Can someone tell me the height from the branch to set them and the size of the snare as well please. I have set up a length of plastic 4" pipe on a piece of Hazel in a garden to lure the squirrels with hazelnuts and they are taking them but I am not too clear of the height to which to set the snares. I have read 4" to the bottom of the snare, which seems a lot. thanks

I bought two for a tricky mole. It was tunnelling along the junction between the base of a boundary wall and a stone path cemented in. I did not have the space to put a duffus or talpex in and setting traps in the nearby greenhouse and raised bed had caught nothing. So two of these set in opposition to each other in the one run caught Mr mole in two days. I got mine from ratbait or can try killgerm.

I caught a lactating female in a body grip baited with large hazelnuts, hopefully the mother of the others I am after. I also re-baited the cage trap with some sweet chestnuts and put it on the ground instead of the top of the fence. So snares did not work, peanuts caught two initially and peanut butter sandwich did not work either. Nuts to the lot of them. Topic has been suggested but are not easy to find.

Thanks Can't shoot them as the garden is too small. School nearby. I think I have educated the ones left. Left the cage trap on the ground for a week and caught nothing. Mind you if I were a squirrel I would choose Walnuts over peanuts anyday. Rigged up a pole with 4 snares on it and nothing after 2 days. Made a see saw trap and left that for two days without luck. Looks like a Kania may be the answer, if I had one.

I want to trap squirrels which live in the top of a chimney stack, which is blocked off. The squirrels have access via the two way cowling. There were six, four young and two adult. They come down the roof and along the top of the fence then hop onto a branch of the Walnut tree in the garden. I trapped two young ones in 8 hours using a cage trap which was strapped to this first branch. But the others avoided the cage for two days so I put it on the ground by the trunk, with no success after a day. So I have to compete with the Walnuts for the best food. the cage is baited with peanuts i

Where is the best place to get wire and ferrules to then be able to peg the traps down. I have had duffus ones taken by Charlie or Brock and now have two trapline trpas so I don't want to lose them. Ta

If you cannot access the entrance of a nest from the outside, eg awkward roofing, but you can access it from the attic for example is it sensible to push the tip of a dust stick into the nest and pump and do you get a load of wasps coming out? Just asking in case I come across this situation.
-
Definitely not workers, I killed both of them and had a dead worker for comparison, there was a big difference in size between the worker and the queens.

I attended a rural property to rid a wasp nest. The owner had only seen the nest and wasps from the inside so I took a look in the loft. It was a small nest on the breathable white roofing felt either side of a rafter, the nest could have been on the other side of the felt as well perhaps? Thenest was not very large, a shallow dome about 5-6" diameter and about 2-3" outwards. I had a look outside and they were going in under a Double Roman tile. I applied some powder on the inside and saw two queen wasps crawling on the felt which is strange as only one queen is present this time of year

That is excellent John, so easy as well. What are the cage dimensions, it looks like 3 foot by 3 foot by 6 foot. Did you make it according to the size of the sheet of weld mesh you had to minimise cutting. Cable ties and weld mesh, nice and easy. I know your in Ireland but where do you get the weld mesh and how much is it? It has to be big enough to get into to grab the birds though.

Ball of fuid inside a pregnant rabbit
jackg replied to jackg's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Thanks for the help, I would be guessing otherwise, its now fox bait -
A pregnant rabbit I head shot last night had a clear ball of fluid inside it. The liver wrapped round it, it was not the bladder. It was about 1.1/4" diameter and when I poked it with a sharp knife clear fluid came out and it deflated itself. Bunny was in good condition otherwise, fetuses were about 1/2" long so not very big. Its teats looked swollen as if other young had been feeding on them, not sure if this happens in reality. No fleas I could see no other diseases such as mixy either. I shot it with a .222 and then gutted it and removed what was left of its head, then hung it up o

When I cook rabbit for stew or pie I cook it twice. I joint it then soak it then cook it in the oven. Then when cool I flake the meat off the bones and then make it into a pie with the other ingredients. Do you cook the rabbit meat once or twice as once cooking leaves it tough and chewy?

I thought old wasps nests deterred queens building a nest in the vicinity? So best to leave it where it is.

The other way is to remove two or three combs from the brood and upend the skep into the brood chamber. I helped my Father to collect a swarm in late April which had gathered on an umbrella shade in the local pub garden. One of the easiest to collect.

jackg replied to stalker58's topic in Reloading and Gun Maintenance
There is a for sale section on this site. www.airgunbbs.com is probably a better place to advertise or www.ukvarminting.co.uk -
Don't forget to ask for a sound mod as well. There is a guide to filling out form 101 on the BASC web site

please can I come and shoot you????
jackg replied to hollie.vincent87's topic in Deer Stalking & Management
You might be better off asking on www.thestalkingdirectory.co.uk. There are not too many deer in Cornwall, although a few folk on that board shoot them in Devon. Search for IanF or just ask, very helpful lot. -
Assuming a mark 1 with a Gamo trigger then £450 for the gun. the mags sell for £35 each. .20 is not as popular as .22. Ask on rapid7 forum.

I lifted all the traps to do a job for the farmer on whose land I shoot and got nine moles in two fields. So the traps had been in the soil and some had scent of other moles on them. Meantime the mole had made four tumps so I set five traps and got it with a talpex placed between two tumps. It looked normal like other moles, alittle bigger than some, two front feet and two rear, black and nothing special about it. So that's 50 on that piece of land since Jan 2010.

That sounds about right. Same thing here then. Thanks
