  1. Afternoon Guys/girls Had a bit of an issue with my lurcher over the weekend. Has been trained and absolutely trust worthy around sheep until Saturday, hopped over a fence into a field to see what was about. There were two sheep on their own, I didn't give it much thought as he is so good around them. Then they ran across the field, again didn't think much of it, until out of know where he went for them, I shouted at him and ended up pulling him off one of them. Luckily I got there before any real damage was done, he had just pulled it over, hadn't gone for the kill yet. Is he for
  2. Thanks Wyatt, but I meant budget lol They are way more expensive than the expensive ones here in the UK Do you have a link to some cheaper ones
  3. The look in her eyes! That is a look only a Lurcher can throw at something, translated that look says ‘I’m gonna find you, I’m going to run you down and I will kill you’!
  4. Morning gents, iv already posted about trail cams which has been of great use. Most of my land is small pockets for eg 12acre campsite. It’s awkward to stalk effectively as if you bump any they are off into neighboring land that I can’t shoot on. It’s a free permission and holds a lot of fallow and they are clobbering the under growth so I need to get the numbers down this season coming. as the permission is free I’m happy to buy a bit of kit t help and I’m thinking a thermal spotting scope, most off my other permissions are small as well so it could be really useful tool.

  6. Afternoon Gents and Gentettes, Looking at getting a trail camera for a small plot of land I have acquired for fallow deer. Its only a small site so will mainly be high seat territory but it backs onto sheffield park so there is a lot of traffic as the fallow move through. I know they move through there all the time so I just need to work out the times of day etc that they do. So I am thinking of putting up a trail camera just to get an idea. There seems to be alot on ebay that are cheap, anyone used them, how do they rate them? I know people say buy cheap buy twice etc but
  7. No I did, but he was never interested, I didn’t let him see anything till he was 100% on his training at 13months. Took him out after rabbits a few times and he was never interested, then one day a roe got up and he never looked back
  8. Alright Chaps and Chapettes, just wondering pre-ban, did anyone ever have a dog that only ever did deer? I’m taking never caught anything but deer? this is well before the ban but I had a beddy/deer/collie Lurcher that never caught anything but deer, not a single rabbit, hare or fox I’m his whole life but slaughtered roe/fallow and muntjac like no other dog. Straight in for the neck, job done. A lot of the time he’d do this weird bark/howl to let me know where he was. now Iv had 5 other lurchers, and all have done the business on most stuff but they have alway
  9. Hi All, Anyone know of any stalkers in the above mentioned area, I will be staying there for a week and want to try and get a stag in the bag as probably a once in a lifetime oppertunity We will be staying there in the first two weeks of august, Many thanks
  10. Thanks for the advice gentlemen I got him from a pup at 9 weeks, but he was very ill for quiet a while so by the time I could take him out after all his jabs he was 4 1/2 months. It sounds silly but one of the biggest problems is he is still a puppy but he is 25inchs at the shoulder and already pretty muscled so compared to most young dogs hes huge and wants to play rough and most other young dogs he comes across cant handle it. It's annoying as I thought i would find it easier to train him as a young pup over an adult dog. He seems to have taken after the terrier mentality wis
  11. Hi All, Need a bit of advice on my pup and training, I'm having a bit of trouble and just wanted to check if hes being a puppy and he will grow out of it or im doing something wrong. So I have worked lurchers since I was young but have always got one at 12months plus from rescue centres and trained them to a good standard and (pre-ban) worked them well on most things. So i know how to train an adult dog but never had a pup, I thought it would be easier.........i was wrong. He is a mix of deerhound, bearded collie, bedlington and greyhound and 6 months. Below are the issues
  12. Hi chaps and chappettes! Iv got a new bitch, got her at 9 months (a difficult age I know) Beautiful bitch she is, smart as a button and just in general nice to hang out with you know. Anyway, Iv got her to 'wait'! And down with hand signals. She sits on her own but won't be trained to, Iv tried everything, also she won't come if off the lead. So my question is, any pointers on re-call? Iv tried, 1) using a long lead and tit bits- not food interested so never worked. 2) hiding (bit odd I know, but I tried once with a saluki who wouldn't come back) really worked- not with her thou
  13. Hi Dan, So have you any experience in getting Visas or anything like that? Seems quiet difficult to get a working visa unless your under 30 (working holiday visa which lasts 2 years). Or you have a degree in something. As I have said I'm a very good climber/arborist so would love to go to montana to work, hunt and fish. Just not sure they would let me in to stay. What you reckon?
  14. Hi Dan, I pm'd you, hopefully you got it, but I'd love to come over to work in the US. I'm a very experienced arborist and would love the opportunity to work over there. The problem is the Visa.
  15. Will do chaps, Taking my prized Parker hale .308 with me and shipping over all my rigging and climbing kit. Got a guy who wants to sell his old u900 mog, just got to source a pto chipper. Got some dosh to buy land and build quiet a nice house. It seems like the Wild West out there, top stuff ?
  16. Yeah I'm going too mate, going out with some dosh so will buy a plot of land and build a chalet, start a tree surgery business and not have to put up with this shitty post brexit embarrassment of a country. And hunt amazing animals with a dog and rifle in my free time. Sounds a lot better than this beurocratic, red taped Theresa May stupid woman led country. Shouldn't have given them the vote let alone be prime minister
  17. Right thanks for advise. Il ask else where, Does it matter about the aids? If your stupid enough to f**k a black prostitute with out a johny.....well you sort of deserve it. I loved it when I was there, a lot of laid back people within the white community, a bit hippyish but all up for a laugh, a beer and a BBQ.
  18. My girlfriend is from there, have you got anymore advice? I loved it when I was there last, I was asking to see what work could be like and what the hunting was like
  19. Hi guys, Im moving to Swaziland next year and want to scout out some shooting/hunting. Anyone live there? Or been there? Also I'm going to start a tree surgery business out there, reckon it would be a good idea? Doesn't seem to be any proper firms there, just the odd guy with a machete. Obviously there's two reasons, not enough work for it or not enough money to warrant it. All your opinions would be well received. Cheers Treefella
  20. It's a Brno .22, I'll try swapping the mounts over that might be the right way to go. Wish I never touched it, could pretty much shoot a pube of a fly at 70 yards before I went messing around. I tried putting a strip of inner tube under the rear mount but that did nothing. Thanks for the advice chaps, il let you know how it goes.
  21. Hi guys, Took my scope of my rifle the other day to see if I could get it in a better position for my eye relief. What a bloody mistake that was, got the eye relief better but went to re-zero....... My rounds are hitting 3ft lower than the cross hair and I'm maxed out. That's at 70yds, any ideas? Never happened to me before and I'v shot this rifle years. Cheers Treefella
  22. Hi Deker, My reason behind a 7.62 is that I can easily get a rifle that can be used for both. I have seen on gun trader a 7.62 police marksman rifle for £350 in good nick that in my eyes would fit both stalking and target as it has a heavy barrel a bipod as standard. And surely 7.62 is as good as getting a .308 as an all round deer rifle? I don't see the difference between owning a .308 and 7.62. Apart from the 7.62 seems to be able to cope with target as well as deer more easily? Am I wrong?
  23. Anyone else know of easily available 7.62 soft nosed for deer?
  24. No you can't mate, they are similar but different pressure and neck size. Same as the .223/5.56. Il contact the guy about the ppu 7.62 soft nosed rounds. Anyone else have any opinions of this calibre for deer etc? Cheer
  25. So are 7.62 rounds available for deer? Or is it just fmj rounds you can get. They must be some manufacturers that produce a soft nosed 7.62 game round
