Liam how did the last litter work out, did they all work in a similar style, sounders mixers etc or did some work different from others?

There was six pups, three died(in there new homes not with me)the other three, two are over the water(red bitches)they tell me nothing passed them yet.The other bitch is in Tipp with my digging buddy,he is happy with her or she would be with Elvis.

  3. While travelling on the road in a band years ago,I would knock down any rabbits I could coming home at night for the dogs.We had a banjo player who was a prick, one night I hit a hare and sent him out to pick it up,telling him it was a rabbit,he got some bite from that hare.

Out and out sounders are no good for quarry that's clued in,I had one here couple years back, had 56 digs over him towards the end of his second season, some very good digs in big places, but got caught one day and was never the same after,he made sure it was never goin to happen again and start letting stuff past."there's nothing wrong with a hard terrier but I've buried a few tat were too hard for there own good, some handle themselves better than others

There's hyard and as you know there's stupid hard which are of little use in any mans yard,no point in fedding a dog for 12 months to only get a couple of digs through the season if your lucky.I have terriers here that can be dug to most wks even though they are mute or as near to mute as you will get, might sound a little while geting to there game but then it stops, but they dont try to kill whats in front of them, happy to take hold and lay there with it.My older bitch is different, she tries her best to go through quarry and is never happy with the back end of the quarry.I remember diging to your little smasher dog and to me he was the right type, could up the gears when needed and although hard to a point not reckless.I have a black dog here,no particular breeding that is more than happy to bay away but if it comes to him he will then take hold and the baying is finished. We all know whats required to dig educated stuff and i stick by what i said, they wont be dug with sounders,bayer-mixer types yes but not sounders.
From what I read on here Fatman is that very few release, so is there yards/dogs out there claiming or even believing that they have the holy grail in dogs, how would these dogs fair out when entered to quarry that has been dug to 3 or 4 times? When I was a nipper(pre ban) I remember badgers being released time and time again, these were dug to several time a year, men knew the type of dog they had and wanted.

We dug the same one for a long time, and he would be ready for us LOL.We also took people to him who claimed to have good dogs, most failed.

Back in the day,any dog we had that would not stay with Badgers, was giving to lads doing fox,as he was regarded as no good,so had we better dogs than today.??

That's the thing, some were definitely too hard for Pigs back in the day if you wanted them to have a decent stint as a working dog.

But we rated the fox dogs as yellow back then.
    what's your point?

No point, just an observation about different times.

Different folk have different opinions and different standards to others. For some it's just a test of a dogs gameness, seeing them having a short career is no problem if the dog shows to be game.

Good Badger dogs did not have short careers,my point is back then the rejects were used for foxes.Any man who puts a dog to ground is testing its gamenes(I use the word gameness loosely).

You may go back to scratch with your breeding program Neil.

There used to be a forum Liam about 12 or 13 years ago called "The BullTerrier Times."

You'd have loved it, loads of history on the old Irish Staffords etc.

It was ran by a lad from London,(I think) called Mario and one day he asked did anyone use their Staffs on the lamp for foxes ?

Me and my big mouth replied to not ask such stupid questions because if a Staff could catch a fox then foxes would be extinct. A stupid question.

A couple of days later I was exercising about 5 terriers with that pit bull ,Pepper (she was around 30 lbs) when the terriers mobbed a fox in a ditch but didn't hold him.

He ran down the middle of a big field and Pepper pulled him down fair and square on the run.

I had to eat my words (although I didn't tell the boys on the forum.).

I was lucky too. Where Pepper caught her fox was near an active Badger sett I didn't know about. The Fox was heading for it and I nearly had 5 terriers and a Pit Bull in it, :icon_eek::icon_eek::icon_eek: .

Fit ones were good for a burst of speed, the only thing mine pulled down was a very pissed of Mule.

Liam, was it yourself on here a while back offering a red fell type for stud? Could be wrong but your name rings a bell for some reason? Pm if like.

No Mary it was not me,have red dogs, but none out to stud.I offered myself at one stage, but got just two offers one from a Morphodite, the other from some fellow who breeds razorback pigs in Aleppo.
