  2. Im surprised and sad at the old diggers getting knocked, especially by some older lads on here.I started digging in 1967 with hairy arse Country men some were my own family. These old timers were no fools they knew how to find in big places with no technology and were top class digging men and knew good dogs from shite,no sentiment shite did not come home. Some clowns back then worked more than one dog to ground just like some do now,but the serious dog men worked one dog.I have heard all the so called Legends names, never met any of them nor do I wish to.The real Legends were the hairy arse Country men who kept to themselves kept good lines tight and made no money. My opinion they kept better dogs they were to ground much longer(yes sometimes it did take hours to locate them)sometimes they were to ground for days(but most were located and and dug)I have heard opinions on here that dogs are better now because he gets more digs because he can be found quicker.Which dog would you want a dog with ten handy digs or a dog with three ten hour digs or one dig that lasted two days,I would go for the last two options.Shame on lads for belittling those men who are mostly all dead and gone, only for them lads would be still digging rats.

Liam who was the better dog between the two fathers?

Both were top class dogs, the B and T had a bonus if anybody except me or my digging partner went to lift him from his work he bit them LOL.He nailed a few people down the years, otherwise very good with kids.
do you interbreed them all or do try stick with types

    They are kept tight.

  4.

:laugh::laugh: , that was him all over. A complete rogue.

He was very well liked by the local foxhounds as he did a lot for them. But he still went out one night and shot 21 foxes, .

He was a very good fly fisherman too. But that doesn't mean every trout in his freezer was hooked fair and square  .

He once called to my house at Christmas and handed me a large fish wrapped in plastic. Happy Christmas he said.

I gave it to my mother as she loves salmon. She opened the bag.

It was a 12 lb Brown trout with a hole through the top of it's head  it was as tough as old boots.

We called for him one Sunday morning and ended up putting one of his terriers in a big large rambling old disused badger sett.

There was a fox in it and it went to bolt, seen a lurcher and went back in.

For the next couple of hours the fox just went round and around and around the large tubes with the terrier chasing it.

Then Paccy informed us he had a game of rugby at 1 o clock and would we drop his lurcher and terrier home when we were finished. Off he went.

As soon as he was gone I put in a second terrier and the fox was killed a few minutes later. Had to be done.

    Good times.

Treehands, had you anything to do with a pair of black terriers that Paccy got from Britain in the early 90s called Max and Kizzy ?

They were unrelated and Paccy dug literally 100's of foxes with them.

I wasn't going to comment on this Neil but me two mate's was out today for a shot as it was the last day of the season for them and they bummed into a chap in ardee who knew you, they got chatting about dogs and yourself and he said this doubling dogs up is a regular thing with you and the brown dog yea keep aren't up til much ,,,only saying chum

This is the reason a lot of people don't comment on this site anymore.
