  1. if you've got poleys they will show up a lot better. albinos will be harder to see though, could be a problem if a fert leaves the warren without you knowing
  2. well the head of it is now half chowed down, so i know they'll eat it. Venison is WAYYY to rich meat for me, makes me puke lol, but no point letting it go to waste. mother says she'll have a leg off it though
  3. Got one like that, except he seems to think its a game... jump just out of reach as soon as I come close enough, then if I step back he comes out again and does that freaky dancing thing ferrets do before turning round and running back in again, lol. Could just be a bit too young?
  4. Hey everyone, I have just finished the 2 hour long process of bleeding, skinning, gutting and jointing a deer that mother has had the pleasure of meeting tonight with her car. I am really hoping that there arnt any special "rules" about feeding venison to ferrets, but I thought I'd better check. They have the head in there now, and the rest is wholly occupying a freezer. So... Is deer alright to feed?
  5. apparently mole is one of the most disgusting tasting animals there is. most ferrets will turn their noses up at it
  6. Split them up when feeding, then after each has had the right amount of food put them back together. Dry food makes them podgy so try to stick to meat.
  7. Exactly my thoughts. If it is as dug up as you make it out to be, then it would be pretty much useless to the landowner and so Im sure he would be willing to allow anything to get rid of them if he cares so much about the land that you arnt even allowed to shoot, dig or let dogs on it. Think somebody might be BSing a bit.
  8. who's the joker on the left in the last pic lol
  9. I have done a search on google, but all I can find is stuff about wallace and gromit. I was hoping somebody could provide me with a description (and hopefully a picture) of what a grommit is. Also, what are end-pins? Really interested in getting myself a longnet, but know f*ck all about them. Once ive got all the equipment Ishould pick up the technique fast enough Cheers
  10. nice, did you use purses or just long nets? Crackin pics
  11. when you dont have a locator like me, you cant dig. my fert always manages to come up with blood all over his face, and it takes up to an hour on large sets to resurface, so perhaps i should invest in one.
  12. When its like 50pence each, it works out you can save more money feeding to ferts rather than buying dry food. one rabbit will feed my two for nearly a week, and they would eat around 2-3 quidworth of dry food in that time...
  13. Its happened to me mate, so now whenever I am dealing with someone, I always warn them that it is classed as fruad (obtaining currency through deciet). Some people get pissed off and think I am accusing them directly, but if someone said it to me I would think twice.
  14. them rabbits look starved to death, either that or they have been gutted and i cant tell lol
  15. 9mm or 12mm exterior plywood is really suitable. Already weather proof, and strong but easy to work. Should do the job fine
  16. These are the exact symptoms my hob had a few weeks ago. Still no idea what it was, at first i though he had broken his two back legs, but then he was moving them around and staggering about. After a couple of days, I went to take him to the vets, but when I looked in, he was walking around much more comfortably and seemed to be improving on his own. I cancelled the appointment and after about another week he was right as rain again. Hard to watch, but keep making sure she can drink and keep offering her food, as she may regain her appetite and not be able to get to the food. Good luck ma
  17. I have never laughed at anything more immature than that.
  18. The first warren I tried mine on had only three holes, hard to go wrong there... Unless its empty
  19. Not trying to stunt the debate or anything, but all you had to say mole catcher was that backpegging is not the only way to go about it. Also, I didnt want an essay, just a general discription of the differences between the two, which I think stubby acheived (albeit the part about backpegging). Thanks for the info guys,
  20. Hey, I have never yet been longnetting, always just used purse nets, but the idea seems much more appealing than having to do each individual hole. I am wanting to get a longnet, and recon about a 50 yarder will do fine for me, but i was wondering what the difference betwwen quickset longnets and traditional. Presumably quicksets are better (as they are quick to set?) but as I dont yet know what the difference is, I thought I'd better ask Cheers, Coatesy
  21. To straighten the poles mate, fill a pan about half full of water, and put it on the hob. lay the bend in the wood over the pan, and cover with a few tea towels (one is too thin). when the water starts to boil, the steam loosens up the wood and you can straighten it out over your knee. It takes about ten minuets to soften up each bend though, and you have to do each on individually so it takes some time.
  22. i only keep dog ferrets and i have a right mixture from different years and different litters , i have all the adults castrated so theres no seasonal humping and once the pecking order is sorted , there isn,t a problem, once the younguns are old enuff to work , the whole lot will be in together ,all 11 of em don,t see why it makes any difference whether they are from the same litter or not or brung up together Well yeah, but if they are castrated they dont have all the manly hormones to make them all competetive and aggresive.
