Almost shed a tear reading that, we all have so such strong bonds with our dogs and its such a shame that they dont live as long a life as we do. Just have to remember that you gave him the best times of his life and be proud of that.

I think collie x would suit you fine. Easy to train, take to the lamp with ease, and very obediant. I started with one, so have many people i know, and infact will not use nothing else than the collie x. As for the deerhound x i would not own one due to the terrain my way, and have witnessed them to be very slow off the mark. Back to that old saying. HORSES FOR COURSES!

I would do some reading, if you havent already, speak to people on here that work collie x's. Do you have land to work the dog? Get as much info as pos, then get yourself a pup, take your time, bond with it, care for it, and most importantly have fun together. As for company, go out on your own to begin with and train your pup. Too many people at this stage will ruin your dogs concentration, and can pick up bad habits from the older dogs, but dont rule out the older dog as they do bring on the pups!
