  1. Was out today with the Pup doing a bit of retrieve training in some woods when i noticed him showing interest in a hole.. Now the Pup was NO way encouraged to do this,as something like that would do more harm than GOOD. He just did it naturaly, finding the Hole himself and then showing the mark. All i did was stand and observe and wait until he came away by himself. I didn't make a big deal of it or give him any praise,I just walked away with a bit of a smile on my face encouraged myself by what id just seen. All the good ferreting Dogs that ive seen in the past have always shown in

  3. Feck me ......he looks like that guy from star trek [spock?] Well done lads ....keep killing them fecking maggies
  4. Learner.... best wishes to the youngster mate! I tell you what mate... sometimes when i click on forums and see posts that seem to go on forever,i find myself sought half reading them and just scrolling through them.Reading them, but not reading them if you know what i mean?. I dont know what it is about yours though, because i just cant do that. Might be down to a matter of RESPECT i suppose, which nowadays unfortunately some people find hard to understand. Keep doing what you do mate and enjoying it at the same time! All the best...lamps
  5. If i remember right CC, Drum wasn't directly out of James's Dogs. He was out of a Bitch that was out of a Bitch by a Dog that was bred by James. Sorry but i dont know which one it was though. Went out with the Drum dog on many occassions and enjoyed Tonys company, though Tony could be a bit too much of a perfectionist sometimes and was obsessive with facts.... When he asked about a pup of mine once and i gave hime the breeding,he went onto inform me that according to his calculations i should be expecting an 17% increase on her speed by the time she was fully matured . AQ strange Guy but
  6. Excellent phopts Learner...the pup looks a cracker Although your pup looks like he carries a nice bit of coat,i cant but think how much he reminds me of the "DRUM" Dog. Almost identicle in the markings. For me also a couple of hours mooching with your dog and an unexpected catch means alot more than the big bags gained on rabbit infested land. Youd probably still catch a few without a Dog on this type of land anyway, but the one pulled "Out of a hat"....well to me thats a bonus. keep up the good work learner and keep learning.. All the best,......Lamps
  7. Excellent job......... Breeze.....i hope you aint gonna put it up on the wall in Place of the one of me Lamps......
  8. Thanks for the reply lads So far Smally the signs have been good mate!. He seems to have the right attitude and is always willing to please. For a Pup of only 13 wks he has a good attention span which is always a good thing when you start there training. His recall is good and he can be distracted from whatever hes up to with it, though when hes playing with the ferrets he will still keep one eye on them just to see what there up to. Hes sitting first time and ive had him jumping a small board ive set up for him. Its at about 18" now and he has no problems with it,even when carrying
  9. Many of you who know me, will know that the season just gone seen me loose my Good lurcher bitch Seren. She died totaly unexpected during a nights lamping expedition. I was left totaly gutted with what happened and it took ages to get the incident out of my head. It left me thinking long and hard about where i was gonna go from now on?. Being a realist i knew i needed to make sure the next dog i aquired would most suit the type of hunting i do most. Although i enjoyed hunting all quarry, most of my hunting is in the pursuit of the humble bunny. This is mostly with the use of ferrets, and nets. T

  20. Went ferreting today at a riding stables where i keep the rabbits under control. As usual a couple of reprebates going by the name of Breeze and Old Man of the Woods were accompanying me. We never had the best of starts to the Day. Breeze hit a cock Pheasant in his car on the way, which took his wing mirror right off ,smashing it to bits . Theres not so many Rabbits as there used to be in these paddocks this winter. Mind You, that might be because late last summer and early Autumn i had the pleasure of introducing some of them to the Falcon . First warren produced a good catch for pe
  21. The "Old man of the Woods" nearly lost one of his Stinkers today. We were ferreting some thick hedgerows when it slipped out of a unseen hole and started making its way along the Ditch bottom. The Old Man being the type he is was straight in there after it, no messing . Anyway a couple of minutes later he appears looking a bit worse for ware.... "God knows where that feckers gone " he says "I know its around here somewhere though?.....I can smell it !" Lamps..
  22. Well done Woody........ i love woodland ferreting....The Bumping always seems louder when your crouched down antisipating a bolt when amongst some trees, dont you think? Next thing you hear is the the crash of leaves of a bolting Rabbit.....unfortunately its usualy from a Hole that youve missed All the best.......Lamps
