  1. Thank you jart. We all have our reasons for the choices that we make with regards to the breeding of our dogs. This maybe staminia, straight line speed, turning speed, inteligence, coat and the finnish with regards to the quarry you intend to hunt. It's all just personal choice. ANYWAY have you got your pup yet? If you have can I see a pic of it? So chuffed with my pups first bunny. Great feeling to know that all the training should pay off.
  2. Thank F**K for that i was starting to worry. Who's Phillip King
  3. i like the look of him hows he bred Hi Steve, he's a bitza. Sire was 3/4 grey and 1/4 whippet. Dam was 1/2 grey,1/4 collie,1/8 whippet and 1/8 deerhound. So predominantly grey with just about everything else that you could stuff in with the exception of saluki and bull. Didn't want any bull in him as I used to own an English bull and now have young kids and since he lives indoors didn't want to take any risks. How do you know your not taking a risc with the bitsa? What a thing to say!! Well Having seen first hand what a fully grown adult male English bull is capable of wh
  4. Doesn't matter who you buy it from. Just buy one. I've had mine for three seasons and just about to start the fourth. Wouldn't change for anything else. SUPERB.
  5. Well done mate. Whilst training my pup I taught he to retieve a ball and as soon as he picked up the ball I squeaked like a rabbit for his recall. That way upon hearing a squeak he came to me. Worked for me, give it a go. Anyway best of luck.

  8. Lads I SALUTE you. Fair play. Hope the dogs OK though.
  9. Cheers mate. Yes great feeling and I know that now I'll have to just keep him keen with just a single run every couple of weeks or so on easy looking bunnys. Will look at incresing this once he's a year old in march when the young bunnys start to appear.

  11. Cheers mate, just put a post up this evening. Caught his first bunny this evening, not planned just opertunity presented itself and it looked like a promissing run for a youngster. Cheers Paul
  12. Cheers lads. Any advice very welcome.
  13. Cheers Jordy. He's my first lurcher. My brother used to run a couple of dogs a few years ago and that gave me the bug. Could have bought a made up dog but decided to have a go training my own. Worth every minute I've put in to him. Self restraint the problem now.
  14. Took him out last friday to let him see a few. Gave him two short runs just to see if he was keen. Unfortunatly he missed both. Took him out for his normal walk this evening and he saw the flash of tail and let him go, caught it after 70yds and a couple of turns. Straight back to hand alive and un-munched, all that training seams to have paid off. Just got to restrain myself now as he is only seven months tomorow, I'll just give him a short run every other week until he's one. I was like a dog with two d**ks let alone him.
  15. Hi mate, what age did you start running him at? Got a 7 month old myself and wondering when to start him and how often.
  16. I'm new to lurchers myself and very green on the subject so I'm sure there are plenty of people that know better than me. My thoughts when I first got my lurcher four months ago was to bond with it and start to get it retrieving. Bonding no problem. Retrieving was another thing. I'd throw the ball and he'd just look at me as if to say, if you wanted it then why the f**k did you throw it then. Started taking him out with a labrador, natural retriever. Job sorted. The labrador has no other interest when out but chasing and retrieving, so if the lurcher wanted to join in the he had to chase and r
  17. Cheers boys for the kind comments, the blue dog was bred by me and thats his dam he is with. The brindle bitch is a mix which includes 1/4 bull, minshaw, collie, saluki and greyhound. The blue dog is out of my old bullgrey eric put to the brindle bitch. The blue dog is slightly less than 1/4 but has thrown pretty strong, having said this he can motor a bit. As for the foxes they were taken on full permission in County Wexford on the beautiful emerald isle.cheers wex Thanks mate. He is a cracker. I'm over in Ireland once a year or so as my wifes from Navan, we also have a lot of relatives in D
  18. That is two seriously smart dogs there mate. The grey one in particular. What's it's breeding and how old is is? And who bred it? I'm in awe.
  19. Had the same dilema myself two years ago. Mature buck with deformed antler. Upon closer inspection the scull was all infected around the correnet. I stalked him for nearly two hours whilst he went from stand to stand being pushed about by the other bucks. Just too painfull to fight. But he never stopped trying. The will to breed I supose. Anyway when I did get the shot it was very satisfying to see him on the ground when I could have taken the greedy option and had any of his counterparts. Right decision mate, keep making them and you'll feel good about what you do every time you pick up the
