  1. I used to do alot of working terrier show judging at hunt/game fairs and its nice to see the pics that B&T put up. When judging you dont know if the terrier is a great worker or not, but I always look for working scars, missing teeth, etc first, except of course puppy class. I dont judge these days - cause I got heavily condemned for doing so. Especially from the ladies!! Arguments in the ring, etc. But as I always told them - it's a working terrier show!!!
  2. The reason that I put this post up, was to enquire about other working Borders i.e digging dogs, and the men that work them. I would like to know if anyone else works Levi's line or Oxcroft or even Feneroli's lines. I have dug to my bitch on numerous occassions, the longest being over 3 hours. I also know that Levi's line throws true to type and are grafters. So come on all of you hardcore border men, defend them - and breed worker to worker!! Let's not let the working border die, I know that their are small pockets of men that work them hard.
  3. If this is the only dog of that line, then I would use it. He is a gene pool, and is carrying all that you want in his blood. Alot of old breeders used to put a few puppies to pet homes, so they could always go back and use them if they had to. Good Luck!
  4. I'd like to begin this new topic by saying that Gary Middleton is a good friend of mine, and has been for the last 30 years or so. Myself, D.Roberts, R.Walker, G.Allott and B.Flemming, all had Gary's line of terriers, and at various times had a white pup in our litters, from black & tan parents. This was back in the late 70's and mid 's. I believe this was due to in-breeding. In the early to mid 's, on one of my many visit's to Gary, a smooth pedigree Fox Terrier dog was running around in his yard, a cheeky little thing as Gary discribed him( I think it was owned by people staying in o
  5. Nuv, where did you get your Borders? Thanks The Breeder.

  6. There are good borders out there its just with them fetching crazy prices there is more people breeding for the ££££££ rather than working . Its the same with the choc patts and in a few years they will start going the same way as the border and Bedlington . The Breeder how can you tell from a dog by looking at him if hes any good ? As I said, if you pick a good working border stud dog, that has worked for 4 season's, the dog should have working scars i.e. missing teeth, etc, etc, remembering the Border was bred for Otter and Fox control, to go in and if it's quarry refused to bolt
  7. Not sure what you mean mate, of course we know Levi is dead, but his line still continue's. The Breeder
  8. I had to travel over 300 miles to breed my Border bitch, if you look hard enough you will find a good stud dog. But the same old thing, don't believe everything your told - pick a dog about 5 year old and just by looking at him, you'll know if the dogs any good. If your buying a pup, don't buy unless your sure there from working parents. Hopefully this website will bring genuine working Border dogs to genuine working Border bitches.
  9. With all due respect lads I hear a lot about Patterdales, Lakies and Russells. But what about the Border! I was the same as most of you, I didn't go much on Borders. I bred Lakies (Middleton strain) for 30 years and still do, however 3 years ago I picked up a Border bitch (Levy Oates/Ray Walker) and what an excellent little bitch she is. She started early, and at 11 months old seen her first Fox (very shallow dig, so not to spoil her). She's gone from strength to strength and i've had some very good digs with her. Would like to hear your opinions about what you think and experiences yo
  10. I've bred Middleton terriers for the past 30 years and I think alot of people shun the man, but a great deal of respected digging men went to him for dogs and i've been on the digs when they do the business. The old line is still about, ive got proof in my kennels, I dont show them, but there are smart terriers. And above all they are game!!
