  1. Is anybody at that age where you have a slight dread of the impending hangover that you know you're going to be suffering tomorrow or are you all past that stage? ?
  2. Just shows that nothing is straight forward when breeding dogs and best to best doesn't always work. It's the same with gamedogs, certain dogs click and others don't, lesser dogs can and do produce better than world beaters, I suppose it's the same with running dogs. Just because you breed the best hare catcher with the best hare catcher that doesn't mean they will produce better pups than mating with something that clicks.
  3. Comes down to the weight of the dog again doesn't it, their feet take a good hammering on hard tracks like that compared to the much lighter hare.
  4. Talking about slop favouring a hare, real hard ground also does. Hare is flying. ?
  5. Looked decent for what it was, still, the saluki cross didn't look all too special on that clip.
  6. Which dog did you run, bang a pic up of it. Tonight it sounds like the beginning of the end for these saluki types. ? Was the saluki type off well known names or just down off show type?
  7. That's what I don't get, aren't these types meant to be proper hardy dogs or am I missing something? Maybe if you breed to tight things start to pack in and fall apart.
  8. Eh, thoughts of saluki are tiring you out mate, must be the whippet in ya? ?
  9. MP also said that's where lads are going wrong, they are putting coursing types back to pure saluki and they just aren't fast enough.
  10. Yeah I don't think the dog looked very special tbh but it does show the difference. Tbh I was surprised to see the Greyhound/Whippet hang on as long as it did.
  11. That bad? That's what I can't get my head around mate, you'd think they would be much better than a 3/4 collie x greyhound at catching hares. I mean I caught quite a few with my old dog out on mooches but he wasn't an out and out hare dog by any means.
  12. You're right mate, this is what he messaged me. Best thing to do is get a fast fast f***ing fastest meanest lamp bitch then put it to a pure saluki dog easy same as Kim sniper tillys bitch all out of lamp bitches because there hard and fast to pure breed your own pal don’t buy in to theses internet dogs shit they are
  13. Yes I suppose but still, a saluki at top speed is still going some, they aren't slow by any stretch of the imagination.
  14. He told me if these next pups he has don't turn out he's going to do that again. He was sending me voice clips, if you heard them you'd be pissing yourself. No disrespect to the man, he sounds like some of my mates who are just like him, bet he's a laugh to have a walk out with. "You need to find the most meanest and fastest lamping bitch you can find, a proper machine. Something off it's fcuking rocker that will run in to a fence post at 50mph and not feel a thing." Absolute quality mate. ?
  15. Really, even compared to something like a 3/4 collie or bull greyhound? You'd think that being pure sighthound they would hold their own against a 3/4 on the smaller fields.
  16. No bullshit lads, I'm not saying he's been a great breeder but he's had some great dogs no doubt. I know many think he's mad as a box of frogs but the owner of Lucky told me to breed my own pups by finding the fastest and meanest lamping bitch I can find and put a pure over it. I was pissing myself listening to him like, seems a character alright.
  17. I suppose the best bet would be to put a fast coursing bred in to a line if it was starting to lose a bit of speed rather than having to go back to pure greyhound.
  18. I've been on the verge of trying a pure tbh, I mean surely a pure sighthound should be just as quick as a 3/4 bull or collie greyhound. ? The last capable dog had on hares was my 3/4 collie x greyhound, would love to see how a pure compares on the local fields I used to run.
  19. You are more in to breeding these dogs than many on here, have you or do you know of any lads ever going back to greyhound before going back in to saluki or another coursing type after things have started getting stale?
  20. I know what you're saying but you don't think that added speed can give coursing types a kick up the backside? Didn't Lucky have greyhound not far back in his pedigree, I'm sure other good dogs have too? It's the same with dogs like Seagull, didn't it have Bedlington in the line? You don't think it had a bearing on how they turned out, maybe it was just a case of good dog men line breeding the best hare killers and the results would have been the same had they just used pure saluki.
  21. That's the theory but folk claim the saluki has been perfected after being bred for thousands of years to catch quarry, why would you cross inferior dogs like Bedlington, greyhound, etc to try and improve on perfection? Maybe these breeds brought more to the coursing bred types than people realise or maybe it was a case of these dogs became the ultimate hare dogs despite these other breeds.
