  2. Very interesting indeed, I suppose another thing to bear in mind is that, say the rabbit population ( that also causes great destruction in the countryside, on a smaller scale though) gets out of hand for some reason or another, it's not long before myxi rears its ugly head, but the numbers are greatly thinned out in that area for a season or two. Trouble is with pigs, there doesn't seem to be a desease that will kill them, yes they spread desease, and has now been scientifically proven I beleive, but bugger all kills them, so the population rolls onward and upward. The cost of TB to the coun

  6. Aint that the truth FTB,minority can and do sometimes, make you wonder is it worth the effort. enjoyed your thread, Good on ya.

  8. Bloody good thread mister, amazing how many experienced men drop a clanger on the tracking lark. I was always told as a pup, and its exactly how i remember it today, if you want the hare, follow the pair ( of feet that is). Nice to see a good thread with some good advice for a change, all credit to you. Regards B
  9. One good thing about a dusting of snow, you can see your quarry a bit quicker, a bit deeper and you can track a bit; but as rightly said already, its whats under the snow is what you have to worry about. If in doubt, leave your dog in the kennel, knocked up toes aren't worth risking for a quick dabble. B
  10. The most important factor(other than the breeding ) with ANY Bull cross is............ the person that works and looks after it. You get a wanker and its light the blue touch paper and retire to a safe distance, for, given the chance and an inch they will take a country mile. You get a sensible, consistant handler who has already had some experience of lurchers, who puts the time, effort and work into their charge, sit back and enjoy the sight in front of your eyes. Just my opinion, and look, no other breeds slagged off either. Enjoy your dog mate, but make sure he / she knows who wear
  11. Just to clear up any confusion and not to waste peoples time , i dont sell or supply any jabs, i now get them from vetorder.com on line. Cheers B
  12. They are a cracking litter pal, a real credit to you, I doubt they'll be around for long. Your right about the CW, if you had said "strong terrier cross" and not mentioned the "B" word (bull) you might have got away with it, had the same shit happen to a mate of mine. Best of luck with the sale mate, they are crackers. ATB B
  13. Have a bump on me mate, he's a fine looking dog, best of luck with the sale. B
  14. I must say, these are ALL valid points. But the biggest tester for a dog in the sheep dept in my humble opinion, regardless of how good it is, and I include my own here for falling short of what is acceptible, is a hill sheep, smaller, more flighty, highly likely to burst out of some fern or cover all on its own, they run different and they smell different, and are much smaller than low gound breeds. I know some will come back with, "a sheep is a sheep", but trust me, it's not. Again this is just my own humble opinion for what its worth. Regards B
  15. That pup is a cracker, its worth at least that of anyones money. Congrats on the new arrival. B
  16. Sorry guys, and I dont mean to piss on anyones chips here, and I can see that I am in the minority here, but once you have run your lurcher on Deer (succesfully), he can never be trusted on sheep again (not 100%), no matter how good he was before. This is just my opinion, but I beleive / know it to be the case. Like I said, sorry if I have burst anyons bubble here but I know it to be true, just my opinion borne of experience. Regards B PS And just to avoid any permission being lost, if they have goats there on your farm, either leave the dog at home or dont go there.
  17. Try drilling a 10 mm hole in the very top left hand corner of the face of your shovel ( as you look at it) if you carry your shovel over your left shoulder, and get an old dog lead clip ( the spring loaded ones you know) ,attach to bottom end of said luminous strap and Bobs your uncle, fanny's your Aunt. Unhook and dig at your leisure Perhaps you could supply those as well SS, already fixed, seeing as you are the man who has every known gadget known to dog men . It's what I use and it works a treat. Cheers B
