  1. firstly, i have known and owned a 'hard terrier'. im sorry mate but a dog should be brought up to no where it is in the pack i.e your family. all to many times iv seen people slap a dog to no affect. if you had brought that terrier up to no that even your children where above it in the pecking order then the terrier would never dream of growling. this is fact, you cant argue with it, i know a animal behavioural psychologist. sorry mate but your not the alpha male in your dogs eyes. the dog is.
  2. just saw a post in the for sale section, plummer, shite worker, and growled at kid. both my dogs are rescues and both have been turned into good workers. pilocks who say a dog should be put down because it cant work or it growled at his kid. the dog should have been corrected instantly by the owner for growling, a problem like this is so easyily corrected. and no dog deserves to be put to sleep for not working. dogs like terriers need to be kept in the place as they will easily take over. the dog was showing dominence over the child (basic dog psycholigy) and needs to learn that it i
  3. now before people start screaming at me, i am fully aware that traditionaly lurchers are greyhound or whippet crossess. but does anyone run dogs slightly differently i.e deerhound x collie, deerhound x bull, saluki x deerhound, saluki x collie etc etc etc. this is an interest of mine as i run a collie saluki cross that lamps rabbits regulary and been close to hares 3 times but was mooching and hares were at least 150 - 200 yeards away but still got up behind them. i dont take alot of pictures as i dont own a camera, i have one good picture of her thats been put up before. il see if i can g
  4. artfull that third dog, the pup out of the 2 above looks brilliant, realy hope she does the important bit an works well. how are the parents bred and what would that make the pup. she looks like exactly what i want.
  5. im going to be getting a pup this time next year(i want to take my time and find the right cross and breeder first so i get what i want) and was wondering. i no people use wheaton crosses for fox alot, but no one ever talks about other quarry the excel at. are they anygood at along nights lamping foxes, or pre-ban taking hares and deer, obviously some first crosses might be to heavy for hare pre-ban but what about 3/4 bred dogs. your advice would be appreciated
  6. alright lads and ladys next year im thinking about getting a new lurcher and just thought i would ask your opinion on it, im going to get a collie lurcher that is it, but what collie? i want a allrounder that will take everything. is bearded or border best, iv heard that bearded collie are abit more firey when it comes to stuff that bites back pre-ban. i have never had experiance with bearded collie lurchers so your info woould be helpfull. plus i will probably get 3/4 hound 1/4 collie what do you lot think
  7. hello all im looking to buy a woodchipper to tow behind my hilux so not a massive one. im looking for a 4inch gravity fed one similar to the timber wolf tw18 any contacts or anyone no of other treesurgens wanting to part with an old chipper iv just started out on my own so not much to spend. £1200 my limit. i no its going to be tough to meet but not to fussed about apperances. cheers lads
  8. i am looking to get a new pup, im looking for a wheaton terrier lurcher but not sure if i should go for 3/4 grey 1/4 wheaton or 1/2 grey 1/2 wheaton. what are your guys experiances with both, does the 3/4 lose any gameness? but i suppose it would make it more of a allrounder. i have not owned one of these crosses before i have seen a 3/4 run, i was wondering how heavy set the 1/2 crosses are because as a rule i prefer a 1/2 cross that is lightly built and a bitch not a dog. i never seem to bond with dog lurchers i prefer bitches but i like a male terrier your opinions on this cross
  9. right you lot, just wonted to start a debate about the weirder side of the lurcher world. there seems to be alot of debates about bullx's, colliex's, salukix's etc etc. but what about the other types that must be out there, as some of you no i keep a saluki x collie and she is a good lamper and daytime rabbiter but does anyone else keep a dog with a unuasual breed in it. i new a guy once who had an accidental breeding. it was his whippet and his mums pet poodle. turned out to be corker on rabbits and hares. i would like to see some pics of these and if they were anygood, plus if anyone
  10. my collie saluki cross is 25tts, she is better in big feilds as she has thrown heavily to the saluki side of her. i think a dog that is between 23-27 in will probably be a better alrounder not brilliant in big or small fields but can cope with both.
  11. got to agree with you mate, iv got a few mates that are not antis but its not there thing, they dont like it but no it has to be done, and wolves killing coyotes and foxs is an argument i used against them. iv seen to many foxs shot by a bad marksman, the poor fox (i say poor coz i think no animal deserves to suffer a slow painful death when all its trying to do is survive) has dragged itself off and we havnt been able to find it. id like to add it wasnt me shooting and i dont shoot over my limits. killing foxes with dogs it either gets away unharmed or is killed quickly, there is no dragging
  12. they hadnt gralloched it mate. they wont be back for it i opend it up with a stick (it stunk but i think it was the little boy in me wanting to poke something horrible) and there was all its shit in the body cavity, they must have used a couple of dogs and let the dogs rag the sh*t out of it coz all the intestines had burst. i wouldnt even use that carcass to feed my dogs. only a day or two old but still out in the elements with the guts burst and still inside the carcass for days, not worth giving my dogs somthing that might give them the runns
  13. went out this afternoon for a mooch on some land i dont have permission there but it is riddled with foot paths and as long as you stay near the footpaths the farmer doesnt notice you.i went hear coz it is close to me and plenty of bunnies. anyway after a few rabbits caught i noticed my terrier pulling something out of a dried up ditch, when i went over to see what it was it turned out to be a roe. it had bite markes on its legs and the head had been cut off, my only conclusion is that it was scum (cant even call them poachers coz if i kill something edible i eat it especially venison i lo
  14. i give my terrier and lurcher a run every morning for between 30 mins-45mins then in the evening they get between 1 1/2 - 2 hours. i live in sussex just of the south downs so it very hilly and they are running up and down the hills. running up hill works the back legs and running down works the fron legs on the weekens i am either beating on a pheasant shoot with them picking up rabbits allday while the terriers is flushing the pheasants. or mooching about my permission. the pheasant shoot lasts all day so both dogs are nakered by the end of it, think of it as a 5 hour walk. thats how my t
  15. i would love to see some pics of anyone that has owned/worked a cross like this. if she does nothing but rabbits in her working life i would still keep her, i may sound soppy but she is a right character and works her arse off, i think if she didnt work that well she would be a good pet anyway. its just good that she is a rabbit killer aswell. it may be the 8 pints of guinness talking. i will try her on red vermin with another dog this season aswell only retreiving a shot one though. anyone heard of a dog like this doing that? i talked to a bloke up the pub tonight reckoned that anything wi
  16. cheers for the reply lads, iv only had her on rabbits this season, iv been out exercising her a few times and she has coursed a few hares but they where well over 200 yards away at the time so didnt have a chance realy. i got her at just under a year, she had no training and wouldnt even sit to any comand. but she was obviously a hunter when i took her out for a walk before i got her, marking holes that usualy have rabbits in as i lamped that area before. i spent the whole of last summer training her, she now sits and stays with hand signals and walks at heel of the lead when told, rabbits are
  17. sorry lads thought i had cracked it iv always been shit on computers, gtomo whats your email adress and il email it to you so you can put it up for me if that is to much hassle for you.
  18. here is a pic of my girl meg, 1/2 collie 1/2 saluki unfortunatly i dropped my old phone along way out of a tree and i lost all my photos with her after a nights lamping with her catch, what do you think, some people iv talked to say she could be to heavy set with that much collie and no greyhound. i think she has thrown to the saluki body wise and her hair is like a border collie. has anybody got pics of a lurcher like this i would like to see them, and find out what game they could catch and how good they were at it. she is a good rabbiting dog and am going to try her on hares this week
  19. hi everyone im new to this site but hope to read and have some interesting talks with people about my dogs and yours has anyone ever heard of a 1/2 saluki 1/2 collie working. i bought one a year ago when she was 9 months old. i spent the summer training her and she has turned into a cracking dog on rabbits day and night considering there is no greyhound in her she is fast. i used to race her against my car and she would hit 40mph. she has coursed a few hares by accident, i was on land i thought there was none. the slips were very long so a a result she missed them but still got a bit of
