    Sparrowhawks

I would second that. I had one for a season a good few years back and loved every minute of it. Very hard to get them manned properly, but well worth it in the end. It's like having a Scud missile in the palm of your hand! Ferret
  2. Some folk stick in frozen 3 litre water bottles for then to snuggle up to and keep cool. I must admit, I've tried it this year and they do tend to like them. Ferret
  3. I bought a copy off e-bay for a couple of quid. It makes a very good, entertaining read. Well worth it. Ferret
  4. My Brittany bitch (7 yrs) is epileptic. She has 'petite-mal' fits where her teeth chatter and her forehead spasms. She can still move the rest of her body and is conscious throughout, but it was quite strange the first time it happened! They last for about 30 seconds or so and occur a few times a week on average (That I know of). Ferret
  5. I'm having the same problem with one of my jills. She was jill jabbed exactly 6 weeks ago and today began harassing the jill she lives with, dragging her round etc. Can the jabs create a pseudo-pregnangy type thing, even though she's not been mated/hobbled? Cheers Ferret
  6. Most ferrets will bimble on down a hole and flush bunnies out for you. Some will do it at speed, some will take their time to clear each level, some will wander about ramdomly until they come across a rabbit. Most ferrets will work to some extent, as their natural curiosity will get the better of them. If you're after workers, buy kits from working stock i.e mum and dad are proven rabbiters. It's not always as cut and dry as that, but it's a good place to start. If you buy shit, you generally get shit. Having said that, I have a hob who is mainly a pet and hardly ever worked. When I d
  7. My missis was brought up on a farm. Her folks collie nailed one of their chickens on one occasion, so the mother-in-law tied it round the dogs neck for a week. The dog never looked at a chicken again! I believe that the ram idea would work well. Other than that use the leccy collar. Ferret.
  8. *** is the dirtiest word of them all!! Ferret

    Laptops

I use a laptop. You can stick it in a cupboard when you're not using it,so it doesn't clutter the place up. I think I'd have another one if this on blew up.
  10. I like dirty girls aparrently! Game on!
  11. Nice one P&G. Not being a snaring man, do you have a piccie of a breakaway in action, to satisfy my curiosity. Cheers Ferret
  12. How do they work then? I've never heard of one! Ferret
  13. FAC .22 'RWS Excalibre' with a Deerhunter 3-9x50 scope. Works well with accupels and copperpoints. Ferret

    bedding

My kennel is 6' x 8'. They have an old double matress on the floor, covered in hay and straw. The old girl seems to like it! Ferret
  15. Most noticeably, her vulva will swell and a slight discharge may be visible. She will lick herself more regularly, as this will keep her clean. You may also notice a slight change in her moods, due to the hormones surging through her body. How old is she? Bitches generally have between one and two seasons a year, depending on the breed.
  16. It depends on the dog. Each dog marks in a different way, there are no hard and fast rules. When she acts in a certain way consistantly, you can take this to mean she's marking. My Brittany will sniff round, then sit and stare at a hole.Others will look at the hole, then at the handler, then back at the hole etc. So it does depend on the dog. Look at her carefully when she's around a warren and try to pick up on the slightest movements/actions she displays. She'll let you know some how! Ferret
  17. In all the years I've worked ferrets, I've never starved them prior to working. I make sure they always have food (dried) and fresh water available. The only time I've ever had to dig is when they are caught in a stop and physically can't get out. The most important thing, I feel, is make sure that they are well socialised and are happy coming to your hand. I'm working with one of last years kits at the moment who is a bugger at coming to hand, but that's because she is loving the work side of things, rather than being a pain! The hungrier a ferret, the more likely it is to lay up
  18. She looks just like my blue dog. What lines is she mate? Ferret
  19. I'd be interested in the longnet BigEd if you're serious about getting rid of it. Ferret
  20. A piccie would help, so we can see how bad/deep the cut is. Ferret
