I agree with this 100% but to keep them at a truely high level for very long at all is almost impossible. A year or two is the most you will ever get out of any dog. But.......like I always say, anybody is welcome to prove me wrong at any time.
Best sighthound type dog I have ever seen. I think he's borzoixwolfhoundxgreyhoundxbulldog/greyhoundxdeerhound.
That's what I was told on the internet anyhow.
Hey partner, I aint sayin you are doin it wrong and I would never tell another man how to raise or keep his dogs. I'm just sayin that it aint no big deal lightly startin a young dog at a young age if they are the right kind. Dont mistunderstand me though, I would never tell you how to play the game.
I know nothing about coursing dogs but if you cant lightly start a dog at 7 or 8 months on rabbits then I'd be lookin for better dogs. I start mine on coyotes at that age with two older dogs and they best be firing into them or they aint stayin here long. And........if they get bit a few times here and there then so be it, they best get over it or they are culls.
Dont know what it does to prey drive but my dogs couldnt handle what we do if they were housedogs. They live out in their kennels in their dog house. They got straw in there for them to lay down in but no heat lamps or anything else. A house dog would never make it with me cuz they couldnt handle the hunting we do.
All I'm sayin is that if the dog is useful to you that surely a pup out of him has the potential to be useful to you as well. I dont let percentages and what the cross is on paper dictate how I breed or hunt dogs. I use what I have and breed what I use. If more folks would take this approach at breeding hunting dogs and put the calculator and the theories to rest, they'd be much better off.
as a lamping dog for rabbits nd mix bag filler, they would outperform a bullxgrey.but as a out nd out fox dog,no i dont thinck they would,,,is that what you ment dan?
Ya, I guess thats what I meant. Its been awhile since I posted that.
One thing that always cracks me up is when folks say that foxhound lurcher types would be too yappy behind their quarry. I always get a chuckle out of that cuz nothing could be further from the truth. I grew up around these kinda dogs and I cant recall a single one of them that was like that. Some of the roughest dogs I ever seen in my life were bred just like this.
Is it possible to legally run a wolf with dogs anywhere in North America Dan?
Has anybody actually tried it in more recent years? I dont doubt what you say for a second, just wondering.
It may be in Wyoming but I have no clue.
