The own brand economy beef mince sounds like a more economical choice, think I'll av nip and get some. Need to stock a bit of variety up, she had 5 kits on Monday

I think the Beef and Lamb were about 14-15% but I'm not totally sure. You couldn't use it to purely feed a dog it'd cost a fair bit but for a Fert its ideal. Just buy a few packs n chuck em in the freezer.

I've just bought some Turkey Mince for working dogs from Pets at Home. 18% Protein and no additives or cereal, I'll feed it alongside dry ferret biscuits plus the odd egg. I reckon it'll be ok but just wondering about other peoples opinions (helpful ones) or does anyone else use it? Its only 75p a packet and I give a bit to the pup aswell. They do Beef and Lamb aswell but its not as high in Protein.

I had a knock at the door yesterday morning. A bloke from down the road enquiring if I'd got a Ferret. I said yes and he asked if it'd escaped. I'd been to feed her that morning but not seen her assuming she was asleep. After a quick check "Well, I did have a Ferret". She'd managed the usual Ferret trick of exploiting a very small oversight in the cage construction. Then escaped the lean-to on the back of the house (a far less difficult task). The bloke from down the road had let his dog out of the conservatory into the back garden and in wandered an inquisitive little Ferret. He then

We never did catch the fox, got a bloke in to check a few of the dens we found and he told us they were empty. No trouble since so only two lambs worth of damage. Nobody had any success with the box traps. All the lambs are now big enough to fend for themselves so I reckon that's it until next year. Thanks for everyones' help and offers of assistance.

Cheers, great link and a new website for my favourites list. I didn't realise this was a law... "No game (including hare) may be shot in any county on any Sunday or on Christmas day"

What are the seasons for different quarry? A couple of lads come shooting ducks early on every year down our spot but disappear about February time. Just wondered what the seasons actually are.

Why do people refer to some Ferrets as Pole Cats?
RWDSteve replied to RWDSteve's topic in Ferrets & Ferreting
Thanks guys, I was sure the ones with markings on were refered to as Pole Cat types. Thanks for the bonus information all the way from Holland too Time to put my clever dick mate in his place! -
Over the years I've heard people sometimes refer to Ferrets as Pole Cats. I googled it and all I could find was that Pole Cats are the wild versions of Ferrets. While a mate of mine reckons Albino's are Pole Cats... So what's the real answer?

Sometimes these forums really can be quite annoying. I type in a search to do some research on the whole Ferreting scene in order to make myself a more responsible, knowledgeable, owner and end up sifting through masses of silly bickering. This thread contains some great advice its a pity it gets clogged up (along with MANY others) with so much bull. My first rant! Is this how it starts?

Patterdale freaks out after excercise, ideas?
RWDSteve replied to blaev's topic in Working Dog Health & Training Talk
My lurcher pup was doing the same this evening and I thought it must be nettles due to his little pink belly I washed him with cool water, he wasn't amused at first but seems to have settled now. Just thought I'd search "nettles" on here to investigate a bit further. These forums really are handy! -

Is it the same stuff you spray on lambs navels and sheep's feet when you've peared their feet? Might help you if you go to an agricultural supplier

I know its a possibility and its easy to start pointing fingers. Its just with the amount of cats that went down during that week it seemed very suspect, there are a few odd-bods up here If it was somebody doing it on purpose we won't find out now.

Cheers guys There's no point in me having a run. The garden is quite big and dog proofed, and he lived in the house. The village I live in is only one row of houses and under normal circumstances letting him play round the back while I'm about wouldn't be considered a problem. Think whoever did it was probably just after cats. Won't take the risk again mind. He got plenty of exercise and like I say I almost always had him with me whenever possible, being self-employed I can take a dog with me most of the time. I bought another pup off here last week. young Burt the Blue-Eyed Boy

Just thought I'd put this post up so that anyone else who might get these symptoms stands a chance of saving their dog. About a month ago I'd been out round the back of my house changing a wheel on the car while my 9 month old pup Alfie (Whippet x Beddi) was messing around in the field and routing up and down the lane. I finished the job and went shopping with the pup in the car with me. An hour later on my way back home Alfie would twitch now and again, kicking a back leg out or shaking his head. I carried on home so I could have a proper look at him. He seemed to walk around the hou

What IS the legal view on using Terriers? Is there any way round the "Hunting with Dogs" ban?

Lamping/shooting vixens at this time of year LEAVES CUBS TO STARVE,what dont you understand about that???????????? I've had a word with my Dad about what you've said about the cubs getting left to starve and we're going to ask around a few people we know. See if we can get a known Terrier man in, I agree that its the more humane way (if you can call it that). I don't want to sound ungrateful for the PM's offering to come sort the problem but Farmer's can be a bit funny about people they don't know wandering around with Guns and Dogs especially during the lambing season. Thanks for the o

I'm just in the process of buying a Lurcher pup and I remember being told that you're best introducing dogs to ferrets and vice versa when they're young. All I want to know really is that is this right and has anyone got any tips on doing it? Is it as easy as just handling the ferret with the pup sat next to you? I know this might be a daft question but I had a look through the FAQ's and didn't see any mention of it. Cheers for any advice Steve

We've had a box trap down for couple of days but the only thing we've caught so far is a lamb As for grabbing hold of a cornered fox.... I've got a mate who was savaged by a rat after accidentally cornering it while cleaning out a shed (I haven't made that up either) so I won't be trying to grab hold of a fox. We'll try the trap for a week I reckon if you lads think that's the best way for now, we're fetching the sheep in at night at the moment but can't keep doing that. The only trouble with getting someone in to look for the den is that its most likely on somebody elses land so
