  1. Thanks again to all who have continued posting on this thread. Does anyone have any connections with the british alaunt society? They seem to be having problems with the site and i was wondering if another site has been set up or if any similar sites are running? Cheers Gaz
  2. Simoman, dont apologise at all mate. I have enjoyed reading all of the above posts through and have learnt alot. Cheers to all who have posted Gaz

Cheers to all who have replied, can anyone else comment on what blue coyote said about feeding ONLY eggs??? Obviously its not something i would consider (feeding an all egg diet) but its an interesting claim. I guess theres alot of protein there, but not sure about outher nutritional values of egg. Cheers Gaz
  4. BREAST any day of the week! Small and Firm OR Big and Juicy?
  5. oh [bANNED TEXT] okay, fair point. I cant realy comment, mine hasnt been pressured to that extent. Has anyone ever worked a dobe in the field out of interest? Gaz
  6. What do you mean? They are easy to brake? Easy to stop running at you? Gaz
  7. haha, fair play mate, lol. This is what i wear at weekends
  8. having read your last post i can respond better to your previous question... A guard dog to me is something which barks alot and looks the part. Even if my dobe wouldnt bite, then i dont think many people would hang around long enough to find out. Cheers Gaz
  9. Please explain simoman!!! Lol. Whats blue oyster bar??? Gaz
  10. Well im not sure what others class as a good guard?? I say that mine is and yeh she barks when someones about, in the street or whatever. But if someone knocks at the door she trys to go through it. If i open the door and someone is standing there she barks in the face, growls, lunges, and they dont stand there for long! Lol. I am 100% she would bite if needed. Gaz
  11. Then that wouldnt generally be a pet would it? Arent MOST working dogs exactly that? Working dogs which may also be good pets or house dogs? For my own circumstancies i would benefit more from a house dog which is a good guard. This would then be my companion when out in the field but not a working dog as such. Cheers Gaz

As I type this, one of mine's over on my bed, eating a bone. I give that one what is effectively three lamb chops a night. In her bowl. She Always takes them out, one after the other, and retires to my bed to enjoy each one. And yes; The head end! haha, take my hat off to you my friend! thats what i call a proper dog man, Lol. Gaz
  14. hang & bang - its not a case of NEEDING a guard dog, its just a want and a preference. Since the day i was born we've had a dog in the house. And i think if your gonna have a dog as a pet, it might as well double as a good family guard dog. I agree, dobermanns are tremendous guard dogs also. Best guard dog ive ever had. Gaz
  15. Hes a gorgeous dog, how was he bred? With you saying 50% scott and 20% greyhound? Also whats he like in the house (if you have him in the house that is)? and has he taken on much of the bulldogs personality? Thanks Gaz
  16. I enjoyed reading both of those, nice one! Cracking thread youve started lurcher lass. Used to fancy myself as a bit of a poet when i was younger. Youve got me started again so i knocked this up tonight... Morning mist, dew clustering in the grass, Waters surface dead still, sun starting to rise at last. Not seen movement since the evening before, when you took that carp from the surface, A 2 hour fight, an energy sapping struggle, but every second was worth it. The stork is watching, waiting, you know how he feels, waiting for the mornings catch, But for you it’s a ho

Cheers Ditch and Neal. DS - When i said raw meet in the house, it was more the fact of her running round the house with a meaty bone in her mouth i was thinking, She lives inside and eats inside you see. Everything you say makes sense though, i will deffo be feeding my dogs raw, not sure i will be able to convince the folks though. Its a case of 'whatever the 19 year old son says is wrong'. To prove my point - i recently got the dog a strong stuff collar and lead, much needed it was too, she pulled like mad, flipped out of normal collars and has even snapped the cheap leather
  19. Cheers for all the posts and advice. Alot of useful info and links there. Thanks again Gaz
  20. Few of my dobe here wearing her strong stuff collar :-D And one of yours truly sneeked in aswell! Lol. Gaz
  21. Thanks to all who have replied. I like the look of the boerboel. I also love american bulldogs. But i have read that ABs are not very aloof with strangers due to being very friendly. I know my EBT would of run off with a stranger and licked him to death! Lol. I have considered so far… Rottweiler Dobermann Presa Canario Cane Corso Bull Mastiff American Bulldog Boerboel I love the Bully image with bull mastiffs and American bulldogs etc. But Im also after the guarding instinct of the rotty and dobe with a good dose of obedience and brain chucked in, and withou
  22. cheers to tiny ive put that in my favourites and will have a read through there pages! OCS1867 - Im not just after a guard dog, im researching the ideal companion, house dog, guard dog etc. A fair size dog with brawn but also with brains and athletisism. I have read that rotties can be a little head strong/stubborn and not as easy to train as some breeds? But got no experience with rotties myself. I will look into the boerboel as i know very little about them. Cheers for replys! Gaz
  23. Im just after a bit of info about alaunts and bull crosses (the more bully type!) What is the main way that they are bred? What is the bull or mastiff blood in them? My folks have just got a dobermann, and her guarding instinct is fantastic. How would an alaunt compare? Do they naturally guard? Are they aloof with strangers? I have seen a few different pics of alaunts on here and also 3/4 bull 1/4 greyhound type crosses which look a nice dog. Im not looking to get one, just gathering information. I am a bully person which is why im asking about this breed, had staffys and EBT b
