In his 40's, not exactly sure if it was Bosnia or Kosovo tbh.
-
Fella who works at our place is as mad as a box of frogs and many put it down to being in the army. Whilst we are working he's often wandering about the site talking to himself. He's served in Afghanistan and says he saw young lad who he used to babysit get blown to bits but claims the things he saw in Bosnia really fcuked his head up.
-
Yep, so you have a dog down from his line? I'm sure the lad who started this thread would be happy for you to give him a pointer. ?
-
You are showing your naivety, so you didn't know the dog or any of it's line so how can you know if any dogs are off proven workers. That's not just Pye dogs, that goes for any dogs. Let's keep arguing over bollocks if you like. ?
-
You clearly have expertise in these line of dogs. Maybe you could point him in the direction of any proven stud dogs or females that are soon to be bred. What's some of the stand out dogs down from Pye in your opinion?

Bit of a confusion, Blackmag worded it like he said the dog wasn't a producer. I'm not knocking the dog, how could I when I never seen it. I just can't understand folk chasing the name of a dog that's a good 30 year or whatever old.
-
I couldn't say, I've never seen the dog or had one down from it.
-
So it wasn't much of a producer, don't see what all the fuss is about then? Like I said, ten a penny for it's day and age. If you don't think other dogs could do what's asked of them single handed then you're wrong mate. ?
-
You can't change genetics mate, you could throw a jack rabbit in front of some but it don't mean they will ever be fast does it. At the end of the day it's horses for courses, you don't breed or buy a first cross for hares.
-
That's it mate, when you're crossing bull crosses you should be able to have your cake and eat it. Meaning you should be able to find dogs fast enough and hard enough. I'm not going to say his dogs weren't fast enough to catch foxes cos they did but you know yourself they are not a gimme for units like those dogs. The Pye dog from the pics shown looks like it could run for a first cross, not sure what stuff it was made of but if it could take the stick then I'm sure it was a handy dog.

One of my uncles best mates bred his own dogs off a bulldog he bought in off a local gypsy who was a dog man. This was well before the Rhys dogs started to make a name for themselves in the area. The same can be said of his dogs, I hate people name throwing if they haven't seen them go themselves. I've lamped with Rhys and seen a few of his well known dogs do the business but horses for courses, they aren't running machines despite being killing machines but if a dog with that kinda power isn't good for killing then they need nocking over the head IMO.
-
That's what I'm getting at, many dogs, half crosses of that era could do the business on teeth. If the dog was a good producer and that's where it made it's name then props to the animal.
-
Unless you've seen the dog go yourself i find it strange when folk jump on a bandwagon. What dogs were behind it if it was a half cross? I take it he was a good producer? Not one to be rude but looks ten a penny for a 80's, 90's bull cross.

Beautiful, living your best lives.

Nice picture of you and the family mate, memories....

So how often does a dog get killed when it's got a chest plate on, what percentages are we dealing with here? Cos let's face it, they are designed to stop a hog going through a bleeder and killing the dog in short order. And yes I've given an example of Danes being used, go check up on that Cali Catcher fella, he even uses pures as catch dogs, are you claiming that they will be deep game dogs? AB's are excellent catch dogs but they couldn't hold a candle to an APBT for gameness. And again before you get on your high horse I said dogs that excel at the game need to have a lot of

It wouldn't be much of a fight soy boy, I'd knock you as far back as your bullies breeders rent book..... ?
-
I've said I've never hunter pigs, i take it you've payed for a boar hunt in Europe? If I'm wrong what's your experience of hunting pigs with catch dogs? It's only like a big deer butting a dog against a wall or a motor. Like we both agreed, many of those pig dogs would jack over here given the right stick. For me there's levels, that's why you wouldn't see pure Danes or what not around a hole or wherever. The conversation will just get silly so let's leave it at that mate.
-
I'm from up North in the UK, have I feck mate. I'm going off what I've seen and read with my own eyes, fcuk me you've got lads on here who have claimed to hunt them and say they don't take much doing. ? I don't agree with that like but I'll say it again, it doesn't take a deep game dog to be a pig catcher IMO. Again, it's just bickering over a definition now.
-
Jesus mate, you're bringing up accidents as your argument. That's not exactly the same as the hog giving the dog stick like we are talking about. It's like saying a lurcher that drops dead coursing is a dead game animal. Neither would I call a deer dog that gets crushed to death dead game. We are now just arguing about definitions here
-
And who's mentioning Aussie dogs, I'm not talking about those Bull Arabs, I've seen folk using pure Danes in the States, that Calli Catcher has used them.
-
They can be big and powerful, it doesn't make them game.
-
But to many others they wouldn't, why do you think many APBT catch dogs aren't off game stock? Like I said I'm not knocking pig dogs but it doesn't a real game dog to be a pig catcher. If that was the case you wouldn't have Great Danes being capable of the feat.
-
Did you actually read what I said? Looks like you clearly didn't. So tell me this, you don't think you could get any Dane to jack over here? ?
-
That's exactly my point, when dogs get killed by a pig it's usually over pretty quick when a pig splits open a bleeder, the dog dies before it knows what day it is. That's not to say they can't get knocked up and gather damage throughout the years working pigs. Who mentioned foxes and 90lb dogs pal, I was talking about working terriers, many dogs that tackle pigs would jack from the stick a terrier will take working under ground. Let's not forget much lesser breeds than the APBT have been used as catch dogs, hell I've seen clips of Great Danes being used as catch dogs, would you
