  1. I was out to day watch a bloke work his dalmation & weimarner, both keen as mustard, and fit as fleas. saw the dalmation pick up one rabbit, but both just lacked that extra pace. The bloke said they would run all day, and are good alround dogs Just wondered if any ones heard of them in lurchers or what the strangest cross that has worked in a lurcher ? I believe alsation work quite well, is this true?
  2. I'm gutted, just come back from exercising the dog on my dads farm, hes in the middle of lambing so i kept to the fields of corn, kept the dog on the lead and walked the full lenght of the field thinking there could be the odd rabbit for a slip,Nothing i turn round to head back, let the dog off to have a run a round FECK me 50 yards in front (an area i've just walked over) up jumps a hare dogs off like feck , in no time its bowled over, pregnent doe, b*****d, I really hate catching them this time of year, we dont have to many and it seems such a waste I think next time she'll have to sta

  8. hi mate, you want to go out when its real windy and cloudy to cover the moon or even better when theres no moon, rain helps as well it stops any noise traveling, but alway walk with the wind in your face so the rabbits cant smell you. goo luck
  9. not saying what the farmer did was right, but why were they on his land in the first place if they haven't got premission, when i grew up on my dads farm i was sick of arguing the toss with strangers, over why people think its ok to let their dog run all over some else land(whether their doing any damage or not). Its some else property, you wouldn't like it if i came into your house uninvited and let my dog run around your home and just say its ok because we're not doing any harm, ok its a bit extreme letting off his firearms, but do you take a chance in been bitten by the dogs, or been a

  16. spot on mate, but it must get heavy at the end of the night with a bag of bunnies as well
  17. so what your saying is that everone does abad job of controlling foxses due to the fact on how many people on here are killing vixens with cubs and dog foxses. not naming any names on here thou no i'm not saying that, i didn't mention foxes, but again foxes are different, some farmers and especilly keepers would say one fox on your land is to many, other dont mind the odd one. on my dads farm he doesn't mind the odd one, but we know for a fact due to the last snow a couple of days a go there will be nothing in the area for quite a while but on the other side of the arguement
  18. If there was a huge number of hares and the land owner requested it, well then i would, but to be honest it would only mean i hadn't do a proper job in the winter to control the numbers, hare dont breed like rabbits some it much easier to control number, you have to get the balance right between sport and pest control. If you take too many out in summer when its easy pickings you soon find you have none left for winter, and even most farmers like to see the odd one now and again
  19. Im going out tonight, were going to run hares, tripled up on the lamp in fields with stone walls and stand the gate shouting at them . Theres plenty of leverets about so should be easy catches. Also is we see a deer were going to knock it over in the landy first to weaken it before throwing are dogs on it. Bite Bite Bite sorry mate, thats not my cup of tea, if you need to run leverets and knock deer down first with your landy i'd give it up as a bad job
  20. Just wondering if anyone has pics of home made equipment they use ? heres my lamp made up of a motorbike headlamp, a switch/lead off a old electric blanket, a motor bike battery, and a small ruck sack from tesco the lamp and lead are over twenty years old, when i use to go out with my old man he use to carry a car battery on his back, but i opt for the lighter motorbike battery. total cost £23, last for about 3-4hrs at a time with a 4-500m beam i know it doesnt quite look as goods as the proffessional kits but it does the job for me
