  1. 20bores have more kick than 12's i've found cos they are lighter but don't make your arms stretch when carrying it all day!!
  2. i think the rapid is probably the best gun but the airarms is a very close second and better value for money!!!
  3. what about a purebred working collie, acd or kelpie? don't know but kicking abour ideas
  4. they got a silenced 410 and 12 at my college or did have and i'd say the 12bore just took the crack off but the whole barrel is bigger and its very heavy and like said before unbalanced but has been said to be good in sensitive areas pigeon shooting etc..............the 410 is great around farm buildings etc and walking sensitive hedgerows but its all more metal your carrying.....theres definately a place for them but there not the sort of gun i'd want as an only gun!!
  5. yeah could of been there are people like that round there!!! didn't know if other people had experienced it going out now for another go!!! we'll see what its like tonight!!
  6. picked up bodies one had 3 cubs in her, one was in heat and other was old dog!! the others may have been cubs as could not see clearly but these 3 still came with all commotion going on
  7. hi new to this area but thought i'd ask if this is unusual..............went out friday night to shoot some rabbits at a farm with my air rifle.....took the lurcher pup incase i could give him a run or i pricked one and it would be an easy catch.......and the shotgun cos theres often foxes poking about......shot a couple of rabbits.....and then a pair of eyes appear.......mate sat with dog and air rifle and squeaked it in while i slid up the hedgerow to ambush(lol) i still get excited about it!!! Got the shot and dropped it. Then two minutes later after chatting with mate excitedly(it had b
  8. unfortunately boar are native to Britain....but we have hybrids that are close to the real boar....they have a couple of characteristics the same but mainly they can have litters the size of farmed pigs where as true boar have small litters........not meant to run them with dogs but i'm not sure if there is a minimum calibre for them as there not recognised to be out there!!! lol f**king DEFRA
  9. Dogs can be done any ages after 6 monyhs (sometimes before) bitches to (they dont have to have a season). Doesnt affect them in the slightest plenty of info on internet, look for yourself. this is me looking on the internet for myself!!! Cheers everyone.......just didn't want to do something then regret it!!
  10. now which farmer in the right mind is going too let you put a sheep killer in with sheep you lot are funny as fcuk take the dog up to the farmer were the dog killed on and ask him what you should do with it .. well whatr you do is make friends with someone, muzzle the dog etc take every precaution.....but like i said be prepared to foot the bill if it goes tits up well said midnight runner!!! but what would you do if you can't get it out of them?? some dogs do have a screw loose!
  11. cheers for that, i think i'll get it done in a few months,
  12. foxes - tod, charlie or old reynard when being really sly....lol badger(not game  ) - brock or stripey or billy hare - old long ears Deer by the breed/species and most people don't have a clue any way....... :11:
  13. i'd say most people on here are right..........try it with a ram or ewe might stop it, then ask someone with sheep if they mind you testing your dog on their flock(where it won't do much damage ie no prgnant ewes/lambs) but beprepared to foot the bill if it all goes tits up, with a collar on if it goes after them again zap em give that a couple of goes if it won't stop chasing then its time for the lead!!!
  14. right the story goes.........he has a retained testicle so it has to come out(surgery) he is also a wandery sort of dog always off looking so was considering castration of both rather than just one nut! If both were to come off when is the right time to do it I will be letting him mature fully before i do anything as there is no rush about 14months i thought I would like him to take the odd fox(once the *** is lifted of course, and we live in hope) and he is showing good potential, ragging skins/shot ones with gusto and he is definately the size for it. He is 9 months old in a
  15. in relation to young dogs does a lure do any good.....i mean rabbits my way are hard to get easy slips on so i've been swinging the the lure round to get him chasing and turning and still catching......start with he was not great as can be expected and he's never gonna be fast but his corners are getting better and he puts in a burst at the right time....as i said first working lurcher and wondered if this was right???
  16. 81/2 months......can be fairly mature, settled and steady for his age but then is still a pup and legs it round like a nutter sometimes...........infact he was yesterday round the garden but miss judged a corner and ploughed straight into the pond.....was worried for a second but came out still running the other side...then i preceded to p*ss myself laughing!!!
  17. The vet said stick it on adult food but hes now on Autarky natural puppy/junior complete.....£18 a bag and i know its good stuff cos some one i know did a food nutrition study and its not full of junk........I agree with you about put it down and if its not gone in say 5 min then it goes and he goes hungry but cos its high quality food a dog of 30kg only needs to eat 300grams of this a day and i'm not sure he even needs all that so value for money is good....we've also just wormed him(i only got him last sunday) so that should help him to stop losing weight......he won't be over fed, and he j
  18. yeah but it ain't great for a growing pup not too be getting the right vitamins etc just because he's settling in to a new home and had a lot to deal with. hes now eating a dry food thats high in everything he needs so he doesn't need to eat so much of it.......all my dogs are fed slightly differently as they all have different requirements.........Thats the way i believe they stay healthiest and therefore do the best job
  19. mother was a pointer and father a greyhound should make the allround dog i want...........maybe not an alround lurcher but an allround hunting companion as i want to do blood trailing and things as well!
  20. them boar are pretty shy so you need to spend alot of time on the ground before you see them.......or so i been lead to believe

  25. My new pup is a bit of a fussy eater what can people recommend to get him eating? He was on red mills?? but i can't get that my way and he just picks at his food....i take it away after 15min when he's left it but he just isn't keen.....What food is also good for a 8 month pup? off to the vet later but want some working peoples opinions??
