  1. This dog was 1st x collie/greyhound X saluki/greyhound,bought in 1984 in nottingham at a game fair..his grandsire was Merle ,Plummers dog...he was one of the best if not the best ive ever had,he took very decent bags of rabbits night after night when the conditions were in.retrieved pheasant like a gun dog and every rabbit alive to hand..he took many fox single handed and was an all round great dog...i believe the mix of saluki was highly beneficial to his make up,long nights of graft with 40 plus rabbits at the time were not uncommon..i was very proud of that dog i must say
  2. would it be accurate to say colliejohn that certain types of ground would not be suitable for your dogs then....would you be limited to the type of ground your dogs could work on,,ie open ground and short grassy fields would not be the type of ground you prefer....
  3. my god what a similarity lol...it was a shame we put him to sleep when you think back, the dog was mad for fox but poor on rabbits,he caught them with ease but had no real interest when they didnt bite back,we had no real interest in fox back then other than digging the terriers ,We were full up of rabbits though and that was our main focus with lurchers back then
  4. Heres a dog my mate had in the early 90's...from a collie bitch and a greyhound stud...he was a savage on the foxes...but lost interest on rabbits shortly after.he would catch them on the lamp and retrieve them but when you tried to take the rabbit he'd drop it and it would run away unharmed...we ran mostly rabbits so he was pts over it...but the foxes he did take, and they were many,he really went all out on them...and taking punishment was no issue with him
  5. lets broaden the search....IS THERE ANY IN THE WHOLE PLANET THAT COULD GRAFT AS A TERRIER SHOULD.lol

  7. Not at all, I find that type of topic informative, might help you to understand the inner works of the dogs we keep.... Did you bother reading it? Cant believe you wouldn't find it interesting
  8. which is why the dedicated wheaten fans kept adding english bull and pit bul blood to the breed to keep em mean and keen i believe
  9. eddie we can presume they were off shoots of the irish rough or wheaten terrier type,..they probably had their uses but in fairness, even the older ones in that film never went to ground ,and probably were not bred to either,,basic vermin controllers and guard dogs..to give them the benefit of the doubt we will for prosperity sake declare they were good for some form of hunting ,,but even the wheaten had a great deal of bull terrier blood added to give them that extra ooomph and keep them top of the tree at their task,,the kerry blue never had i would think which is why they slipped down the ev
  10. just about sums the useless b*****ds up lol
  11. poor oul michael got a raw deal for sure ,as for his dog(of which i never heard of) what was he famous for?...id hazard a guess it wasnt vermin control anyway lol..how the fuk did these silly rumours start anyway ,ive dug with some very well known terrier men in years gone by and went up and down the country meeting lots of good (and at times not so good )terrier lads and none..NOT ONE ...ever had even a partially bred blue ,,and believe me if they could have crossed crocodiles with dogs to make better workers ,these guys would have gone to the four corners of the country to get them...i cant
  12. But..i thought this was interesting ,and might be of some help to understand how dogs fight the cold https://www.dailydogdiscoveries.com/tag/how-dogs-stay-warm/
  13. could some one come on here and honestly say they actually saw a kerry work either in a stop end or in any situation where true gameness was visible ..from all the people ive mixed with over the years,none...AND I MEAN NOT ONE ...has ever seen a decent kerry blue ..i saw a vid of a kerry put up against a wheaten in the box way back in the late 70's and the kerry didnt last 2 minutes(literally) the wheaten was taken from the kerry ,which i might add was screaming for mercy and as soon as the kerry was released it jumped the wall..i dont think a blue was ever used for anything other than a few r
