ive been toying with the idea of a working dog & still cannot make my mind up what/which to get, i already have 2 American Bulldogs ( i dont work them ) , if i got a working dog would keep it outside in kennel, anyway i have been offered an italian greyhound x whippet free now i have no experience with any type of earth/running dogs so what would you people reccomend ? i cannot make my mind up as i really do need a dog that can mark & tell me someone is at home which will save me time but fancy lamping at night as well , so what dog for first time is the question, have kept dogs for 2

have to agree with you stubby i gave mine 24/7 access to food no bites etc i give them more than two handfulls i think the recomeneded is 7% of body weight,i only feed once a day at night 7pm if i call throught the day & there is no food i dont refill until 7pm its worked for me & was told to feed this way, there is always fod in the bowl in morning when i check but usually after 2pm its all gone, like you say they realize food is availible 24/7 & feed only what they need i.e caloriific need ( i think thats the term for it !! ) im no expert but has worked for me regards john

how old are they now mate ?? i got kits from this year & will be starting them at 5 month ( nov ish) i have had/heard loads of conflicting advice, some say next year, some say this year , advice i been given is just start them on small 4/5 holes & if possible get someone who has ferrets working & get them showing the young how its done, i got mine going through pipes & nets, get them used to having collars on , mine went nuts when i put collars on tried sliding along ground to get them off & they did !! its amazing how tight you can put a collar on get them used to

some good set ups there lads , was going to convert my shed for ferrets but decided on an outside run & underneath area, make sure no wood is exposed in corners because after a while it stinks as pee soaks in wood ( i used lino 1ft out of each corner ) smell has gone a bit, mine is 1x 4 double storey 1 x 7ft long x 3ft wide hutch & outside cube 1.5mx 1.5 m with ball pool & underground tunnels with access everything is sat on flags easy to wash down with hose the ferrets love being able to get outside some days they just sit on top of the ball pool snoozing aw

i have same type of set up as yours & i adjusted mine in the corners & cut a square out of corner & replaced with galvanised mesh 3inch x 3 inch, then fixed two runners underneath for a slide in box like yours, as for keeping the litter tray still , can you not fasten it to your cage ?? you could put a brick in it but they will still try & drag it out & still crap in corner !! at least they are not crapping in the food bowl, yet regards john
-
they do look bigger , its amazing how tight you can put one on a ferret , mine went nuts the first time i put collars on them & managed to get it off took me a few goes but got it right, still trying to get used to it, think i sussed it now with the help of the vid on here, regards a.t.b for the season john

ive got myselkf 2 kits & havnt worked ferrets since i was a young lad this is what ive been doing to help their instincts kick in i have included in there run pipes & tunnels, i take them out every day to different places to get used to being out & near dogs ( like another poster has said ) they come to me when i whistle , i would also say get them coming to you when called which will help when out in the feild i have just got to the stage of putting their collars on which is kind of funny, as they slide along the ground trying their hardest to get it off , its amazing ho
