  1. A week later than the above night, they were cutting and baling a field just over the road I had my eye on it all day and as soon as it got to evening I said right I'm away. As I was walking up to it I could see the tractors and trailers all leaving fully loaded with bales and thought bugger. Keep going cos it's probably their last load. Got to the field and still full of bales, bollocks I'll go round anyway now I'm out. Started to walk round the edge and the dog is a different animal now she has had a catch. I wasn't expecting to see anything with them still working the field though. The
  2. pic of above rabbit, not much of a bunny, but it was her first and i was proud.
  3. An old ferreting book I have from 70s says that bells get clogged, and that they can catch on twigs etc. Kind of put me off the idea of using them myself.
  4. Maybe add pics off your catch for it too count?
  5. As for lamping them, block off as many exits as you can early on in evening. Help you along. Are you using the dog or air rifle? Never lamped for rats but surely would be similar to rabbits, Get a rat hunting video I got one that shows them lamping with 2 plummer types in a pig shed. Just find the rat shine the light and let dog run, take a bit of practice for the dog, but sure it would work. Dunno bout limits for size of dog for earthwork, obviously as long as it can go down, for ferreting I like a smaller dog 10"tts but suppose it's each mans preference.
  6. is a good idea, keep a nationwide track of things. I am right in thinking that the old fox hunts results were announced in thepaper radio etc?
  7. put my hand into a potential new bury couple of weeks ago, grabbed a handful of a bees nest, not to impressed hahaha
  8. thats him. heres a before and after pic looks a wee bit similar yo my terrier cross on a different thread in here. terrier in its mix uncertain though. Yours a nice looking dog.
  9. Good luck finding a dog too. Ours do both sound similar, and loyalty too is there in mine. Won't let a stranger through the gate if she standing at the front door. And will go on gaurd if she hears any one else in the woods with me. Which is a great trait if I could get it into the lurchers hahaha
  10. Aye she lifted rabbits from long grass, found a young jackdaw not long fledged and she just carried it about for a walk haha retrieved it tho. She chased a hare but not a flying #### of catching it haha She same size as a springer too, not that fast though, but has the kind of shape that should take a whippet well in the future, just a bit bulkier. She be a handy enough dog for rough shooting too, as she easy trained up onto whistles etc but I just use her for bushing with lurcher and jrt. Took her ferreting last year but she didn't have the patience for it, wouldn't sit still. But on sa
  11. my brain not working haha didn,t twig today was the 7th. I don't know myself I live in northern ireland but old man said on the havant freecycle site week or so back there was a patt free to good home. Check out the freecycle site if you haven't before. It's a good site especially if you travel a lot you can check various areas. Even check out the free ads, dads not into hunting game any more so don't think he would even know anyone local with pups etc Should be plenty around though.
  12. Aye thanks, had a look on your site, definately look the same.
  13. Thanks, just had a look and definately very similar looking. Shame you lost out on getting her back. They a nice we dog, very smart and trainable. Bit stubborn at times though I found. See you going to be in havant on sunday, not far from my old man. Lot of working dogs in that area I think if you still looking.
  14. coat is a pain in the arse. Have asked on here before bout terrier crosses and all pics I seen are nice terrier marked dogs, I just got a big black sheep hahah
  15. No offence taken, thought it was maybe a technical term I hadn't heard yet. Only new to the whole game haha Are terrier spaniels not thought of as much good then?
  16. Would you have any pics of beddyxspringer? I have a terrier spaniel and not sure quite what it is haha have started a thread in this section if you have a look and see what you think?
  17. The cross is a terrier spaniel, Was never sure what could throw the black coat. She is very similar in coat to a kerry blue, and A couple of people have said that, I have seen some vids on youtube of wheatens in someones house, and she looks and moves and barks very very similarly to them, only a different colour. The man I got her off kept borderxlakies and lurchers in the kennel, and mine was the last of the litter so didn't even see any siblings. Really should've seen the dam, but forgot all about it haha can't complain about her tho as she is a very smart keen dog. Will lift sitters fr
  18. cant find any better pics at the min. The pic of her over grown is recent, then I had to give her a harsh clip cos was overgrown, thats the second pic. normally maintain her coat shortish cos it is so thick!
  19. This is my terrier cross, what do you think the terrier in her is? When I bought her I meant to see the dam (terrier) but got talking bout his lurchers instead. Just want opinions of what she is, I have my ideas what she is though. she used for bushing, and has just started to mark off her own back. Pics at vahttp://www.thehuntinglife.com/forums/style_images/progreen/folder_attach_images/attach_remove.pngrious times of her coat clipping cycle haha
  20. I would be up for it next year, if this works and becomes an annual event? Not really set up for it this year, no car, need new lamp etc and very little ground to hold anything on. But this sort of thing is definately a great idea.
  21. I didn't have much trouble as I had the ferrets first and jrt grew up with them. As I got more dogs they all learned from the russell. My ferret cage is at a low level so the dogs can see them at all times. They can see them when fed etc. My jrt is a gem with them so gentle, and my lurcher got nipped by the new hob and now she avoids them. I would say that if you have good control of the lurcher then hold the ferret and let the lurcher sniff etc and praise for gentleness and avoid any aggression with control. When you are confident with that let the ferrets run around on the ground, and if
