  1. I am curious to know how you come to this conclusion!!? TBs are amongst the most hardy of breeds - they wouldn't be able to cope with what the racing industry throws at them if they weren't!! As for having a short working life, how do you account for the myriad of TB eventers who are in their prime from the age of 11 years old and upwards (Mark Todd's Charisma, for example) and what about the likes of Desert Orchid, Red Rum, Mr Frisk and so many more? Most TBs are injured because of what man requires of them, not because they are conformationally weak or physically unsound. Native ponies a
  2. Thanks. I'm hoping they'll be around 24" although the boy is growing fast now and may make taller than that.
  3. A picture of the two pups I had from the RIOHH litter ...... http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=115347&st=0&p=1190937&fromsearch=1entry1190937 Hope you all have happy new year and good hunting in 2010!!
  4. She's lovely!! Make sure you bring her with you if you're down this way again - I'd love to see her run
  5. Cheers I know my mate's had some posters printed so I'll make sure he's put them round the houses too. Will keep you posted
  6. Thanks, that'd be great. I don't know the area myself but I gather it's a bit steep from the name. My mate's got the coastguard looking out for him as well, in case they see him on the rocks. Doesn't really bear thinking about but it's better to know than be wondering all the time.
  7. I've posted a missing thread under the dog lost section for a friend whose springer spaniel went missing on Sunday last. I thought I'd post the link on this section as the lurcher folk who are out working or lamping might have had a sighting of him or hear something which might lead to his return. http://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=132440 Any info, no matter how small, might help get Zac back. Thank you for looking
  8. Zac went missing whilst out on a walk on Sunday 6th December in the Tregulls Beach/Steeper Point area near Padstow in Cornwall. It was very stormy and he was following a scent and never returned to his owner He is a 2.5 year old entire springer spaniel, liver and white, microchipped but unfortunately was not wearing his collar at the time. Liver/white, broad head and a good worker. Please let me know if you have any information as this is a devastating experience for the family who own Zac, just before Christmas, and the children are extremely upset. Here are a couple of picture
  9. There is always an exception to the rule, and I have seen dogs working into their teenage years as well, but generally speaking a dog which isn't allowed to grow strong before it is put to work will suffer in it's latter years from arthritis and other such skeletal related disorders. Worth remembering that a dog will avoid showing pain as this would be a weakness in the wild and the weakest can be culled out in a pack situation. Us humans might think they are ok, but they will continue to work on despite severe pain and sometimes without our knowledge because it is their instinct to do so
  10. Nice bitch, good luck with finding the right home for her
  11. You shouldn't even be thinking of making a pup jump until it's at least a year old and the bones are strong and fixed in their place! It may seem as though they can do it, but it will shorten their useful active life by years!!!
  12. The little chap's only 6 weeks old isn't he - very young to be coping with being alone in a kennel. Dogs are pack animals and he's been taken away from his mum very young so he's lonely and scared and that's probably why he's crying. My whippets live in the house and have access to the bedrooms if they want - they've never made a sound at night because they feel part of the pack. And that's the human pack as well as the doggy one lol My lurcher pups live outside but they have each other for company (as well as heat lamp, furry blankets and plenty of food)and they come in the house du

  16. Can't thank you enough for all the helpful advice

  17. Here's a few short videos of my two lurcher pups having a play, they will be 10 weeks old next Monday. The little black boy, Tiny Tim, is right on for the lure and doesn't want to give it up easily. Reckon he takes after his dad. I'll put some more photos up when I get some time to upload them to photobucket Thanks for looking folks
  18. Give Lisa a call at Greyhound Gap on 07917 422489 They will arrange transport too
  19. All very nice but the brindle gets my vote
  20. Thanks! I've been feeding them 6 times a day, high protein only (chicken, lamb mince, egg, cheese, ham and smoked sausage (!!) for flavour, some lamb liver, goat's milk with cod liver oil) and they have some small lamb knuckle bones to chew on too if they want. Thought I would introduce carbs slowly, maybe some rice, in a week or so? The amount of weight gain is rather unusual because they had room to gain - especially little Tim as he hadn't been eating much before.
  21. Over the last year, my beautiful black rescue lurcher, Poacher, has introduced me to the wonderful sport of lurcher racing, hurdling and coursing and because of her success and enjoyment I decided to bring on a pup for the future. I watched for many weeks and finally a litter was born which, in my opinion, had the credentials to compete and enjoy a bit of work too as I have my own land which is overrun with rabbits. I booked my pup from RIOHH's litter, the pretty brindle girl, when she was only a couple of weeks old and went to collect her last Friday. Whilst I was there I took a look
  22. 78.2% in favour now :clapper:
  23. Poor wee dog Good job you've got him now I'd worm him with Panacur or Milbemax - they do lungworm as well as the other sorts. Drontal doesn't get rid of lungworm. They get lungworm/heartworm from eating or licking areas where slugs or snails have been - should imagine your little dog has probably had to eat off the ground or out of dirty bowls so he could be suffering from it. You never know until the infestation is so bad that it makes them cough. Good luck with him, he's a nice sort
