potstillgold i like you & i think Alanos are good looking dogs. but we still haven't been able to make a GOOD catchdog out of the Alanos that have been tried in the states. to be fair most Alanos here are owned and bred by people that would lose their mind if you wanted to catch hogs with them. and Dogoman's dogos have been hunted for over 24 hours staight on occassion, free running and followed on horseback. 8-12 hours a day for a week is not uncommon either. be careful about being breedblind and making grandiose statements. they have a way of biting you in the butt. the first time i t

Coyote the desire to fight and hold is soo ingrained in bull & terriers that out of 3-4 pet bulls from the pound at least one will make a fair catchdog and you might get one or two helpers to hold you over until you get a good catchdog raised up. also 1st crosses have a way of unlocking the genes that crap breeders are shutting down so a labXboxer or dalmationXbullmastiff from the pound has as good a chance or better. most such dogs are free to good home & in the pound because the owner (who probably shouldn't own a goldfish) can't handle the dog and the dog is running the house. ther

alot of BS about. a good AB is as good a catchdog as a good dogo. not all dogos will track. in the USA they have been used extensively as catchdogs. the nose has been neglected. the AB has never been bred for nose. if you just need a catchdog pits are cheap and common. means easy to replace WHEN they get killed. if you need a dog to find and catch then a dogo is the best choice of purebred but you have to either import from a good hunting breeder in argentina or really look hard at the american breeders as none are really trying to preserve the nose in the breed. a more likely option is to fin

not saying it bothers him, just saying if the coat is supposed to help at their job then shouldn't it be wired insted of soft and fluffy? in which case the show crowd is exaggerating a trait that has nothing to do w/ the work like color or eye color.

very few states will allow you to shot your own dog for rabies anyway. i keep my dogs up to date on shots better doing it myself.

they out breed and out eat the native reds i immagine. gents prebait your area w an ear of dried corn (maize), then when you go to the area throw down another ear. also they are very active & not wary in late JAN & FEB when breeding males chasing each other in territory disputes. here in the USA we have a type of terrier developed just for hunting squirrels, raccoon & other animals that hide in trees. they are called feists. if the squirrel isn't on the ground they will trail them to the right tree and if it runs throught the tops will follow by sight until it stops running. w

doubtful. the show crowd always exaggerates traits that have nothing to do w/ the dog's working ability. look at airedales we have working airdedales in the USA thatwould be disqualified in the show ring because they only have the rough coat on the face and legs. we even have some that are slick coated, still a good hard coat but slick.

bill88 I can't say how fast he was actually running but the speedometer on my truck ranged from 25-30 during theses runs and he stayed withing 50M of the truck. the run was 6 miles out and 6 miles back. in the summer(high humidity and over 90), if he wasn't feeling well from the heat he'd drop into a puddle to cool off. i'd wait for him to be ready again and off we'd go. obviously he had to build up to this as he grew. as a pup he ran and played. i started running him w/ me when he hit 9 months. at first just a couple miles until we got to doing 5-7 3 days a week plus an 8-12 on the weekend

the red dog in the pic (red leopard catahoula over american bulldog) was in that condition year round. i kept him that way by roading him 3X a week. i'd go out in the truck and let him chase it at 25-30 MPH for 12 miles on dirt roads. i'd also take him out after game at every opportunity. he only ever got fat when the Marines sent me somewhere longer than a month and the wife fed him nasty kibble. i fed him raw (road kill deer was his favorite). he could run w/ scenthounds for miles chasing bear and was a cracker of a running catchdog on boar. no creatine, no roids or any other gay crap.

whin Texas blows for public land it might have a total of 1 million acres but access or activities are restricted. most of my extended family lives there. if you're in the panhandle area you got the national grasslands (good running area) and there is the grassland down near dallas after that it's hard to find big stretches of public land in TX. west of TX is much better lots of BLM land in the western states. by comparison North Carolina (where the Marines have me living) is about 1/4 the size of TX and has slightly more public land over half of it open year round. unless you have money or

I'm gonna talk to the missus tonight. If gyp's knocked up, i'd like to get a pup or two to put on hogs and anything else we can catch here. i think they'd shine for spotlighting (lamping) hogs in crops. my salXgrey is fast enough but he doesn't anchor them well. they toss him around pretty easy it'd be nice to give him some help

Osage the cold steel assegai & boar spear are produced in the states (however their machetes are made in south africa). but they are definitely NOT even close to being as pretty as yours. i guess it was kind of like asking why order a Holland & Holland double when you can get a nice Remington 700 right here. the Remington will kill them just as dead but w/o the class and elegance. i can't remember the last time i was accused of having too much class and elegance. i'm not saying it hasn't happend (it might have), i'm just saying i don't remember it.
