  1. totally wrong and could drop someone right in the brown stuff.
  2. due for renewal in a few weeks and the 243 is top of the list, if these are still available i will take them please.
  3. Depends on the particular authority, going by a recent topic here in this section. In some areas, lads were told that foxes were classed as vermin, so a separate fox condition was not needed. but will a firearms department issue a hmr for fox, if you have no other rifle??????? Short answer is YES. then they want reporting to the home office. firearms guidance states, 17 rem and 22 hornet as minimum for fox. 17 hmr for fox s not a good reason to grant, despite the crap the fld tell us.
  4. a good thread here about the 17hmr and the law. http://www.airgunbbs.com/forums/showthread.php?t=358430

  6. does your fac say you can shoot foxes with it. not vermin, fox.
  7. trouble with the quad and spare barrels is. if the gun is in for repair, you have no gun for the spare barrels. cheaper option or not the fox deserves better.get a cf.
  8. sure most of them are deemed competent by the tests they have take in there own country. anyone could still stalk here with a dsc2 cert holder.
  9. I'm not convinced a DSC is of any great relevance!! if you where to receive say £20 for every person that sat it you would. got told the other day a certain police for wont let a mentor sign of a new stalker unless he can gralloch a deer, (what has that to do with firearms departments) plans are under foot to stop farmers using shotguns to shoot deer. night shooting classes are being set up nation wide. special night shooting permits are being made available to some stalkers. talk of dsc2 minimum before you are allowed to shoot deer in Scotland. dsc qualifications are here to
  10. Think DSC1 should be mandatory for beginners. Might save a few wounded deer you can take the shooting test as many times as you like, now and again some get lucky. dsc will never produce good shots. practise will.
  11. personally not against the dsc, but am against the scandalous price they charge for it.
  12. some farmers and shooters simply dont want them i presume.

  14. Vermin or not ,they still command some respect as quarry, and they still have to enter the food chain . some dont, even a lot of roe never leave the field they die on. once its dead how much more respect can you show at dead animal. a good few farmers i know still regard them with the same contempt as rabbits, and as such get shot. Strange situations abound, I am a Deer Mentor, I have an Open FAC with all deer, but have no qualifications on deer, except lifes experience.....apparently this qualifies me in the eyes of the LAW to teach and train and supervise any oik in the art of st
  15. The courses are actually getting more popular each month, which means people can see the benefits and the reasons for doing it . I think some of this could be down to firearms departments insisting on dsc qualifications before they will grant deer rifles. Can anyone tell us why the BDS treat munjak like vermin yet insist on a dsc qualification before you can shoot them. . An old chap took me under his wing 30 odd year ago, he new more about deer than anyone i have ever met, then the dsc was brought in and he was asked to do it or he would not be allowed to carry on, he stopped shoot
  16. I keep hearing about the big change to come in 2010, all people shooting will come under the EU rules regarding certificates for every thing. this includes a safety course before you can have a shotgun cert. And as we are the only country left that allows night shooting, that could be a thing of the past , unless you are a dsc 1,2,3,4,5 holder of a night shooting permit, or doing the pest control night shooting classes.
  17. At about £14 per 100 for hornet brass, i would dump em.
  18. If you are on good terms with your fld, a phone call is all thats needed to confirm land is passed or not. if they regard you as a pest, they will ask you to put it in writing . if its passed you need nothing else, for peace of mind and if the farmer/land owner will, get it in writing.
  19. thats why most of them go for chest shots, lot bigger target.
  20. they are a very good line of terrier if you can get old of them and bred by a man that has forgot more about terriers than most willever know. notworthy.gif Amen to that. good post .
  21. Mr L, My mate has a cz 527 in hornet, shoots up to 46 grainers with no problems he also reloaded with some 50 gns he was given, they did,nt seem as good, but still shot "ok" i have a cz 527 hornet that shoots 40grn pills better than 35grn ones. A lot better.
  22. the first rule of FAC is, there is no rules. what might work for one wont necessarily work for the the other.
