  1. Good news on the all clear Chalky mate all the best to you and your lass One thing i have noticed when folks have stuck to a line how the dominant characteristics seem to throw through they often resemble each other due to this smaller legs bigger flatter skulls thick skin and feet that can run anywhere also a lot end up smooth coated my old line came off the travellers so they had to be of a tough constitution and the natural abillity is there no need for training as such as its more or less programmed in them. I lost the strain a few years back and it nearly broke me when youve had somet
  2. You cant beat being dog daft I totally see where your coming from with the smaller types for rabbits i dont think they can be beaten and apart from the beddy whippets seem to have gone out of fashion as kids we all had whippet collie crosses they could catch bunnys for fun little enough to work in deep cover too bramble or dog rose never phased em. Not many big dogs can compete with a good little un i like a good mongrel as im still into a bit of variety but i can see myself ending up with something small now the years are starting to tell a good old pottering dog as we used to call em su
  3. A tidy pair of juks them Whats the oldest strain you know of Chalkwarren me old mushti Oldest i know of is 75 years in the making im sure there will be a few older than that about.
  4. Stress is good but ive found it better to give em calcium tablets with vit D but only if you think there not getting a good enough supply from their food too much is as bad as to little i have always supplimented pups up to ten months and you can see the difference in the end better bone and size and i aint never had much happen in the way of breaks even with some horrific collisions ive often thought calcium has helped
  5. Auto on ours then down to low when i get in unless its cooked what size pot you using mines a 3 litre and dont lose hardly any liquid at all makes enough for three days for three people and gravy for chips on the fourth
  6. Cheers Lennard shouldnt mind a brindle waistcoat
  7. Headed like a snake Neck like a drake Backed like a beam Sided like a bream Tailed like a rat Footed like a cat Originally written by an old abbess in something like the 14th century Hers another Always tip the bitch up by the back legs after shes been mated for an extra pup how the feck do you know if that works or not
  8. Nice types all of them im a big fan of old lines of dogs the older the better by what ive seen it would be interesting to actually see how old some of the strains are.
  9. Its from an old saying about greyhounds Headed like a snake Neck like a drake Backed like a beam Sided like a bream Tailed like a rat Footed like a cat or something like that Heres an old one light coloured eyes dont see at speed as well as dark coloured eyes i can remember that as a young un round the greyhound lads when on about blue dogs with light eye colour
  10. Only reason ive never wanted a white dog is the fact that i wouldnt be confident of being able to dissapear if it came on top at night ive avoided keepers by covering the dogs eyes and keeping my own head down in the hedgebottom the thought of having to lie on the dog to cover its outline has always put me off.
  11. Was on about this the other day Skycat im in total agreement the more years in a strain the better. Watched the video of that red dog on the hare the ther day it was a good hare never mind the dog i didnt reckon owt to the paki slamming it into the floor after
  12. Your feeding her too much tyson No seriously my old line of dogs all stashed food and the pups no different if theres excess about its totally natural i honestly believe in some cases they prefer flesh rotting as it was meat theyd bury most not a good habit if your gonna take the dog out at any time only to find theyve dug up their stash and eaten it Just feed her less mate dogs will eat a lot more than they actually need and if theres a good supply its only natural to save some for later i like things like that in a strain like a bitch that throws up for her pups all good signs to me mat
  13. Ive had dogs pee blood when theyve had hard courses and being run every day of the week but always they would start like this on the land or soon as they got back and this normally clears up in 24 hours. They also lose pressure i give em pearl barley cooked in their food when theyve been peeing blood helps flush the kidneys through. If its not stopped in 48 hours or looks like its getting worse dont mess get to the vets.
  14. Excellent read Meerihunter and some great hounds I think the true Afghan has been overlooked a lot in this country and could have a lot to offer one of the toughest working dogs i ever had the pleasure of knowing was an afghan cross. For three years he was top dog of the free festival sites no mean feat and the amount of game mainly vennison and hare he took helped feed a small army as it were the dog was probably the gamest ive ever encountered and living rough a dead ringer for the native dogs he was dreaded like them earning him the name Rasta.
  15. Glad to hear the dogs on the mend Mine sometimes get something simmilar with their pads being hard and working brambles which puncture the pad then it fills up with grit walking home ive found Magnesium sulphate paste or kaolin poultice draws anything and dont cost a lot from the local chemists both are under a fiver and last a good while.
  16. Me too im always looking for alternative recipes
  17. Well smart them bitches are Chester all the best with em mate
  18. Now thats some doggy them Karabash are the same and some of them big afghan shepherd dogs bred for that sole purpose. The Afghans test their dogs against each other in the manner you describe Vladamir
  19. Once saw a mounted timber wolf head at chatsworth massive is the word that comes to mind
  20. Great pic JD Be good to get one in the snow in a sit ive often seen em and all you can see is the bit where their breath has melted the snow in front of their mouth often thought id like to see that in a photo sadly no snow for years round our way.
  21. Dont know how your getting mush unless your cutting everything too small all veggies should be no less than 3/4 of an inch square and if its a little crock pot half inch is better. Like Ditch and a few others ive been into em for years best bit of kit in our kitchen and no more tough meat ideal for the mouching game i can be out as long as i want knowing theres a proper meal at home that dont have to be nuked or re heated in any way. Ours is on all winter i put a pound of mince with anything im cooking wether its venny or rabbit or beef makes a proper gravy. Ditch Cheers for the link mate

  25. Interesting point about the season as there used to be a product on the market for stopping the worry of a bitches season it was called amplex and were tablets of chlorophil as i remember they were supposed to stop other dogs smelling the bitch in heat and help the bitch through her season. ive also read grass stops dogs smelling doggy as it were so there could be a connection there. like brock says you can do a lot with feeding and conditioning a dog and a dog exercised daily shouldnt get gastric flux but on days off thats when bile builds i stopped vomiting with soda crystals as it takes t
