I was thinking more of kids getting exploited , i know its experience for them but surely they cant be expected to work 8 hrs for example in all weathers for a couple of quid & a drink of pop There not expected to, its really not like a job at all, not like your employed or anything just turn up. If they want to go they can, most kids are with parents anyway. ATB, HJ I would agree; BUT then if people expect a "wage" structure, maybe it then becomes a job of sorts, taxes get paid and rules and regs enforced. Or maybe not and the above holds true!

Yes, just click on the prog and it will play

Some good replies; many have asked the same question I guess I'd like to see answered. Kay asked about working hours etc? Compo about tax etc? If beating is not a job, but a hobby; do working hours come into it (or even the minimum wage question?) Should we declare this "income"? There is no doubt that beating costs more than it "pays" - fuel, dog food, vets bills, clothing etc etc, so from that point of view it might be beneficial! Animal cruelty is not going to work for the antis; but getting onto the tax bandwagon as Animal Aid are doing will cause genuine trouble. If paymen

There has been a lot of debate about this topic recently, directly and indirectly. I was interested to see statistically if you like, what peoples feelings are on the subject. It would be interesting to hear your thoughts as well as seeing how the poll develops. Especially, those who beat a lot and earn (comparativly) a lot of money from it. Does anyone here declare the earnings they recieve? If they are rewarded financially? What are peoples thought on financial payment as a whole given that many see beating as a hobby to be enjoyed, as is shooting - but guns pay for their sport.

check out www.nobs.org hope this helps davy NOBS will cost you money to "join"; and their forum is about to be (if not recently changed) changed so only paid up organisation members can use it; by all means check them out, the more places you look and ask the better your chances. Click on the link in my signature to the PuBS (Pickers-up Beaters Shoots) forum. Specifically launched last summer to provide a link between those seekeng oportunities in beating and picking up (especially novices) and shoots seeking those services. It is still in its infancy but there are plenty on there

Well said. I wasnt sure if the orriginal post was stating a situation and asking members opionion, but the more it went on it was clearly just a sounding off. Can we all please take heed of some of the good adviice on here, for the benefit of all our sport.

Qute agre; we are all no matter what area of field sports we partake in, suffering because of this act (as are the foxes etc) and other recent daft laws seemingly weighed against rural communities and field sportsmen. But just because the type of hunting you do may be "banned" does not mean its acceptable to fight against other in a similar boat; the happy medium must be saught. The way some people talk you'd think there is not a keeper in the country with a terrier, running dog, spade or Deben collar! There is a place for everyone to have the sport they want; but we must all reali

Has this been posted to warn land managers in the area of the threat of deer poaching, or to warn poachers in the area that Plod are on the case?

Know Oswestry well; used to run my business from there. Some very good shooting to be had in the area. Not the Brynkynallt shoot is it? -
I'm not sure its fair to say keepers get off on chasing poachers, but sure enough it is part of their job in many regards. Poach or don't poach. Hunt or not. Like or loath the stupid ban; we are all afected by it in diferent ways and for the most part we will all continue to "hunt" in whatever form we choose. But I see nothing to be gained except bad feeling and negativity (within field sports, and the public opinion) if we continue to piss on each others chips. Ask permision, work with those who either own or manage the land, invairably they will havbe a financial commitment to th

Well said from someone in that position. Its that f**k 'em attitude which causes keepers/owners to not trust or want anyone there in the first place, the whole reason many have a negative impression, which is only a bad thing for all.

Who does? Keepers?!

In that case just don't get bubbled then....... It would be much better if in situations like this both sides could work together; far too often we hear similar stories, and taking the line of f**k it I'll carry on and f**k them if they have a problem, I'll just have their birds (not aimed at you directly) does none of us any favours, and invairably someone looses out in the end. its far easier to work with , than against I think so too; and certanly has a better outcome in the long run.

I have to agree with others; he (the keeper) is doing his job. Doubtless the shoot are paying for the rights on the land and the keeper is managing the land/vermin acordingly. I can see your argument also though. Get your permission in writing; to include any changes for seasons or not and you'll be in the right. There is no argument that shooting is more important than digging, but where shoots are concerned, invairably they will have a written lease of some sort, money will be exchanged and responsability for conservation and vermin control apointed accordingly. Maybe you cou

What do you get for beating ?
The Sporting Agent replied to Teesdale-rabbiter's topic in General Talk
There are a couple in interestin threads on this subject here: PuBS Forum - Beaters Payment Shooting Community - Beating Thread From what I hear this season, shoots I know of are paying about 20-25quid, where they pay. Others are offering free food and a beer coupled with a beaters day. I have to admit to being torn on the idea of "payment"; I hate the thought that some expect to be paid (see it as a given, a must) , or even turn down a days beating because the "money is crap"; when others are desperate to get out beating but cant find opportunities. That said, as a gun I t -

This kind of shit was one of the reasons I gave up shooting about 12 years ago. Too many bizzybodies/do gooders interfereing or reporting lawfull sporting activities. + copper waiting behind my car for over 2hrs at the entrance to a country lane when he saw a gunslip accross the front seat of the car, (something I always did to suggest to walkers that there was a man with a gun about} Today I am more resilient, why should anyone get in the way of my lawfull persuance of my recently renewed involvement in shooting? Cyclonebri; I'm sorry if you think what I've psted is "bizzybodie/do goo -

The Sporting Agent replied to hotel2zero's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Certanly ask your FLO, if he his uniform Plod he'll be able to give you the sp on what to if you have a firearm in your possetion etc. If its Section 24 (arrest and detain) you want to know about, he may not be the best person to ask, as its probably not something he would know about on a day to day basis; likewise the Occupiers Liability side he possably is not the best to ask; but there is certanly no harm him picking his brains. -

TSA - thanks for your............ No problem. The Act, as with all similar is bloody lengthy although there are bits to be found online. If you PM me specific questions I will try and answer them, or at least give you an idea of which sections of the Act are rellevent so you can look them up. ATB Just a link to any of the pace act would be great, i'm sure i'll spend hours reading through it and trying to make sence of it all! And after a £10,000 operation involving the chopper the scum probably got a suspended sentence A pair of good Dobermans would have s -

TSA - thanks for your very true input into this matter, would you be able to supply a link to the above section of the P.A.C.E.Act please? I've tried looking on the pace website but only seem to get chapters. Thanks again No problem. The Act, as with all similar is bloody lengthy although there are bits to be found online. Help with thugs and the LAW
The Sporting Agent replied to hotel2zero's topic in Rimfire, Centrefire & Shotguns
Guys this is clearly a hot topic, but lets not beat about the bush; there are laws that exist to cover incidents such as this, they are not clear but they exist and any infringement (particularly where a firearm is concerned) will have huge reprocusions for the person concerned but also potentially for all firearms owners. Suggestions such as, use an alarm mine, show them yau have a gun etc etc do not help. I would suggest anyone who seriously feels they need cover because of situations such as this happening, read the P.A.C.E Act of 1984, this covers an individuals right to detain/arr -
Certanly would not have been overly happy had that happened to me; but a point of note from what has been posted above - these police officers are "real" police, British Transport Police are specifically tasked with policing transport systems, a big part of which is anti-terrorism work, as I think the officer said they are part of the CT unit. Under the terrorism laws stop & search teqneques are allowed without reason. As for performing a citizens arrest (Any Person Arrest) on the officer; would not work for one second. The P.A.C.E Act, wich governs citizens arrests is complex but you can
