if there was a perfect lurcher cross for every form of lurcher work, there wouldnt be the need for any other kind, fact is there isnt, hence the many differing crosses, some crosses excell at one discipline others at a different one. challenge your mate to some ferreting and see how he does?

you could get killed crossing the road, your dog could die after getting bitten by a rat, theres risks in everything, peronally i wouldnt let it stop me, by all means mooch along the river bank but dont go dressed like rambo, people walk there dogs as you have been doing if it kills a rat on the walk, tuff.

lol @ ditch, im not really well versed on the bible, but when you have a granny that went to church about six bloody times a week, you do pick up a few quotes after there drummend into you day and night. the ban makes little difference we have had it in scotland for a while now and like many i was against it, but in all honesty it hasnt made any difference, pubs are still as busy, you now have nice beer gardens in most with heaters and canopys and the pubs are actually nicer to be in, not so stuffy. and yes i am a smoker.

a farmer i have permission with is after a well bred patt bitch pup, must be from working stock and smoothe coated, he asked me to see if i can find him a pup and obviously as he lets me hunt his land id like to be able to help him out. a good home with the run of the farm awaits the pup, anyone with any litters in scotland? also i read from your post your trying to do this with more than one dog, when breaking them in only take one dog at a time as they will egg each other on.

should have been done as a pup, but you could try walking it through a park on a lead with sheep and constantly correcting it if it even looks there way, do this a lot then try a slighlty longer leash and so on until you feel he knows they are not on the menu.
