Finally starting the course i should have started ages ago! Really looking forward to it all now! Basically i am a keeper for the estate and get marked on it all and taught along the way.... Should help with the FAC application, get to shoot a lot more than i already do, and enrichment (part of the course) will include stuff like, lamping etc! Going to really enjoy it, Anyone else at Brinsbury? doing a similar course? done a similar course? .Joe

I do agree with that completely. The animal was delt with as quickly as possible, i was just wondering about the legalities of it aswell. Turns out that it is legal to do so using a shotgun if the animal is distressed or injured. Link to show where i got the information from... http://www.bds.org.uk/use_of_shot_guns.html also rang basc deer department. .Joe

I was wanting to do the legal thing, not get myself in shit for it....but its done now. It is perfectly legal for the use of a smooth bore weapon to be used in the detruction of injured deer.
-
According to the British Deer Society its perfectly legal to use a shotgun with correct load at a distance of 10m or less....do i go ahead and do it?

I have just got a call from my local farmer saying he has a deer on his property that is severely ill and had an obvious broken leg...can i come and deal with it? I dont want to as i only have a shotgun cert. My friend who is licensed by the police to have a humane kill handgun is busy and i cant get hold of him. From what the farmer has said, you can get right up and stand and touch him, but he doesnt look as though he is going to die anytime soon... What are my options. THey've spoken to the vet and he wont come out for some reason... Cheers .Joe

F*** off. You have a problem with efficient pest control, this is the wrong site for you. I think reading the posts by the "big guns" pest controllers on here you will quite often see a write up where several more were spotted but not shot. If a job is there to be done, surely you do it? If its there 50th fox this year then surely they arent shooting them to bits as there seems to be an ample supply of foxes to shoot 50 this year yet still see more?! As far as i can see it, making that statement is almost the same as me going to work, being told to do something and not doing it because

Nice to see some others! All these posts i read all seem to be bloody northerners! No offence intended... i dont think! Im down in Chichester, near Portsmouth... Where abouts are you lot then? Do you manage to get out in the field much? Dogs, fert's. Shotgun, Rifle? I only every get the occasional lamping and pigeon shooting.... Got a few friends i go digging with. Hopefully that will all change soon as im studying Gamekeeping at Brinsbury College so should meet some new folk up there.... .Joe

I thought i would have a problem with mine... i picked a veggie out of all of them! 8 months down the line she loves the meat and has shot her first few rabbits and pigeons. Occasionally she'll have a backwards moment but the best advice i can give is.... Deal with it or F*** off. Im training to be a keeper, so if she wants anything as a future she'll have to! Try talking her round to it all, then take her and show her what its like... Mine couldnt understand that a correctly placed shot was like turning the lights off... Once she knew it was almost instant and we do our best t

Been a member of the forums for a while now, and suddenly thought...i have no idea if there is anyone from around the South East England, West Sussex? So if theres anyone out there, where are you? Make yourself known! .Joe

So i have had the last 3 days off college and decided it was time to get my eye back in for the pheasant season... So i took myself down to the farm and have ben pigeon shooting the last 3 days! Tried for a roost shoot on the first 2 days, only totalling 11 between the two evenings. Was a bit disappointed but thought i'd have a proper go today... The morning was the text book nearly winter morning, sun shining, slight nip in the air. I got to the farm at about half 7 so i could get the early few before the day really got going...I set up the hide on a hegde line bordering some stubble

As the title says, i have an 8 shot .177 Falcon Raptor PCP for sale. It has a falcon quickfill silencer/adaptor Hawke 3-9x50 Map Pro Scope with sunshade Average fold-away bipod Can come with charging bottle and regulator, new test on bottle around 2 months ago. (+£100) Black gun slip, a little tight now due to the scope being so big. I regret having to sell this as i absolutely love it, it shoots so straight and hardly ever looses its zero. Im after £325 as its in very good condition, has been serviced regularly and has the beech thumbhole RH stock which is lightweight and b

Got him off a local keeper. Only 7 weeks, but solid, like a little cube, completely square! Got some real bollocks on him too, no probs playing with the 2yr old russel... Should be a cracking dog if i can get the work for him! Cheers .Joe

I shall be waiting to hear from the police, give my side of the story, which should be understandable due to the stress of the situation, and even pass on the vets words about the dog. The vet was very kind and very shocked. She miss understood when the police first rang her thinking that it was a nice natured call from my neighbours checking the dog was fine as she thought she had a local fan club! When i picked her up and explained, the vet was almost as angry as i was. She said that even in the circumstances she never stopped wagging her tail and being friendly, that she was the easiest and

Yep, my 1yr old jack russel puppy was mown down on the main road out side my house. My sister was walking both dogs at the field just beside my house, as she came back out on to the pavement, the dog stepped out on to the road, which looked clear, as the pavement is just not wide enough due to a neighbours bush over hanging the path, a car doing about 45 in a 30 hit her, snapped the lead and sent her about 30ft up the road. We had a knock on the door from our neighbours explaining this and so naturally i went running up the road to find my dog in the arms of my sister, drenched in bloo

probably find mate that the cost of threading your barrel would justify buying a parker hale adapter... about £20 last time i looked.... What gun is it? Joe

theres a screw on the right hand side of the gun near the slot for the magazine. remove this screw. inside the whole is another grub screw that will adjust the power. i turn mine down for ratting inside barns by turning the screw 1 1/2 turns clockwise. i dont know what that power is but it should bring it down enough. hope i helped.

I bought a new scope about 10 days ago for my falcon fn19rb. Its a Hawke Map Pro 3-9x50 Parallax adjustable Mil-dot etc etc... It has made the world of difference. My old optics had obviously had it as they weren't holding zero, but this is insane.... Just a quick pic or 2....

I spoke to the landowner and a worker on the farm. The worker on the farm has a FAC and was applying for change of use and new permission and told me that our FAO came and looked and said it wasnt suitable ground? Maybe my post on here was a little hasty, as i havnt spoken to the FAO recently reguarding my own application and size of permission... I just had another look at the permission and cant now understand myself, why he was turned down? Here is the permission I'll get on to BASC tomorrow, as i am sort of flying a bit blind here, and need the help, then i'll get on t
-
Well to be truthful, i feel like crying! I have had my application, not even an application as it was just an enquiry, smashed because of the ground i had permission on. It is a floodplain and i have been told i will never get permission granted by the FAO. I had only enquired and was asking about .17HMR and .22 Hornet, my thinking being that chances of ricochet would be less, and bullet travel. Also the .22 for cf experience to help later on with my FAC. Never mind! I shall have to stick to the air rifle at the moment. But never the less, to keep myself happy i have just bought a

so just cause its a hunting forum, does it mean that its acceptable to be taking shots at ranges that wont deliver a humane kill with the right weapon? i put the "paper punching" stats. up so maybe we could see that it was never going to be a sensible, sure, humane kill..i was under the impression that the correct hunting/shooting view was that unless you are sure of a humane kill it wasnt right to take the shot? sorry for giving my opinion on my respect for quarry and preparation that i take to achieve this. Its things like this that give people ammunition to start having a go at
