bedy whippet broken front leg
baldockbanks courser replied to rabbit mad's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Had a young bitch that turned her hare went into the ditch and came out with her leg flapping in the wind. if I had a shot gun i would have shot her there and then. I didnt so i droped her of at the vets and she was later rehomed as a pet. theses are the reason i would do exactlie the same thing tommorow if I had to. 1. my dogs are 100% workers to me and if theres a chance they can not carry there job out as well as any other dog you may as well start again. 2 a dog of that age is unproven and even if healthy wont always make the grade down the line so its got even less chance on bad leg -
just read a post saying coursing men who own long dogs. ? firstlie i think long dogs has been made up and used by the likes of plummber and others (not Darcy) who write books because they keep collie cross dogs. and try to portray other crosses as brainless athletes. by writes id say only the traditional a herding dog x gry or whips a true lurcher. i class mine as lurchers, not many coursing breed dogs if you follow the lines back wont have breeds other than sight hound in. if they can do a day or nights work there a lurcher theres anoth divids as ther is!

lots of reason why they throw the towel in. one thing i can guarentie, how ever fit you get your bitch as soon as it gets hard goiong or she fills overmatched shell skid. iv give dogs benifit of the doubt that jammed on, and it might be a day a week or a year but thell do it again. once they know theres any easy way out thell take it. and yes i blame myself for causing some dogs to jack im only human and have made mistakes in the past but others do it for no apperant reason.

any tips on spotting hares
baldockbanks courser replied to rabbit mad's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
have many people on here realy ever gone coursing? 1.its best to get three of you at least if you can but sometimes when i was getting a dog fit id go on my own. 2. stand in a line so your close enougth to take runs on the hares that rise between each other say 20 to 30 meters apart. 3. look to the horizon first for any bumps or lumps of hare size. what your after is the shape of the hare or the spoil its dug out for its seat. 4. asses by its shape and colour if you think its a hare or just a clump of dirt. walk to it if it gets smaller you know its ahare shuffling down. 5. look around -
What time to go lamping at?
baldockbanks courser replied to sighthound123's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
i go about lunch time. you can see what your doing better. wont lose your lamp or car keys if you put them down. -
to be honest iv got a pair of two year old bitches ( not bulls ) that are green and havent even done what my younger 1 year old bitch has because iv been busy with work and ant had the work for all 3. so if i decided to thin out my dogs why would they be rubbish ? iv left better dogs for skiding than most computer hunters ever own and wouldnt dream of cashing a jacker. there seems to be a lot of people who like getting on there soap box on here. If for some reason i wanted a bull (I dont!} id ASK FOR A TRIAL SIMPLE. if there game and can stick at it taking hammer for a good while id buy it.

he wont lern much were he is now!Theres barlie a sheep nerar me and its a main area for hare coursing. most travellers dogs have never seen a sheep so its common sense that the feilds close to sheep arnt run to save dogs getting shot. why did you not give the dog to someone in an aribale area like where i am instead of knocking the brains out of a good game animal?

whats with the head bashing? even if some one had how would that explane a fresh eaten rabbit foot. when a ferret lays up it certainlie doesnt eat every morsal of a rabbit even fur n boans just leaving a foot and a bit of flesh in a nest!

I was being sarcastic about Penny taylor.I want to read about hard run match dogs, grafting terreirs, and storys from fellas who lamp heaps of rabbits a good few nights a week. not someone who " Dont like to hear that" when a terreir and a fox are mixing it below. as i was told by a fella who went out with her once. hows it second hand bollox then? the womens come on here and admited she dont like it. its all part of the job surlie. just like if i had a dog struggling against a good hare. if they jib they jib. youv got to be a bit hard nosed to an exctent. thankfor your essays im of coursin -

the reason i rush and buy it is the realy intrestind articals by that penny taylor women. she sounds a real extream hunter and then theres the people who put a hat on there lurcher take a picture and get a bag of dog grub. -
went out to bolt a few rabbits for young lurcher today. on a small set my ferret stayed down. now being a bit keen to use my new mk 3 i only gave her 5 or ten mins and started to dig. 12 to 18 inches broke threw to tube. theres a handful of nesting material and then my jill appears. i lift her and put my hand in tube to see if theres a rabbit backed up. i pulled the foot of a full grown rabbit out half eaten fairly fresh which my ferret must had been chewing. any one any ideas how it got there a stote or weasle perhaps ?

i cant see the point in taking a terreir ferreting at all ! 1. the cant catch a rabbit in a strait line. 2. by the time a terreir reaches a netted rabbit you may as well do it yourself. 3. the rabbits will only be fit for a stue pot. 4. You can use a lurcher to better effect in almost every situation.

most popular rabbit lamping cross.
baldockbanks courser replied to baldockbanks courser's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
no it aint the best rabbiting dogs for last hundered years have been collie xs thats not a valid argument sorry mate. 1. lamping hasnt been about 100 years. 2. salukis werent avalible in england 100 years ago to breed lurchers. all the boys used to use staghounds to course hares 40 years ago and know every seriouse course man owns a saluki x dog FACT. They dont use bow and arrow anymore they use guns, times move on ! saying that there are some excellent collie crosses still about for the rabbit man. suluki and suluki xz for coursing in a leauge of there own compared to other cr -
dogs that have done 30+ rabbits in one night
baldockbanks courser replied to Trigger's topic in Lurchers & Running Dogs
Theres not many done it, a lot more dogs have killed 5 out of 5 hares than killed 30+ rabbits in one night imo i had a thought about this the other day. what ever amounts of kills a day time coursing dog gets x that by 5 for a lamping lurcher and youd have a similar standard in each chosen disciplene. 1 hare in day or 5 rabbits in a night average/poor dog 2 hare/ 10 rabbits average/good 3 hare/ 15 rabbits good dog 4 hare/ 20 rabbits very good dog 5 hare/ 25 rabbit excptional dog 6 hare/ 30 rabbis real toppers and so on. it was only a thault and a bit of fun but it seems to convert
