  1. How do people work their dogs and ferrets together? How do they get on? My jrt plays with em in the yard and will take them biting her and chewing on her without a sound, but I my bull wheaten greyhound, who is broken to ferrets but not worked with them met my new hob kit today. Who promptly bit the dog on the nose after that the dog started to run off when ferret came near haha so much for a tough bull cross. Good for ferreting dog to avoid them I suppose and the jrt is super friendly and marks them in holes and marks kills etc. just be interesting to know , how do our dogs get on w
  2. How big did your sandy get? Bloke I got it off said on the phone the jill is albino but the hob is polecaty, quite dark. I got lucky, have poleys, albino and sandy now. would like som bew eventually, and silvers look good too. But a good ferret never a bad colour, right?
  3. Looking for an albino jill for start of season, finally found one and ended up taking a hob I didn't need to do th ebloke a favour, Glad I did he a funny bugge, and lovely colour
  4. The dog isn't agrressive with people, just tries to be dominate over those she can be, she is really friendly as a rule. I am more worried that if my nipper was in the garden or toddling through the yard something would happen. The last fight happened in the yard was over 2 new ferrets I got, the terrier cross was looking at them and the jrt had a leave em alone they are mine attitude and it kicked off. It was in the process of seperating them that my terrier cross got injured and this is the main reason I am worried because I know my wife couldn't seperate them, and my daughter could get caug
  5. hard as it is, i'm rehoming her. just making sure it's a good home. My daughter is sitting on my knee now and I know I couldn't take the risk. Thanks for all the advise
  6. Maybe borrow your bulldogs for an hour then to fix it haha It's not so much that my wife backs away in fear, more she's not paying the dog that much attention, like my wife will be heading towards the fridge and the dog will lift her head, the wife gets what she wanted from fridge then walks away again. Not really thinking about what happened and the dog thinks it won. Dog at other times is the softest friendliest thing you could imagine, but if food is around its a problem then. Wifes friends 2 year old was in the house looking out back door at dogs, and food bowl is outside door, wee jrt s
  7. This one is good with the lurcher, but has a thing against the collie. I have a terrier cross that she normally leaves alone but when they do start they start. From all I have read I don't think I can do much with her. I knew the litter sister of my bitch and she had a similar temperament, so it must just be in the strain of them. She is 100% with me but tries to push my wife around, and we caught her yesterday trying to take a toy of my toddler. So I don't want to take any chances, and can't pen her, so think it's re homing time. Thanks for all the advise.
  8. Thought that myself, until someone pointed out that she was only bad around season times. just a bit yappy at other times. Thought that maybe there was a link, and if she was spayed and never in season then the problem might lift. Sounds logical. but don't know if it would play that way.
  9. £10 i do it my self. do you buy the vaccine yourself then? and maybe you could put us onto it?
  10. Thanks for the reply, sorry to seem like I'm messing around, but i have been told that getting her spayed may help with the problem. I am looking into that at the moment to see if it's a path worth trying, as I said I really don't want to sell this dog, and if getting her spayed will help I shouldn't have to. I am finding out information about it now, but if it turns out that it isn't going to help I will get in touch with you immediately. Apologies again for mucking about but i hadn't been told this before I posted.
  11. Thanks, if I was to get her spayed after this season, and before her next, would it then help to reduce the problem? Before hormones started in again? Know it's not the same as male aggression, but will try anything rather than rehome the dog.
  12. does anyone here have any experience in this. I have been told that getting my 3 and a half year old jrt bitch spayed may take away her want to fight with the other dogs, all bitches of different types. She is always fighty when she in season and coming out of it, and it is getting worse with age, as she has 2 seasons a year at the minute its hard work. Has come to the point that she may have to get rehomed if I cant fix it. Was told this may help, wondering if it was worth a go. Any experience?
  13. I have a wee type jrt bitch, about 10"tts for sale. Really reluctant sale. Dog is started working well with ferrets, and very biddable. Retrieves rabbit dummy etc. I got her for ferreting, but havent done as much as i would like with her as had a baby recently and little rabbits in my area. She will work to ground if given the chance I think, as she will enter holes to get dummy, but I have no experience to bring her on that way. She isn't good with other dogs, which is why she has to go, one too many fights with the others in the yard. As I said too, I have a wee baby just starting to
  14. read whats written above haha read the first few words and got excited didnt read the rest. thanks very much, never realised been looking for mk1 collars.
  15. would a mk3 collar work with an 8ft mk1 box then too? and if so how do you measure depth?
  16. Think I got a dud one haha Kno she not a straight wheaten grey. She good as gold with people, extremely gentle, and at times very aloof. Toolk basic obedience, stay sit retrieve etc well enough, cant get her to jump tho. I have found with mine that on her first lot of rabbits run last season, she coursed them turned them but so far she hasnt struck, or should have been well entered by now, put blame on myself cos she was 2 before started properlly and during puppyhood i never played much ball games with her, she sorta followed on with the other dogs. Very good with my dogs, was alittle hard on
  17. Just out of interest, and as a topic peice. What terriers do people associate with a good temprement? discounting certain lines, and i kno that each dog is an individual. What are your opinions and experiences?
  18. Kno its mainly boredom, and being in season. Not as easy to get out at the min, cos all fields are in barley or grass. Am having a massive problem with ticks too, but have been put onto benzo? to try and sort that. And have a 9 month old nipper so been bit tied up. went out withg a ball to yard to play with em for a bit and that didnt help. Have to go on few long road walks I think, dont want to keep jrt in the house cos she gets uppity. She a wee shite for that , but she obedient in field and a great ferreting dog, but she gets pushy. And I definately dont let her away with things, am being m
  19. done it again!! 3rd time today, let jrt out to pee and straight to collie for nother go.
  20. mine only a ferreting bushing terrier, unless i fall in with fox men haha the terrier sleeps in kitchen and the collie, lurcher and terrier cross sleep in the porch, but from 8am to midnite they all out in the yard with dog boxes, not normally any trouble, maybe my own fault for throwing a ball and playing with em got em hepped up a bit. Can understand it, bouncing of the walls myself. Any trouble would normally be between the jrt and the terrier cross, but not this time. And the collie normally chicken. And the lurcher, she just laid down and watched it hahaha
  21. does anyone else have trouble with their dogs fighting over the summer, My jrt has just got a pasting from the collie and has a wee flap of skin torn just on the eyelid, its not serious, this time. Was second time today they have had a go at it to. They jrt is in season, and the collie normally backs away smart, but the two of em kept hammeriung on, at my feet. They haven,t had as much excersise time at the moment cos fields all waiting to be cut, so I know its probably mainly from boredom, anyone else have similar troubles?
