Some years ago I took my then girlfriends brother out ferretting with disastrous goings on .He was fine all morning and well interested in the proceedings. After a quick bite to eat we netted up a smallish bury and I asked him to get the hob out the carry box as he hadnt seen anything all morning. He held it while I collared him up.I then checked round to make sure no holes were missed but got diverted by screams from the lad.Somehow the hob had hold of his face ,right through the cheek. The lad wouldnt stand still for me to have a look and danced about holding or rather pulling at the ferret whi

Exellent advice for anyone mate .Should anyone feel the need to "stretch" the law and finds themselves in a sticky situation, without the written permission, you can be sure that other charges of perhaps poaching or armed trespass will be added until the matter is resolved [or not].

Its not necessarily the size of the dog that determines whether or not it gets pushed about.Weve all heard the saying"not the size of the dog but the size of the fight in the dog".There was never a truer word spoken. You are right about vixens though, fiesty little feckers they can be.

Some may put down the hard dog as a liability,it is personal choice, but lets not forget that most decent working terriers are a result of breeding to a hard dog.If bayers are bred continually then Im afraid the standard does drop.

Nice way of thinking mate-foxdropper

J.D-Tried the leave longer trick but the bitch is hard and I live with it.The depth of the dig and what I come across on the way down determines the length of time she is to ground. The main thing to me is that she stays until dug to .

Cheers mate

I think the thing to do is MAKE SURE YOU HAVE IT IN WRITING.Mate of mine was recently "apprehended" leaving his ground ,some busybody having phoned the law. They wanted to know what hed been up to with his 2 lurchers, the 1 being marked up slightly. He replied that hed been rabbitting and showed them the written permission. The coppers soon lost interest and he was on his way,on foot.

If its just for gutting rabbits, buy a cheep stanley knife and load it with the hooked blades. They go in easy and the bonus is they dont rip the guts. cheers foxdropper.

Dont wish to sound a knowall but -pups do not need jabbing until they are 8weeks old.Up until this time they are covered by the bitches antibodies ,passed to the pups from the bitches colostrum[first milk available to pups].This colostrum contains antibodies against all the diseases the bitch has been in contact with.At 8 weeks the antibodies passed to the pup by the bitch are sufficiently weekened to allow us to jab the youngster with the 3 main diseases in this country, namely- parvo-virus,kennel cough and leptospirosis[wiels disease].Jab a pup any younger than 8weeks and the antibodies from

The reason I thought this was shite was because my dogs are kennelled and Im not affected by the scratchings of nettles stings in the house .Never gave it a thought that other people would be affected. As to my account of my dig,I may not be the best at putting actions into readable text but it was a true account of what occured.Like I said before ,anybody wishing to have a dig down with us is more than welcome .Im sure we could set up a secure meet somehow .Cant say fairer than that can I.Mik from whales -COME ON DOWN.

Quality pics mate, looks like you have a cracking team around you

One more thing-If you kow the dog is hard and you know the quarry and the earth why prolong the enevitable.Get down to the dog ,do the deed and save the dog for another dig.Im not knocking the long digs, we all enjoy them and can be proud of our dogs for it ,after all thats what we have all strived for over the years, adog that will stay until dug to but to sit back and let a hard dog get smashed is foolish and serves no purpose at all.My terriers will work until exausted but once settled in a place ,the digging begins to minimise the lay up period after wards.Save the cups of coffee for after

f**k me look at the time .!

there are plenty of hard, small dogs about, what sorts these into another category is whether or not the smaller dogs get pushed about at all.Just because a dog likes to mix it ,latch on, dosnt mean it can keep the quarry in a stop end to be dug, especially if the quarry has seen a dog before.A bit of weight behind any dog does no harm,PROVIDING THE DOG WANTS TO BE THERE.The baying dogs O.K in my books but they need to bay right up to it and be prepared to mix it on the break through.Dogs that stand off abit are the ones that are prepared to back up when rushed and at worst let quarry pass them.D

Next time take him out ferretting rats ,at least they dont get mixie.

Our local vet tells me the symptoms of bird flu to look out for in humans are-swollen heads and irritated glans, personally Ive got nothing to worry about as it only affects the small cocks of a species!

tape some socks to your dogs feet and one on their tales in winter. :11: I agree SHITE post.

Just an observation, but I would have thought it was commen sense to put your dogs on leads IF THERE WAS THE SLIGHTEST CHANCE OF MEETING OTHER DOG WALKERS.My pat terrier was savaged by a black lab when she was a pup,she was on the lead and the lab came charging round a blind corner.I could see it was not going to be a playful greeting but couldnt get the bitch off the ground in time.Bloody thing picked my pup up and shook it before a swift kick sent it back from where it came .Whilst I was checking mine out ,a bloke came round the corner and asked me what Id done to HIS dog .As you can imagine

Kye-Not sure who you are but when you lived in Swindon ,did you know a lad called Steve Y--.Used to work with him as a keeper over near Cirencester.Well into his terriers and liked the moonlight digs!

Wazcor-Not quite V.W.H but in between there and the A.V.H.

Nice to see you boys getting along again[honest].Sorry if I caused a stir by printing my dig in a way not all of us could appreciate. The type of digging we tend to do nessatates the on dark aproach.but not because we have no business to be there.Anybody wishing to make the journey to Wiltshire would be more than welcome, providing the invite was returned! Its good to see peoples dogs in action and the way they treat situations. The bitch I was using last sunday has 2 totally different voices depending on what shes at which is why I like to listen at holes. In future my posts will be more reader f

I love listening to the sound of terriers making contact and working their quarry its what makes us feel alive.Perhaps some on here dare not waste a second listening and have to dig straight away incase their dogs come away. <{POST_SNAPBACK}> some of us have dogs that dont make a sound they get in latch on and do the job .......... <{POST_SNAPBACK}> totally agree.good shout.
-
Cheers mate, the 2 dog tommies of this world have all shut up.
-
RobW71.Hardly ever use nets.Crack shot with the gun and anyway I dont kill everything the terriers go to as you can only kill them once.this paticular time the desire to see a result got the better of me.
