  1. i dont booster, the way i see it is that if every one of my dogs is in contact with rats on a weekly(usually twice a week) period they shouldnt need boosters.what can a vet inject into a dog to make it produce antibodies that a rat biting the same dog cant???????????? i could be wrong so someone might be able to provide evidence that you should booster a dog.id take some convincing though having two six year old dogs that help take several hundred rats a year alongside other non boostered dogs with no ill effect. mind if my dogs werent catching rats very often id get a booster.
  2. early season we get good daytime bags.................at this time of year the rabbits are in less numbers and are harder to catch.id imagine many know what a dog is,going off last fridays lamping session they know what a lamp is aswell, probably because lurchermen and keepers are trying to kill them every week. it seems that generally where i go after christmas less rabbits sit tight either in the reeds or in the beam.
  3. im glad you had a good morning mate, oneday we will have a full day at it but its hard to fit everything in sometimes and i had to pick a mate up at 12.30 for a couple of hours ratting yesterday afternoon. fudge did well in the thicker cover, her workrate is impressive and she covers the ground too fast for my slow lurcher to keep up rabbits are thin on the ground,or at least its getting harder to find them above ground for dogs to hunt them up.the sets on the open banksides seem to hold good numbers but thats a ferreting or shooting job.hopefully next season mixy wont be as bad. in sa
  4. i can fully understand how a particular form of hunting can lose its appeal.BUT dont stop hunting just try another sport.i used to enjoy ferreting with nets but id stop at home now rather than catch rabbits in purse or longnets. i like to go lamping and daytime rabbiting regularly with lurchers but i know for a fact i wont be doing as much in ten years time.hopefully ill still be spending as much if not more time hunting but there are so many hunting sports to have a go at.i intend to end my days messing about with birds of prey but im not going to get one yet. seeing the dogs out ratting
  5. she is out of gwp bitch to a coursing dog and was bred by craig nuttall.
  6. ive had that gun for about five years,a superb bit of kit that is still going strong in spite of the lack of care ive given it. the pointer does sometimes want to retrieve a rat but its always very dead.off-course the rats in the pic were all head shot so were dead before he got to them.i think ill have some fun working him in the future.
  7. had a couple of hours out with dave c and his lurcher paddy over mixed ground made up of rushes, gorse and bracken.fairly hard ground to catch rabbits on but we caught a few.
  8. the dam is a gwp cross. i saw warrens pup recently,i really liked it.
  9. yeah minnies spot on mate, been a good bitch for her owner.hopefully the pups weve got out of her brother will do ok aswell.
  10. I thought id take the pointer out with the gun for a quick mouch around a farm but when i got there they were still busy putting straw into the pens.It turns out they mucked them out today and took 18 rats.Im pissed off i wasnt there but i wouldnt have expected the rats to have been caught so easily as they normally get into the walls and safety long before a dog can get near. Anyway i waited 10 minutes for them to finish before having a walk around.I managed to shoot a couple off the rafters for the dog to pick up.well he is a gundog and he marked a few places where i was able to shoot the
  11. very sorry to hear about this lads.
  12. sounds like a good look out lads, canny pics aswell.
  13. the big dog is a gwp bred lurcher, she has been known to catch a few rabbits from time to time but dosent bother hunting birds much. i do own a year old pure gwp which will be used for various things but i dont go shooting.his main use will be general hunting, ratting and ferreting plus working the reedy dales from time to time.
  14. im not going to get out this weekend up the dales so we had a couple of hours out with the lamp to keep the dogs ticking over. i really must start going out lamping more regularly.
  15. hope you do well mate i just love watching lurchers hunt through reedy fields.
  16. NICE ONE MICKY rabbits seem thin on the ground in many places.im off to a place this weekend where i took canny bags last season but mixi has been bad lately so im not expecting much.
  17. you've never seen an afternoons graft in your life mate nice haul fellas , hows the pups training going? the pup is going ok............
  18. to be honest the red terrier looks quite good on that pic, better than he does in the flesh.photos seem to make his head look bigger than it actually is.
  19. they are six year old plummer/nuttall crosses.
  20. I had a late invite out ratting last night so wasnt able to sort time off work yesterday. This meant having to go in early and do some frantic fork lift driving, just enough so that the lads i work with could manage this morning before i was back in the afternoon. Anyway im glad i did as i hate to miss out on anything and it turned into a canny mornings ratting,i got back to work just in time to have a cuppa before the graft started. My co-hunter was probably sat with his feet up eating Ive just finished a bit of training with the young GWP so i might get some food into me now.
  21. keep the posts coming, you partake in a type of hunting i rarely get to do myself so i find it interesting stuff.
