  4. mainly rabbits on the lamp, alot of woodland an orchards where i am,there are open fields but not that big so there will be alot of daytime hunting aswell,i have also got permission for 5 cricket pitches to clear of rabbits, just managed a pic of my greyhound lacey.

  7. just taken on a so called failed racer but from what i can make out the trainer has lost interest and couldnt be arsed, she apparently loses concentration but is plenty quick enough.she is 2 yrs old and has been with us for 4 days ,i intend to try her in the field, took her out this morning and she baged a bunny straight off ,unintended i might add as i am not one for hunting out of season but so far so good and i can confirm she is deffinately quick enough, like shite of a shovel also can anyone tell me an average height for a bitch mine is 26"tts she looks huge to me.
  8. have just taken on a 2 yr old greyhound, trainer couldnt be arsed to put the work in as she lacks a bit of concentration, thinkin of putting my collie across her but he keeps getting agressive,in the garden and out, never had this problem before and the collie gets on ok with all outher dogs the only thing i can think of is her size she is 26"tts and he is only 20"tts could he be intimidated by her,any advice greatly accepted from you old and wizend hunters.
  9. been workin dogs for 20 yrs or so with my old man so i think i will be ok,just never had a collie grey and wanted to know what they was like
  10. not getting rid of my pup im getting another gonna bring them on together for a deadly duo
  11. can always remember the old man using a blade of grass between his thumbs to call the foxes in
  12.  spot on that although as you said they need attention as there kind of a clingy breed if thats the word. had one and she was soft as shit till she was taken out the kennels by some fuker..(another story) its probably the classic of breed for a lurcher in my opinion a good all rounder. should take most if not all quarry.but i found having the collie in there you need to keep them occupied often. and as for jumping mine pissed 5 iron gates.FOR A FIRST AND LONG LASTING FRIEND GET IT MATE IF YOU KNOW THERE FROM WORKING STOCK THATS A BONUS.... KEEP US IN THE LOOP MAT
  13. have been on the lookout for a new dog and have just been offerd a 1st cross collie greyhound,i trust the breeder and know it is a true 1st cross out of two good dogs, but are they anygood or should i look for a more indepth bred dog.
  14. the only comfort is that she was doing something she loved and had a good life in a good home ,just wish all dogs were as fortunate in life as bella,r.i.p
  15. i have a 6 year old greyhound bitch and would like to put my colliexhuntaway across her, would you say she was to old,she is in excellent health and a great dog.
  16. i get pet mince from my local butcher for the ferrets, but am planning to introduce it into my pups diet, its full of meat obviouslyand all the old crap like arteries, tendons, grissle and fat going to slowly mix it with his regular grub .as for the heart did anyone see the wolfman on tv a bloke living with a pack of wolves and he was the alfa male but to do so he had to take the main organs from the road kill and outher stuff he fed them and eat himself to remain top dog.so surely in the wild one animal would regularly have a feast of heart and liver with no ill effects.
  17. cheers, advice and comments taken on board, hope i havent offended.
  18. managed to scruff a rabbit out of a woodpile yesterday,so i took it out into the open with my pup and gave him a go,after a chase of 50-60 yds or so the rabbit found cover and pup came back with a mouthfull of flick, not bad for 4 months old what do you think.a wise move or not as ive always started my dogs at about 8 months.

  21. just asked my old man he reckons you can never really judge a dog on breed alone,he once had an irish setter that took the odd hare, and was a demon for foxes so give him a try you never know your luck, all the best.
