If the misses would of let me have two he would be coming home with me as well. Who ever has him is going to be well pleased. John.

    dog as a dinner

I think its not a good idea to tell other cultures their rong but I do struggle with eating dogs. Watched a program a while back on the illegal fur trade and part of it was in China and they had dogs stuffed up in cages so they couldn't move, piled high on a truck and they just kicked the cages off. A bit later they skinned a dog alive due to the fact the fur was supposed to be better. It was all very disturbing. I belive in preserving cultures but I also belive in progression of respect for the better of all living things. I have spent a bit of time in Bali and to see how they treat dogs out
  10. Nice one Hippychick, thats exactly the sort of info i was hoping for. Can see the sense in what your saying and yes terrier would be used to bush for lurcher.
  11. Intresting, but would rather have one of each, would like a JRT or JRT cross but not with a gryhound and as far as lurchers go im not sure what would be best for the area i live in but im sure that plenty lads and lasses on here living in North East could advise me on that one.
  12. Will be for rats and rabbits mainly mate.
  13. Im planning on getting a pup in Febuary and it will be my first working dog, I intend on having a lurcher and a terrier eventualy but i do not know which to get first as I only whant to be bringing one dog on at a time. I know which types I want but just not sure what first, seems to be a lot of people on here with both so thought I would ask what you thought. Merry Xmas, Cheers
  14. I just got a 3x9-40 JS Ramsbottom for £49 and its spot on.
  15. Great looking pups, exactly what I been looking for, just wish it was a couple month later. Wife goes on maternity leave in Feb so gotta hang on until then. Would of loved one of them little fellas.
  16. Thanks everyone, seems to be an strong following for CZ and I have had a bit of a look on line and as far as cost goes and value for money I must admit it looks like the right choice for me and def a bolt action. Just gotta get that license now and happy days
  17. I have read a bit about the finfire, am i right in thinking they no longer produce them? not that i will be buying new. Also, what are the advantages of a short barrel and if i find a good gun with a longer barrel is it straight forward enough to have it shortened and is it expensive. Im aware of the importance of a good scope, the one on my air rifle is rubbish so I know whats on my xmas list. Cheers.
  18. It would be good to try a few at the club so will take advice and ask, plenty of dif types there. Looks like the CZ is a popular make so will check them out along with the Ruger. Cheers all.
  19. I have just joined a shooting club after buying an air rifle with the intention of shooting some bunnies. New to hunting so thought it would be good to learn to shoot first before trying to find permission. I would like to purchase a 22 after my probation period and also when I have a licence (obviously). I know very little, well no knowledge of rifles and would like recomendation on which gun to start with and weather to look at bolt actions or semi's. Am happy to buy second hand and would like to keep it under £300. Any advice welcome. Cheers
  20. Imsure the Uni has a shooting club and there is a club called St Giles Yarners close to the uni you can google both for numbers.
  21. Hi All, Im trying to locate reputable breeders in the North East, I live in between Durham and Newcastle but more than happy to travel anywhere. I am looking for Patterdale/ Fell type pup with good blood lines. This would be my first working terrier and in line with that I am also trying to find a working terrier club if there is such a thing in order to make sure I get it right and learn a thing or two. Very excited at the prospect of training and working my first terrier, always had dogs but mainly gun dogs and Staffs. Would like to follow up with a lurcher once I've got the terrier and mys
  22. Thanks Buster, thats great info, insurance sounds like a good idea and will def get that sorted. I guess I better dust my tie of and start knoking on some doors. Cheers mate, John.

  24. Hi All, I need pointing in the right direction if any one has the time. I am a total novice to all hunting and keen to take it up. I am particularly interested in Patterdale/ Fell terriers. I have read several books on the breed and am fully aware of the importance of buying from good working stock and have a list of good blood lines from the books I have read but I have no idea were to go from there . I live in the north east and have been trying to find terrier clubs in the hope that some one might show me the ropes but have found only clubs for show dogs. I have also purchased an air rifle
