No chance of the BNP winning any seats. Lots of shifty looking candidates hovering in the background embarrassed by their poor performance. It looks like we won't know what we've got until later on the weekend. Gordon is reluctant to admit defeat.

Duckwing, I've never made any secret of my support for the Conservatives. They are the best of a bad lot IMO, and in terms of priorities, for me, at the moment, they 'tick the box'. I'm in business, and the Conservatives offer me more hope of survival that the others. Immigration is an issue for me, but I'd never vote BNP. I was thinking about this thread on my way to work this morning (sad, isn't it), and to be honest, I'd rather people voted BNP than sat on their arses and didn't vote at all. As for the scumbag who spat at the candidate, his racial background doesn't matte

Sorry, but if you seriously want to do something to stop the uncontrolled immigration into the UK, then you should be voting for the Conservatives. OK, they won't condone stopping immigration completely, or ship what some think of as 'undesirables' back to where they came from, but that's a pipe dream for some anyway. At least under the tories there would be some control, and a limit placed on the numbers of people coming. The BNP have no realistic chance of getting any real power (thank god), and voting for them is a waste of pencil lead. The fact that they actively support the R

The BNP support the RSPCA, who campaign against hunting. Therefore, if you support the BNP, you support the RSPCA. Don't waste your vote on the BNP.

Yep, well done Rainmaker. It just shows what can be done if you keep things sensible, and debate fully. Those who are left in the anti camp are starting to look silly now. Keep up the good work!
-
Hooray! We've 'turned' an anti!!! Get voting folks!

That is one hell of a funny forum lol. I'm doing my best, but you know what they say; 'you can't educate pork'..... Very, very funny thread.

Duckwing I'm glad it isn't just me. I've got an open mind. I realise that there is good and bad in all communities, but I think that hiding behind the 'race' card is wrong. The book was a real eye opener for me, although very disturbing. I think a few people who have a romantic view of the Gypsy race should read the book and find out some truth. As for dumping dogs, we all know it happens, and I guess that some people value their liberty more than their animals. Me, I'd do time for my animals.

Has anyone read 'Gypsy Boy' by Mikey Walsh? Very interesting read about a gypsy who was subjected to sexual and physical abuse by his community. The book also shows that criminality and the gypsy lifestyle go hand in hand. I had to put the book down several times as the detail of his abuse was quite sickening.

As fish suggests, a seesaw is a good way. You could also try a few fenn MkIV's in wooden tunnels strategically placed.

Check any manholes you have, and if necessary test bait them with whole wheat or similar. I've recently completed a job where the rats were using a faulty drainage system to gain entry to the wall cavity, and then the roofspace. Look for droppings on the benching of the manholes, and other debris. If in any doubt, call in a professional. Don't take risks with your health by trying to sort this out yourself.

A 'grass'? How do you make that out? I've not named the site concerned, or the admin (who is a member here), I posted to see if it was just me that thought it was wrong. As stated earlier, I also thought it was ironic that there was a healthy debate on here about the rights and wrongs of killing rabbits in the summer, while over there people are congratulating a member who is taking game birds during the breeding season. I could have just kept quiet about it, but chose to post the question on there, and got a ban for my troubles. The site is well known, and I left once befo

You're right. Admin should know better; but here is his reply: I used to respect this fella, but it seems that he can't enforce his own forum rules, and thinks that anyone who abides by the law and doesn't take game during the breeding season must be 'hoi poloi'....... No names at this stage, but I thought it was more than a little ironic that there is a thread on here criticising a pest controller for killing rabbits during the summer months, and at the same time, there is a thread on there all about killing gamebirds with catapults during the summer!

I've just read a topic on another forum, where the poster is bragging about catching pheasants and mallard out of season. While I understand that some people poach for the pot, I was brought up to believe that you didn't take game during the breeding season, so I posted a reply: Straight away, the forum admin has removed any further right to reply by me on that thread, and the original poster has replied with this: I've PM'd the site admin, but as yet have received no reply. To me, it isn't the legalities that are most important but the morality. The original poster

It is an offence under the Wildlife and Countryside Act 1981 to use any live animal as bait for a trap. If you don't know of a local terrierman, you may well pick it up on a dawn stalk. A few strategically placed wires around a shoot can pay for themselves in no time at all. Tramlines in growing corn, the gap between the electric fence and your pen wire, and runs through hedges are the obvious places to use. The last thing you need when trying to preserve game is a litter of cubs in the vicinity. For fox wires, go to Trapworks

I've kept quiet on this one because I can see both sides of the argument. There is no doubt that there is a huge difference between those who hunt the humble coney for sport, and those who provide a service to control their exploding population. When a pest controller is asked to control a growing rabbit population, he (or she) is likely to get short shrift from a landowner if he suggests that it would be a good idea to allow the rabbits to breed freely during the summer months. Having said all that, there is no doubt that bringing down the viable population of breeding adults duri

Occupiers of land are legally obliged to control rats. If they won't do anything about it, contact your local authority and they will enforce the law. Anyone with rats in and around their dwelling should go to the LA as the first step. They usually offer free, or subsidised visits to deal with rats.
-
I think some contributors don't know or care that the antis are constantly watching sites like this and looking for pictures and posts that they can use against us. Just look at the forum today. We have a picture of two cocks fighting, and an idiot openly telling everyone he breaks the law. Think before you post, and if you aren't capable of working out the potential consequences, then don't post at all.
-
 This is getting boring now........ Now who's 'twisting things'? What you describe is a completely different scenario to cage trapping rats and releasing them to waiting terriers. You scenario of rats backed up in a stop end would not result in the law being broken either. 'Baiting' is completely different from encouraging a rat to leave it's natural habitat. I really think that you should study the legal aspects of catching rats before commenting further. As for me, I've made my point, and offered some sensible advice to the original poster. Time t

Twist your words? Lets just look again at your original post: What you suggested is illegal. Then you say: Which looks to the casual reader like you know of no other way to start off a terrier..... Now you are suggesting that: How? I've done many 'mornings ratting', and I can't remember ever having to break the law to do it.
-
So, lets get this right, you think that the only way to start a terrier off on rats is to release a cage caught rat for them to kill? The natural instinct of a terrier is to chase rats, and if you know what you are doing, it is easy to expose a young dog to plenty of rats. Sooner or later they 'connect'. Do you train your fox dogs by 'bagging' a fox, or chucking a cub into a barrel? I doubt it. But then, it's rats we are discussing, and people rarely credit them with any right to humane treatment. The law is the law, and the law concerning the release of trapped animals
-
I have kept working terriers all of my life. I start them off within the law, and suggest you do the same.
-
It is illegal to release any captured animal (including rats) for a waiting dog to kill.
-
:icon_eek: That has got to be one of the most dangerous suggestions I've ever seen on THL. DO NOT use anti freeze. It is very toxic, and tasteless. You will more than likely kill every dog, cat and possibly child that goes anywhere near it. Either buy some amateur use rodenticide and follow the instructions to the letter; or call in a professional. Most local authorities control rats free of charge, or at least subsidise the service. If you do call in a professional, take a look on THIS website which has a directory of BPCA and NPTA members who are qualified and insured.
