit's exposed, approach with a clenched fist showing the back of your knuckles only, (It's hurts less there!) Some animals will always have a 'sharp end'. Especially a fired up working animal. As they get older, they bite less with regular handling. Time's a great healer!
  23. Ferrets look sharper than the frost Magwitch! Not concerned with any colours really, but like the black eyed's, how many have you?
