  2. i spent the best part of this year walking round a moor shooting or netting bolted rabbits and some days just for a change i take the lurchers or setting traps and snares , i have to put up with midges and heat and beautiful surroundings, its not nice out there doing the job you love and getting paid a small fortune for the it, pest control , who would eh ?

    Les White,

didnt he have a terrier whippet x ? wonder what happened to the other writers, dergi , george hogg, warrener lol, you don,t hear of most of them now, wasn,t there a bloke called bill lloyd or summat aswell ?
  5. must be all my coaching mapreader
  6. every year i loose moles and traps to badgers and the occasional fox , the foxes usually just roll on the body , but alot of times the badgers eat them and leave me a bloody trap
  7. In that case, I would snare them where they come out of the brush. ATB Michael don,t set snares where there is livestock , set your traps well down the holes and it will not be a problem , if it makes you feel better , place a stone or the like over the hole ,once you set your traps , only trouble is you will only get rabbits trying to come out and this time of year , around 50 % of your catch will be entering.
  8. i have had about 6 in the last 20 years, 3 of them were from within a few hundred yards , had a brown one and a couple with white bits on em , got one last year with a white dot on its head and a white patch on its belly, catch a few silvers ?? ( whiteish under fur and dark tips )most years , .......i,m still alive ....and i don,t believe in old wives tales cos i,m not an old wife
  9. i have a mask made from a picture of you to turn the grouse

  10. i work 99 % for farmers and estates , its badly paid and bloody hard work , but i love it, if you specialise in something , trapping moles , trapping rabbits etc , you will get the work, i work for places that have plenty of lads on that rabbit for free , but cos they aint getting paid , they don,t put in the effort a pro would, but you will need qualifications and the best way is like the lads say working for the big companies , get them to put you thru the courses , gain some experience , then go for it,
  11. you two should ba ashamed of yourselves , i catch more than that in an hour , amateurs
  12. had a few doubles on young rats and a few doubles on young rabbits , also had a stoat and young rabbit and a weasel and mouse together , its very probable that the stoat and weasel were carrying their own victims, once had a full grown hare in a mk4 in a metal pipe that was only just big enuff for the trap, perfect head catch and very little mess of the hare
  13. there is no law that says traps have to be checked twice a day, i think you will find its once a day
  14. Eh? Fieldcraft? So where can I buy a few kilos of fieldcraft then? i thought you would be in the market for bikecraft ?
  15. netrigger , is this a recent mag article or an old copy ?
  16. i think there is an art to most things , wether its snaring, netting or singing and dancing , as for it being common sense well most of it is if you know what your doing and are well practiced in the arts, i think a little respect is in order and a lot less of the silly girl school name calling, we can all learn something of everyone and credit to those willing to spend thier time and effort in helping others less experienced
  17. i have heard some good sounds off starlings mimmiking other birds, not as good as that one tho
  18. i have shot a single and cannot remember how quiet it was , but the full length moderator will probably make a slight difference
  19. got a 3 shot hushpowerd mossberg pump action 410, love it
  20. there were some advertised in the countrymans weekly a while back , might be worth giving them a ring, i think they were about £70 odd for 5 , plastic ends and chicken mesh body, i don,t think they would take alot to make , you just need someone with a welder and willing, the main body could still be made from chicken mesh, havn,t used them myself , but i could see them being handy on a roadside or like mt said ,working on ya own, but you wouldn,t want to be carrying too many
  21. 112 one day , two of us, done 72 twice last year on me own, one of the most enjoyable days was me and me mate ferreting a wood , had 10 and worked for everyone, it,s not the bag that counts unless you getting paid and you gotta be on ground that has plenty of rabbits
  22. just a couple of pointers here james, you have to have public liability insurance to join the npta , and to get public liability you have to be trained in the use of poisons and traps, my insurer wanted to know what poisons and type of traps i use and where i use them(domestic ,agriculture etc) before they would give me insurance give us a bit of credit , 400 hills ,most pro molemen will see christ knows how many thousands of mole hills in the couse of a week
